Knock of Your Heart

“I whisper your name like a prayer – with all the hope of heaven.

I trace the lines of your palm and draw a map to salvation.

I hear the knock of your heart and I answer it like my calling.”

“So we’re good to go?”

The childish, cheery voice boomed inside the classroom as he stepped in with another male around his height, walking cheerfully to the one person left in the classroom that was packed his stuffs.

Before he could answer, a deep, calm voice answered, “No, Chanyeol stays. He has tutor in ten minutes. I heard earlier in the morning they arranged another love meeting in her club room.”

The person that owned the name Chanyeol, or Park Chanyeol in full name, turned his head at his short friend, he never said it out loud or else he would experience near-death headlock, narrowed his eyes in dismay and clicked his tongue. As he expected, two of his other friends started to laugh at him.

“OH MY GOD PARK CHANYEOL,” The cheerful voice owner, Byun Baekhyun, with his light sunshine hair, cheerful voice, and teasing expression, looked up so he could see his best friend’s expression. As anticipated, he turned bright red. “Is it still going? , either she can’t get the picture or you’re ing slow.”

“I’m not slow!” Chanyeol disagreed, annoyed because Baekhyun definitely made fun of him.

“You are, kind of actually.” Another best friend that answered for him, Do Kyungsoo, with his military-cut, dark hair, calm but actually deathly, beamed at him proudly. “If anything, I might say this is the longest Chanyeol ever has a crush on someone.”

“My, my…” Baekhyun shook his head and wiped the imaginary tears to dramatize his laugh. “Are you sure you’re not the Jack of all trades? What happened with perfect scores you reached all these times? Is she still not asking you about it? Like you are the only participant for English Olympiad from our school, yet you fail in your senior year, isn’t she curious?”

Chanyeol just made a face. “She doesn’t ask a lot of questions.”

“Of course, of course.” Baekhyun then turned to Kyungsoo, before he could say a word to tease his best friend more, a head popped in. A head of certain someone that three of them knew so well; that got Baekhyun pressed his lips into a thin line and faked a cough, Kyungsoo suddenly became friendly as he waved at him, and the tallest between three suddenly went flustered.

“Chanyeol—oh hey boys!” she greeted them and waved back at Kyungsoo, “Chanyeol, I need to do something first with Jongdae, but don’t worry the doors are widely open to welcome you. I told my members that I’d be teaching you this afternoon so they leave it empty, so you won’t be disturbed. You can wait me there alright?” she beamed and walked off.

Baekhyun clicked his tongue. “You’d better start making a move man,” he shook his head. “If I heard right, you’re not the only one trying to win someone’s heart.”

il_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpgil_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpgil_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpg

It was all started on the second year.

Park Chanyeol was alone that year, separated with his best friends in that classroom. He looked around as he knew none and clicked his tongue because even though he’s good at socializing, he hated the fact that he needed time to adapt all over again. If at least he classed with one of his best friends, he would have someone that understood his sense of humor.

Park Chanyeol was well-known as Jack of all trades in their school; for being teacher’s pet, school favorite as he befriended people in every circle, and known for his polite, kind smile that made some girls confused by his attitudes. His scores were always flawless, perfect in all terms.

Until he met this certain person, a female, Jung Eunji was her name, that failed in almost every class reserved, but never at English. Since they were classmates, Chanyeol was assigned for few times to give free tutors for Eunji. Not that he complained, he enjoyed it well because Eunji was easy to be with. She was fun, had a melodious kind of laughter, understood his sense of humor, and unlike other girls she didn’t have ulterior motives at failing classes. Quoting her, “I’m simply an airhead dude, so be patient. But at least, at least I’m great with English…, and literatures when we’re at it!”

The way she sounded so full-spirited on mentioning English got Chanyeol wondering. And from wondering, it grew to something inevitable. Chanyeol falls for her.

But Eunji seemed to be very busy with her social life that he failed for so many times to ask her out. She had many friends, admirers too, that Chanyeol couldn’t help but feel like losing. Rumor has it; Eunji was into this certain school solo singer from choir, Kim Jongdae. He saw her talking to him severally and it irked him so much because how easy Eunji tapped on his shoulder and laughed on whatever he said, Chanyeol bet he wasn’t even that funny. So then he realized that he had to do something, and by something, he did the most fatal sin he ever committed; he failed in English, which he knew Jung Eunji was great at.

The teacher wondered why once, because again Chanyeol was the participant of English Olympiad from their school, and he said that it was because he didn’t like the subject, he studied them because of curiosity and nowadays he felt English was tougher than a four-paged Math questions. The teacher was willing to make Chanyeol enter S University next year, so ever since he assigned the most outstanding student in English to tutor him.

This year Park Chanyeol was a senior; it meant he spent almost a year trying to make Eunji notice and fall for him. Byun Baekhyun was right – he needed to start making his move.

il_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpgil_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpgil_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpg

When Jung Eunji entered the room, Chanyeol sensed a different atmosphere came out from the girl. He looked up and found a pair of swollen eyes with her reddened nose. Chanyeol pretended that he saw nothing, waited until Eunji took a seat next to him and sighed tiredly.

When he looked up, trying to send her a questioning glance, Eunji wiped her face. Chanyeol couldn’t help but raised his hand, touching her face for good three seconds before he realized what he did and pulled away. “I—I’m sorry!” Chanyeol freaked and his mind cursed at his stupidity. “ I’m sorry…, no I mean, good Lord, I don’t mean to curse, it just happens…, I’m sorry… sorry.”

Eunji just let out a tired smile and shook her head. “No it’s okay,” She took over her books and let Chanyeol just watched, so she tilted her head and found Chanyeol was looking so worriedly for her. “I’m fine Chanyeol, stop looking at me like that…”

Chanyeol just kept on staring, “No you’re not.”

“You’re right; I’m not. But I will be, I know I will be.” Eunji tried her best to smile but it only made everything more saddening. “So what were you doing when I’m gone?”

“Why were you crying?” Chanyeol still refused to let go of the topic, he was persistent and it was annoying for some people, but he needed to know.

It seemed like Eunji knew that lying and avoiding would only make Chanyeol more curious, and by curious meant he wouldn’t stop asking, so Eunji sighed and surrendered, “I like this person so much…, so much that it clouded my visions. He’s kind, nice, friendly, and good-looking too…, he’s been so nice to me lately that I thought, I just thought that he might like me.”

It was all the same story like Chanyeol, so the young male let out a bitter smile. “But he doesn’t like you…,” he meant his mumble to be just a random talk but then he saw Eunji nodding her head.

“And the dumber of me, I asked him out for Prom. Because my friends said it’s better now than too late.” Eunji looked at Chanyeol and he found hurt in her eyes, “He refused of course, says that he already has a date. Stupid, stupid Eunji.”

Eunji hit her head on the table after that, but then she got the feeling that her head hit something softer. So she opened her eyes and found it was Chanyeol’s palm that she’s been hitting. She realized she’s been stupid and sighed.

Chanyeol closed the books and then tidied them before he stuck out his hand. “Let’s go.”

“Sorry young man but we have tutoring to finish.” Eunji said but Chanyeol still had his hand outstretched. After few seconds of thoughtful thinking, Eunji reached his hand and wondered, “What are we going to do?”

“Getting a chocolate ice cream; it’s good for heartbreak.” Chanyeol replied and walked off of the room, with Eunji walking beside him.

He knew he should start making his moves on Eunji, but it could be postponed. Right now he had more important issues to deal with; to make the smile of his crush returned.

Chanyeol almost ripped every Prom flyer he received from school committee but then Baekhyun said if he did then he tried to make the Earth more ill than it already is, so Chanyeol just kindly put it away on the trashcan he saw near.

Prom is getting near but he was desperate because he couldn’t get Eunji to talk about it. It seemed like after Jongdae-thing, Eunji didn’t want to talk about it because Kyungsoo reported that she already rejected three male students that tried to ask her out.

“Maybe she’s waiting for the right one.” Kyungsoo said meaningfully as he glanced at Chanyeol, the giant just laid his head against the table and doodled broken hearts with his marker on the flyer Baekhyun found and refused to throw away. “Maybe she’s waiting for you to ask her dude!”

“No way…,” Baekhyun scoffed. “If her taste was someone like Kim Jongdae, then why would she settle for less—OUCH YOU DO KYUNGSOO.” Baekhyun hissed in pain because Kyungsoo definitely did something violent toward his body.

Chanyeol frowned at the possibility and doodled more broken hearts on the Prom flyers.

“Now or never Chanyeol, it’s now or never.” Chanyeol encouraged himself as he repeated the words as he reached for Eunji, that was laughing about something that must be very hilarious that she shed tears from the corner of her eyes. Someone nudged her and made her turned her head, so she spotted Chanyeol was reaching for her as she slapped lightly on her friend before stepped closer to meet him.

“Hi.” Eunji greeted warmly, she always this power where she could just warm up anyone’s ice cold demeanor with her beam. “What’s up? Is there any English essay you need me to review?” Eunji asked half jokingly as she noticed Chanyeol’s ears were burnt red. “Are you okay?” she asked wonderingly as she stepped closer.

“FINE—SUPER.” Chanyeol yelled for being a nervous er as Eunji was about to reach his forehead. “I’m here…, for something else actually.” Chanyeol gulped and tried his best to look at Eunji. When he did it, his heart raced twice faster. “I…, um…, have something to ask.”

“Oh.” Eunji raised her brows expectantly that somehow made him hope. “What is it?”

“Um…, I’m wondering if you want to… Um, you know…” Cat got his tongue and Chanyeol cursed himself for being such a , while Jung Eunji waited patiently for him to finish.

“I want to what Chanyeol?” Eunji tried her best to encourage him to finish, even though it seemed like Eunji already knew what he hinted.

“You know…, proooo--buurrpppp.” Chanyeol burped so ing suddenly that both of them widened their eyes in surprise; Eunji, because she definitely didn’t expect it coming, and Chanyeol, because HOW COULD SOMEONE BURP IN FRONT OF HIS CRUSH!

But instead walking away, Eunji burst into laughter, a loud one that made Chanyeol felt that he fell for the right person. She had those rosy cheeks for laughing too hard, that made Chanyeol wanted to caress them lovingly.

“. I’m so sorry, super sorry. myself. .” Chanyeol repeatedly cursed himself and helplessly ran a hand to his hair. He would be the one and only man that burped in front of his crush because being so nervous. “I’m sorry Eunji, so sorry. I didn’t mean to do it in front of you. I just am very nervous right now and I can’t think straight because my heart is beautinf too fast like it’s not supposed to be like that—”

“Chanyeol you’re rambling.” Eunji stopped him as she nudged his lower arm.

“Right, right. Sorry. So what I’m trying to ask you before the burping and rambling is; Jung Eunji, would you like to go to Prom, with me?” Chanyeol said everything in one breath that thankfully Eunji could understand what he was saying.

He saw her reaction, stunned but also surprised. Chanyeol realized that he might be making big mistake because Eunji now had this facial expression of considering his question. And he didn’t like it. He didn’t like to be nervous. He didn’t like feeling this thing because he recalled Baekhyun’s words days ago that why would Eunji settle for less, when she liked Kim ing Jongdae?

Right before Eunji answered, he quickly added, “As friends.”

Eunji blinked confusedly.

“We can go to Prom together you know, as friends.” He emphasized and nodded his head. Friends, he could do better than that later at Prom if Eunji agreed on going.

But then Eunji frowned, she heaved a sigh before she spoke up. “Oh right, of course. As friends. What am I even expecting.” She mumbled inaudibly before she shook her head, “I’m sorry Chanyeol…, but I don’t think I’m going to Prom. After Jongdae-thing, I think I prefer to stay at home and do Harry Potter marathon with my parents. And even if I’m going, I haven’t prepared, so yeah, I’ll be staying at home.”

Chanyeol felt his world was falling apart, he didn’t even listen to Eunji’s excuse. As soon as she shook her head, he knew he would be rejected. So he just nodded and let his mind took over as Chanyeol went auto-pilot mode. He walked away, even though he heard Eunji called for his name, he just walked, kept on walking, until he bumped into his best friends that were waiting for him by his locker.

A man shouldn’t cry, he read that sentence somewhere sometime ago. So he tried not to cry as he kept on walking, not even bothered to stop and tell his best friends about the results. Baekhyun sighed as he took Chanyeol’s backpack and rushed toward him because he was afraid Chanyeol might kill himself by traffic lights, where Kyungsoo clicked on his tongue, realizing that Chanyeol was really serious about this crush-prom thing.

He needed to do something to save his best friend’s pride.

“Chanyeol hi.” Eunji greeted her one day in the hall on break time. The taller looked over his locker and broke into smile because seriously, Eunji looked so beautiful this morning. Was it because of her usual smile or was it because her new perfume? Or was it because she would look so perfect if she agreed on going to Prom with him instead refused him?

“Oh Eunji hi,” he returned the greetings before he placed his books inside. “What’s up?”

Eunji was hesitant for a moment before she braced herself to ask. “I heard from Kyungsoo…,”

“Yeah?” Chanyeol waited. What and how did Kyungsoo could talk with Eunji? He never knew Kyungsoo and Eunji were close.

“So you’re going to Prom I heard!” Eunji clapped her hands so suddenly that it got Chanyeol surprised. “Kyungsoo told me who you’re going with, and I can really tell you that she’s beautiful.”

Just say yes, Kyungsoo told him the other day. So Chanyeol blinked and somehow silently prayed that whatever Kyungsoo said, it didn’t mean any harm. So he nodded and let out a small smile. “Yeah, she is.”

Eunji was taken aback, in fact, that it surprised Chanyeol. But before he could say another word just to wonder whether she’s going after all or not, Eunji stepped back and walked off, leaving without even saying goodbye.

Chanyeol’s shoulders slumped as he realized that he might lose the chance to get Eunji as his date for Prom.

il_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpgil_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpgil_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpg

“Noona I’m going to die.” Chanyeol followed his older sister’s step toward the kitchen with the saddest frown he could wear. His life was falling apart. These two days after Eunji confronted him about the Prom date, she seemed to be avoiding him. This was hard, too hard that Chanyeol couldn’t believe what was happening to him.

“You can’t, who would help me changing the lights if it went off?” His older sister, Park Yura, replied rather carelessly and somehow that made Chanyeol annoyed. “Oh by the way, I found this on my way.” Yura raked her paper bag and took out a glass box of beautiful white roses’ corsage, and pushed it toward Chanyeol’s hold. “I remember you’re going to Prom tomorrow right? Is your suit ready? I can iron it for you tonight, if you want.” Yura looked up to her brother and caressed his head lovingly. “Aigoo my baby brother is going to Prom tomorrow!”

This made Chanyeol frowned as he pushed the box away. “Noona I don’t even have a date to Prom!” he yelled. “She refused when I asked her. And I don’t have backup plans because I really, really want her! I’ve liked her for almost a year but she wouldn’t like me because who am I really? But then someone broke her heart and I thought hey this might be a great chance to ask her! So I asked, but she refused me. Then she misunderstood and thought I’d be going with someone else! Do you see noona? I’m miserable! I can’t go to Prom!”

Yura saw the way her brother seemed desperate before she chuckled helplessly. “Baby bro, then go make things right. Tomorrow at Prom, if she comes, ask her out for real. Ask her not only to be your Prom date, but also as your girlfriend.”

“She said she won’t be going.” Chanyeol was frustrated.

“Why wouldn’t she? It’s her last year to come to something like Prom. Why would she overlook the chance of having the best night ever?” Yura tried to cheer her brother. “I think she would come tomorrow.”

Chanyeol helped his sister placing the stuffs inside the refrigerator, but a small doubt was aching in his heart. “But what if she doesn’t come tomorrow noona?”

Yura shrugged. “Barge in to her house and force her to come, tell her you only want her to be your Prom date because you can’t see anyone else takes her place. I don’t know, I either haven’t been to Prom or invited to come. Dramatize kiddo, that’s what women love.”

il_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpgil_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpgil_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpg

The Day

Chanyeol arrived at school gym along with Baekhyun and Kyungsoo. They decided to ditch their dates as a favor since the tallest were alone. Baekhyun looked fine with his light blue suit, just like Kyungsoo with his usual black tuxedo. Chanyeol was forced to put on his grey suit, the best one he had from others, and did his hair by his one and only older sister. He was forced as well to bring the corsage, in case he met his crush.

Everyone looked the nicest there; with their suits and dresses and hairdos, smelled very nice as well. Some of them already got drunk even though it’s been only nine pm, some of them already engaged in make-out sessions, and the sober ones were dancing to the music.

Kyungsoo and Baekhyun looked around, to help Chanyeol finding Jung Eunji, but nil. Eunji wasn’t anywhere around to be seen. Kyungsoo then forced Baekhyun to use his friendly charms by asking her friends, even though Baekhyun refused he surrendered finally as Kyungsoo threatened his life.

Baekhyun came sometime later and shook his head to confirm Chanyeol’s guess; Eunji wasn’t coming after all. “I asked her friends and they said Eunji didn’t want to come because she was feeling unwell—but I call it bull because we all know the reason why.” as Baekhyun raised his chin to the front door where everyone was coming, and both of his dumb friends followed.

Coming from the door, looking super fine with his dark suit and his hair pushed back, Kim Jongdae was arm to arm with the school powerful female soloist, Park Sunyoung.

“Wow.” Kyungsoo watched them walking pass them and shook his head. “Kim Jongdae and his majestic taste, of course.” He made a mocking face before he turned to see Chanyeol that still followed the couple that seemingly would win Prom King and Prom Queen tonight. “So what are you going to do Park?” Kyungsoo wondered and Chanyeol looked down to both of his best friends.

“What can I do anyway?” Chanyeol wondered with a frown, still couldn’t believe that Kim Jongdae would choose that girl instead of his crush. What was wrong about his crush? She’s beautiful, kind, nice and also—

“Before you think too much and ended up killing Kim Jongdae in your mind, why don’t you just do what your sister suggested? She was right though; girls love drama. Why do you think Korean dramas last so long until today? Because girls enjoy dramatic scenes,” Baekhyun explained before he wrote something on his phone. “There. I asked her friends Eunji’s address and one of them was nice enough to tell me where it is. So go, go and dramatize. Go and confess your feelings.”

Kyungsoo nodded. “Agreed. Baekhyun is right anyway; the more you keep it for yourself, the more Eunji would be thinking you don’t have feelings for her. Just go, the magic lasts only until before midnight.”

Baekhyun laughed at Kyungsoo’s lame attempt to quote, so did Chanyeol. But then he nodded his head before bolted out of the gym and took out his phone as he checked Baekhyun’s message which he sent the address of Eunji.

He ran to the nearest bus shelter because his best friends were right; the magic lasts only until before midnight. And Chanyeol already made up his mind that he would use the magic well to make Eunji his tonight.

il_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpgil_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpgil_570xN.1184730166_s6i8.jpg

As he arrived to the place, Chanyeol was torn between going home and pressing the bell. But then he decided to surrender to fate as he pressed the bell and prayed that it would be Eunji opening the door for him.

But it wasn’t.

It was a middle-aged man, almost alike to Eunji with his small nose and small eyes, looking t him definitely puzzled because he didn’t expect a visitor late at night wearing nice suit and sweaty like hell.

“Hi, my name is Park Chanyeol; I’m eighteen, a senior and a classmate of your very beautiful daughter. Oh that came out wrong. No, your daughter is beautiful that is true but I don’t mean to sound racy or anything. Sir, I’m really, really sorry for intruding whatever your occasion is at this hour. But please, I beg of you, may I see Eunji for a moment? I have something to say and I might go crazy if I hold back these words I’ve been kept for almost a year. You see Sir, I think I’m—”

“—Chanyeol?”

Chanyeol stopped blabbering and looked over behind the man that he believed to be Jung dad. He looked amused with Chanyeol’s blabber as he turned his head to see his daughter with a smile, as Eunji stepped closer to the front door with confused frown. Of course, why wouldn’t she, when he came all the way from school with tuxedo, gasping for breath, looked so stupid after her sister did his hair for two hours.

“What are you doing here?” Eunji still seemed so flabbergasted with the fact that Park Chanyeol was standing, lean and tall, towering both her and her father. “And were you running? What happened? Is something wrong?”

Jung dad finally let go of the door as Eunji took over. He chuckled before mumbled, “Young love…, so cute.” He shook his head and walked away, it of course went heard by the youngsters, but thankfully Eunji didn’t say a word because she was too immersed with the way Chanyeol was soaked wet with sweats.

“Do you want to come in?” Eunji finally offered after weird silence between them, Eunji felt so bad for the nice tuxedo he’s wearing because he looked so handsome like a model, while she looked hilariously dreadful with pajama pants and oversized shirt that belonged to her dad.

Chanyeol shook his head, still in silence before he made up his mind. Eunji waited until he said anything, Eunji hoped for anything but “I like you.” He confessed, voice faltered and it almost sounded like a whisper if Eunji didn’t notice well. “I like you.” He repeated louder.

Eunji widened her eyes as she realized what was happening.

“I like you Jung Eunji, so much that I can’t help myself from running from school to here as I realized you really weren’t coming for Prom. I like you so much that I wanted to break that Jongdae’s nose—but thanking him after for rejecting you because hey, I have a chance to confess now because of him as well—sorry I blabber when I’m nervous…” Chanyeol seemed so unfocused that it almost seemed funny.

“Are you?” Eunji raised her eyebrows.

“What?” Chanyeol was puzzled.

“Nervous,” Eunji tried and she could already see the answer by the way he looked away as he realized Eunji hasn’t taken her eyes off of him.

He slowly nodded. “Very much,” he said in hushed tone. He heaved a sigh before continued, now slower. “I like you, so much that I hold back myself to pick the right moment to confess. I really thought it was just a crush, it would fade, but it didn’t. I just got curious more about you…, that it resulted me doing a very big terrible lie.” Chanyeol couldn’t believe in himself for admitting what he’s done in front of her crush.

“Pretending you failed in English…,” Eunji answered for him and Chanyeol looked up. “Of course I know, I’m not dumb. You were the only participant of English Olympiad from our school. I applied for that as well but I came as second place, of course I know.”

Chanyeol gaped as she chuckled.

“You amazingly did well for every subject, so how would you suddenly fail in English? For awhile I really believed that you might be bored with English or hated the teacher and decided to ignore that subject, but then I overheard your conversation with your friends…,” Eunji leaned her back against the door. “But you didn’t say anything after that…, so I thought I was just making things up…”

Chanyeol shook his head. “You are not! Definitely not, making things up, I mean. I really like you Eunji, but you were miserable after Jongdae. So I thought it might not be the good time.” Chanyeol then raised his voice. “But you refused me when I asked you to come with me!”

“I was kind of hoping you’d ask me to come as your date silly, not just as friends.” Eunji sighed deeply. “Then I heard from Kyungsoo you went with Lee Hyeri, that pretty freshman.”

“But I didn’t go…, with her… Kyungsoo just lied to see how you reacted. And you remained calm when you asked me about it,” Chanyeol shrugged. “So I thought you didn’t care.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah,” Chanyeol nodded his head lightly. “So I went to Prom with Baekhyun and Kyungsoo, I made them ditched their dates. I thought you might come, I promised myself that I would ask you out, for real, if you came. But you didn’t. Baekhyun and Kyungsoo then forced me to do it before the day is over…, they say magic lasts only before midnight,” Chanyeol sighed frustratedly. “I really need a lineup change of friends. They’re impossible.”

“Don’t be, they’re kind. Take it as good way; they encouraged you to come here.” Eunji smiled and looked up to find Chanyeol was looking thoroughly at her.

Chanyeol took something from his jacket, a corsage of white roses. “My sister said it would be a waste, she thought I was joking when I said I wouldn’t come to Prom with a date, so she still bought it. So um,” Chanyeol checked his wrist watch. “I know this is almost eleven and I think Prom is almost over as well, but…,” he trailed off as he found Eunji was looking expectantly at him. “Would you like to be my Prom date, my girlfriend after that, and my wife hopefully if you’re not sick of me?”

Eunji laughed, so loud that Chanyeol got confused of what was funny. He almost got offended before she looked at him and nodded heartily. “Gosh that’s so cheesy but yeah I would. I would be your one-hour Prom date, your girlfriend after that, and hopefully I won’t be sick of you so I could be your wife.”

Chanyeol beamed, widely that Baekhyun always said his smile could scare off anyone, but Eunji didn’t back out so it meant only good things, and then he raised the corsage and mumbled, “May I?”

Eunji raised her right hand and let Chanyeol put on the corsage. She could see his hands were trembling, he’s nervous, so is she – but only in good way. With Chanyeol, everything seemed to be good.

Right after they shared silence and flustered looks, also flushed cheeks on both cheeks because they didn’t know what else to do. Then it seemed to be perfect timing because Jung dad made his appearance with a certain mocking smile before he said, “So we paused the movie for you kiddo, but it seems we can’t wait anymore because your mom says she’ll be sleeping if she waits for any second. So…, would you like to come back and finish the movie?”

Eunji then suddenly realized what she’s been doing, so she made a face at her father before he turned and walked away. Eunji looked at Chanyeol and that young man seemingly wanted to excuse himself to leave. No, Eunji doesn’t want to him leave just yet.

Jung dad halted and turned his body again at the young couple. “And you big guy.” Chanyeol looked up as he realized there was no one else but him that sized big enough so he could call that. “Who is your favorite from Harry Potter series and why?”

Being given a sudden pop quiz got Chanyeol perplexed but thankfully not for too long. He made up his mind and answered, “Sirius Black, because his Animagus is a dog and I love dogs. And um, he is a very cool godfather. I like that kind of character; like an onion. You need to peel to understand what he really is.” Chanyeol shrugged lightly, silently hoping his answer would satisfy the older man.

Jung dad took a moment before he let out an approving smile. “Mine is Lupin. Good answer, bring him in Eunji. He could be a fun addition to distract your mother. You know how much curious she is with your love life.”

“Dad,” Eunji hissed but her father just waved his hand. She turned and apologized for her father, before asked Chanyeol to come in. “Come on, you need to change your clothes. I think my dad has spare but it won’t fit perfectly though, hope you don’t mind.”

Chanyeol stepped in to the house and waited for Eunji to lock the door. Before she led the way, Chanyeol stopped her and asked. “May I kiss you?”

Eunji flushed pink, but it lasted short because then she nodded her head.

Right when Chanyeol was about to swoop in, a head popped in and shook his head. “Na-ah kiddo. Not in my house, not when I’m around.”

Chanyeol pulled away as quick as possible and Eunji glared at her father dismissively, while the oldest just chuckled and asked Eunji to walk first so Chanyeol was left behind.

Right when Chanyeol stood beside him, Jung dad tapped him lightly on his lower arm and said, “Tomorrow. Kiss her tomorrow. Now let’s go to my room where I can lend you my biggest shirt and pants…,”

Chanyeol nodded his head as he followed the older. When he looked at Eunji that was trying to wake her mother up, he smiled. Tomorrow, it sounded like a promise, so yeah tomorrow he definitely would kiss his girlfriend.

expectation; hiatus (stop thinking and trying to write like ing seriously Ren, you have essays to finish)

reality; managed both of essays and stories

hi everyone! it is kind of embarrassing actually when I finished an one-shot while I already promised myself to not do it. but maybe it is a passion of mine (or I might be just trying to sound reasonable) - but if there is anyone to blame, I would happily blame Chanyeol and Eunji for feeding me, a SUPER CHANJI SHIPPER, Instagram feeds that almost seemingly to hint each other (or maybe Ren is just being delusional).

anyway, may you enjoy this ChanJi one-shot! I really had fun writing about them - and what can I say, I'm a er for high school fluffs. please drop a comment about what you think, because I want to know, like very much!

see you soon! :)
