And I'm Here

Stuck In Love

"When you feel so lonely
(Have you completely erased me?)
I’ll be here to shelter you..."

______________________________

Sana stood staring at herself for a few minutes in the mirror, poking her own cheeks and pulling on her hair. This was all real—she looked exactly like Momo. How did this even happen? Sana’s first thought was a body switching spell...perhaps Mina or Jihyo decided to get back at her for the trouble she caused a few weeks ago. Perhaps Nayeon was even sabotaging her chances of winning the bet. But if this was a case of body switching, then why did she wake up in her own bed?

Sana thought of the past few days...how she’d started looking different and acting different. She’d developed more of an appetite and suddenly felt the need to be more active. Sitting still for too long was becoming intolerable for her. And it all started after she casted that spell to make her the one Dahyun was in love with…

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to ignore you. I’m just being impatient with her.”

“I think she only sees me as a friend.”

Sana recalled what Dahyun had said to her over the past few days. The younger girl was clearly not in love with her, even after the spell Sana cast. So...that could only mean one thing…

Dahyun was in love with Momo, and when Sana casted the spell to make herself the person Dahyun loved, the spell took that meaning quite literally.

“Damn it!” Sana cried out, pouting at herself in the mirror. Why did magic always have to take things so literally? What were the perks of being a witch when the spells Sana cast always backfired?

Sana wasn’t quite sure what to do. There was no way she could go to school looking like this. At least no one else in her apartment was home. She could take the time to try to find some sort of reversal spell. She walked back to her room, not bothering to change out of her pajamas, and began flipping through her spell book. But after reading a few pages, Sana got very bored and felt hopeless already.

She looked at her phone and an idea popped into her head. She’d gotten herself into this mess, so she might as well take advantage of it. She wanted to truly make sure Dahyun was in love with Momo, and there was only one way to find out. She’d take Dahyun out on a proper date as Momo. No harm, no foul, right? I mean, she really liked Dahyun and now Dahyun really liked her...well, the person she was now. It’d be fun for both of them! After all, this might be her only time to truly take Dahyun on a date. But after the date was over, she’d have to erase Dahyun’s memory of it, of course. It’d be messy if Dahyun confronted the real Momo about a date she never actually went on. Luckily there was a simple spell to erase specific memories, one that Sana had mastered months ago. There’d be no room for mistakes here.

Sana smiled at the thought. How would she go about taking Dahyun on this date though? She couldn’t text her because the contact would come up as “Sana” and she couldn’t take her car because...why would Momo be driving her car? She’d just have to show up after Dahyun got out of school and walk her somewhere. At least Uber was a thing now.

She’d have to pick out a proper outfit. Even though she didn’t know Momo well, she knew the girl looked good in pink and black and white. She looked through her closet for something that would blow Dahyun away. She tried on a few things before she found something that fit her new body well. She spun around, looking at herself in the mirror and giggling. She ended up going with a white blouse and a high-waisted black skirt—something safe and classic. She spent a while putting on makeup...admiring Momo’s natural beauty the entire time while feeling slightly embarrassed to make eye contact with herself in the mirror.

She’d been in a similar situation only once, when she’d accidentally body-switched with Tzuyu, and that didn’t even last long. She also didn’t get to look at herself in the mirror or play dress up. This was very weird. Although, it kind of made her curious as to what it’d be like to be all of her friends. She could imagine herself as Mina taking Chaeyoung on a date to a museum and pretending she actually understood the artist’s intention for each piece. She could imagine herself as Nayeon wooing Jeongyeon easily with her charm. Jihyo though...she wasn’t actually sure who Jihyo liked at the moment. She’d have to sit her down and demand answers soon. But she’d have fun bossing her friends around as Jihyo for sure.

Anyway, she still had some time to kill before Dahyun was out of school, so she sat back down and forced herself to pick up her spell book again. Why were reversal spells so hard to find, anyway? She’d have to take up a complaint with Irene at their next coven meeting.

Nayeon couldn’t focus in class. Her mind kept going back to what happened the night before with Mina. Her heart raced at the thought of it. Mina had texted her about grabbing lunch, and while Nayeon wanted to avoid the younger girl out of guilt and shame, she found herself replying to the message and saying she’d love to. With a clear head, maybe she could find the courage to tell Mina the truth and stop this now before things got any messier.

When Nayeon arrived in the dining hall, her stomach flipped when she saw Mina already seated at a table, looking at her phone. Mina looked up and made eye contact with Nayeon, smiling brightly and causing her eyes to turn into crescent moons. Nayeon sat down quickly with her salad and frappuccino. “About yesterday…” she began.

“Yes, about yesterday…” Mina replied, cheeks already burning.

“That was a mistake,” Nayeon blurted out, and Mina’s embarrassed smile immediately dropped from her face. She looked at Nayeon with wide, hurt eyes. “I took advantage of you...you were vulnerable and not in a good place. I should’ve told you to stop then and there. I’m sorry.”

Mina bit her lip and looked down at her plate of french fries. She pretended to expect one before dipping it in ketchup and chewing on it thoughtfully. “I wanted to do that though. You didn’t make me do anything.”

Guilt ripped through Nayeon again. Oh, this poor girl had no idea. “Mina...nothing can happen between us. We’re friends...and roommates…”

“I know,” Mina replied sadly. “But I really like you. I’m sorry for putting you in this position all of the sudden...but will you please hear me out? When you like someone, you’ll make things work, no matter what. I want things to work...between us...because you’ve been driving me crazy lately. I can’t focus on anything else but you,” Mina admitted, taking another bite of a french fry.

“But—”

“I want to kiss you again, and hold your hand, and go out to cheap restaurants with you, and sneak into double features at the movie theater...gosh, do you hear what I’m saying? I’ve lost my mind, but I can’t help it,” Mina smiled sadly. “I’ve never been so sure about anything in my life before. I want to be with you.”

Nayeon wanted to duck under the table and hide. Mina was so sincere with everything she was saying and her eyes were shining. Nayeon never had anyone say these things to her before, and it made her heart soar. It was nice, to feel wanted, even if it was all because of a love potion gone wrong. How could she break this girl’s heart?

She thought of Jeongyeon—frustratingly beautiful, always teasing her and never letting her live anything down. Nayeon really wanted to be with her. But here was Mina, radiating so much warmth and love that Nayeon could barely tell which way was up and which way was down anymore. Would Jeongyeon ever like her without a love potion? Would she ever stand a chance with her?

Maybe going out with Mina could actually be to her advantage. For starters, it could make Jeongyeon jealous. Or maybe Nayeon would actually prove to have lasting feelings for Mina. Either way, she benefitted from the situation.

There was Chaeyoung though—the innocent victim of all this. Her heart was probably shattered. Having Nayeon begin dating Mina would no doubt destroy the younger girl’s heart and sabotage their friendship. Okay, so maybe Nayeon didn’t have to date Mina...but she could at least hang out with her a lot. And make sure Jeongyeon knew about it.

“Let’s slow down a bit,” Nayeon suggested. “We have to think of Chaeyoung too. Can we just try hanging out for now? Just the two of us? We haven’t done something together in a while.”

At the sound of Chaeyoung’s name, Mina’s face instantly darkened. “You’re right, that’d be for the best. Maybe we could go out to dinner Friday night?” she suggested.

It was a date. Well, kind of.

“Dahyun-ie!” Sana chirped as soon as she spotted Dahyun walking with Tzuyu and Chaeyoung in the sea of students leaving the school.

Dahyun looked with wide eyes at the sound of Momo’s voice. The three girls walked up to Sana with smiles on their faces. “Hey Momo,” Chaeyoung responded coolly, “What brings you here?”

“I’d like to borrow Dahyun for a moment. Well, by a moment I mean for a few hours,” Sana responded cutely. Momo’s voice was so adorable.

“You want to borrow me?” Dahyun asked dumbly. “Well...I do have some work to do tonight…I wish you would’ve given me some notice...”

“She’s free, completely free,” Tzuyu assured, giving her friend a shove in Sana’s direction.

“Yay!” Sana sang, immediately taking Dahyun’s arm to which a strange sound erupted from the younger girl’s throat. “I’ll have her back to you guys in a few hours.”

“There’s no rush,” Chaeyoung smiled smugly, enjoying seeing the nervousness on Dahyun’s face. “Really, take your time. She’ll get her work done fine.”

Sana looked around to make sure no one was around, before she reached into her bag with her free arm and grabbed a pile of glitter. It was charmed to make someone forget the last few minutes. It didn’t have to be glitter, really anything could be charmed for the spell, she just wanted to be extra. Sana blew it in Chaeyoung and Tzuyu’s face’s and their eyes lit up in shock. They both stood for a moment, looking dazed. “Bye then!” Sana waved as she pulled Dahyun toward the front of the school where an uber could pick them up.

Dahyun looked back with an open mouth at her confused looking friends but let herself be pulled by Sana anyway. “Did you...just blow glitter in their faces?”

“I just love to make a dramatic exit,” Sana replied coolly. Dahyun meant to ask more questions but Sana quickly kept talking. “We’re gonna Uber to the park, is that alright?”

“Y-yeah,” Dahyun replied, looking back at her friends, who were still standing in the same spot looking like they were on a different planet. She turned back to face Sana with her brows knitted together. “What’s this all about Momo?”

It took Sana a second to respond to Momo’s name. She was so used to hearing her own that this was new and unusual for her. “Oh! Well I just figured we should hang out. Just the two of us! Would you like that?”

“Yeah,” Dahyun smiled, looking up at Sana warmly. “I’m just surprised is all...sometimes when I text you you don’t seem super enthused about it…”

Momo was breaking this poor girl’s heart. She probably had no idea Dahyun was head over heels for her. It made Sana so jealous. She took a deep breath.

“Well yes, I’m sorry about that Dahyun. I enjoy talking with you, even if it doesn’t seem like it.”

Dahyun sighed with relief and smiled with her lips pressed together. “I’m glad to hear it...I didn’t want to annoy you.”

The Uber driver pulled up and Sana and Dahyun got into the car after warmly greeting the driver. The park was about 15 minutes away from the school. They mostly drove in silence. Dahyun’s heart was pounding the center time while Sana was blatantly staring at ther with a smile on her face.

Arriving at the park, Sana quickly hooked her arm with Dahyun’s as they walked around the path which wrapped around the area. The park was decorated with cherry blossom trees, however they weren’t in full bloom. Still, the place was peaceful and beautiful, and the perfect place to come and talk with someone. The two girls made it to an empty swingset. They each sat down and started gently swinging their legs.

“Momo, can I confess something?” Dahyun asked. She was looking at Sana intently, causing her breath to get caught in .

“Yeah, of course. Any secret of yours is safe with me.” Sana winked at Dahyun and Dahyun nearly fell off the swing.

“I’m really surprised to be out here with you...surprised but happy. I think I’ve liked you for awhile, but I was so sure you just considered me as a friend. Wait, you do consider me as more than a friend, right? I mean a walk in the park…” Dahyun looked at Sana in horror, suddenly realizing that maybe she misread all the signals and had just blurted out her secret crush.

“This is a date,” Sana assured, leaning over and pinching Dahyun’s cheek.

“Okay good,” Dahyun sighed with relief, smiling at Sana warmly. If only Dahyun looked at her this way when she was actually herself. So it was confirmed then, Dahyun was definitely in love with Momo. She’d just hang onto this moment for a little longer before she had to wipe the girl’s memory. At least she could cherish the moment, and maybe move on from here. Then there was the whole problem of her looking like Momo...but she’d deal with that later. Dahyun was all hers now.

The two girls got up and made their way to the playground. Sana began chasing Dahyun around, ignoring parents’ judgemental stares as they stood along the edge of the playground watching their children have way less fun than Dahyun or Sana.

After they were both tired out and Sana had claimed herself to be the queen of the playground (despite the protests from a little kid that didn’t like her being on his turf), Dahyun’s hand found Sana’s as they walked back toward the parking lot where they’d originally been dropped off. After Sana got an Uber set up for them, 3 minutes away, Dahyun gave her a strange look.

“Hey...did you get a new phone?” Dahyun asked.

“Um, yeah,” Sana replied quickly. She stuck her phone in her bag and wrapped her arms around Dahyun, causing the younger girl to make a strange, pained sound.

“And your bag...I just realized Sana has the same one I think,” Dahyun choked out, but her face was reddening at how close Sana’s face was to hers. Sana was using all of her charms now, and even looking like Momo she was sure that they were working based on the look on Dahyun’s face.

Sana moved her lips closer to Dahyun and the girl looked like she was internally reciting a prayer. Sana planted a kiss on Dahyun’s cheek with an exaggerated sound and Dahyun laughed. The gesture was cute and soft...something you’d expect on a first date. And for Sana, it was enough.

“Hey Dahyun?” Sana asked.

“Hm?”

“Speaking of Sana, what do you think of her?”

“I really like her,” Dahyun answered, looking slightly taken off guard by the question. “She’s a good friend.”

Sana simply nodded, but couldn’t help but look slightly pained. Dahyun wanted to say more, seeing the girl’s strange reaction, but was cut short by the uber driver pulling up beside them. They spent the ride to Dahyun’s dorm in comfortable silence. Sana was staring at Dahyun again, and this time Dahyun was staring back. When they both got out, stepping outside of the large dorm building, Sana took Dahyun’s hands and squeezed them.

“This was great,” Sana replied, smiling sadly. “It’s everything I ever wanted.”

“Why are you talking like we won’t do this again?” Dahyun searched Sana’s face for an answer, but saw nothing but bittersweetness in her smile.

“Because we won’t. I’m not the person you love.”

“W-what?” Dahyun stammered at Sana dropping the big “L” word.

“It’s okay Dahyun-ie, I know,” Sana replied softly. “Maybe one day things will be different. Maybe Momo will learn to love you back. In the meantime, I’ll be waiting for you. But I’ll stop hoping. I won’t go searching for someone else but I won’t be opposed to the possibility of meeting someone new.”

“What are you talking about?” Dahyun replied, releasing Sana’s hands. “You’re scaring me…”

“I’m sorry,” Sana whispered. “I didn’t mean to.” She reached into her bag and pulled out a handful of glitter. Dahyun simply stared at her in confusion. Sana took a deep breath and blew the glitter at Dahyun’s face. She added more this time to make Dahyun forget their entire outing together. She wouldn’t even remember Momo showing up at her school.

She stepped back and Dahyun blinked. The confused look on the younger girl’s face turned into a blank one. Sana quickly turned around and began walking away, hugging herself as she felt her eyes stinging with tears. It would be a long walk back to her apartment, but Sana needed the alone time to clear her head.

Dahyun stood for a moment before she clutched her head and whined, closing her eyes. “Ow,” she muttered. She opened her eyes and looked around. How did I get here? She looked down at the ground. And why is there glitter at my feet?

Remember when Nayeon asked Mina to take things slow for now? It seems Mina had a different definition of slow in mind than Nayeon. The two of them were currently pressed against a wall in the bathroom, with Mina only wearing a towel wrapped around herself. The only thing holding the towel up was Nayeon’s body against hers, as Mina’s hands had long ago since abandoned the towel and were preoccupied playing with Nayeon’s hair. Their lips were locked, and Mina’s legs were beginning to wrap themselves around Nayeon’s.

How did it end up like this, you’re probably asking?

Well, Mina had just finished taking a shower and was opening the bathroom door to head back to her room to change when she noticed Nayeon coming up the stairs at that exact moment. Nayeon’s eyes widened a bit as she saw Mina with her damp hair and purple towel wrapped delicately around herself. Normally the sight was exactly that...normal. But now that things had changed between the two girls, Nayeon’s eyes couldn’t help but linger. And goddamn it, Mina caught onto that.

Mina beckoned Nayeon back to the bathroom, and Nayeon hesitantly followed. “What do you—”

Nayeon was cut short as Mina closed the bathroom door shut behind Nayeon. They were alone in the bathroom together, still warm and steamy from Mina’s shower. Without a word, Mina shoved Nayeon up against the wall (shoved!) and then crashed her lips against Nayeon’s. In shock, Nayeon only stared as Mina pressed closer. She smelled like autumn scented body wash...pumpkin pie and apple cider and bonfires with friends all wrapped up into one heavenly scent. It was only a matter of seconds before Nayeon was melting against Mina’s touch.

And that’s how Nayeon got into this unexpected predicament. It was that simple (and Nayeon had zero self control, apparently).

After a few minutes, Nayeon pushed Mina off of her. “Mina!” Nayeon scolded, crossing her arms and looking at the younger girl with accusation. “God, I didn’t know you had that in you.”

Mina’s doe eyes lit up with embarrassment and shame as she realized what just happened. She backed up from Nayeon. “I’m sorry,” she whined. “I...I don’t know what came over me. This keeps happening to me...it’s like these thoughts aren’t even my own but they’re consuming me.”

Nayeon immediately softened, remembering that she’d done this to Mina, and couldn’t help but feel terrible about it. “It’s okay,” Nayeon assured. “We just can’t let anything like this happen in front of anyone else.”

“Why not?” Mina challenged, jutting her chin at Nayeon. “Would it be so bad for everyone else to see?”

Nayeon leaned against the wall and sighed. “It’s...complicated. You know with Chaeyoung right now, it just wouldn’t be fair to her.”

Mina’s defiance quickly fizzled out and she nodded. “I know you’re right...I just want to be with you and I’m getting very impatient.” Her downcast eyes turned upward, searching Nayeon’s face for any reaction. “Would you...want to be with me too?”

Nayeon was ready to run out of the bathroom now...but Mina had basically backed her into a literal corner. “Maybe,” she admitted softly. In all honesty she could see herself dating Mina. These two times they’d kissed were, well, pretty impressionable, for lack of a better word. Nayeon couldn’t deny that she definitely felt something for Mina. She just wasn’t sure if it was lust or something more. And there was always Jeongyeon...the girl who drove her crazy. “I just need time to think about things.”

That was fair enough. Mina nodded in understanding. After all, this whole thing was extremely sudden. Her feelings toward Nayeon had practically developed overnight for reasons known to her. But they were there, she couldn’t simply ignore them. They were like an itch she had to scratch.

Nayeon really needed to find a reversal spell. As she awkwardly exited the bathroom after peaking her head out to make sure Sana or Jihyo weren’t around, she realized there was a chance she could lift the spell on Mina, and the girl could still like her. If that was the case, then actually dating the girl felt right. But if Mina lost all feelings for her, then she’d know that Mina’s heart really belonged to Chaeyoung. There’d only be one way to find out.

Nayeon made a promise to herself not to let Mina do that again. She’d stop the girl, even if she had to physically restrain her, to spare the girl the embarrassment.

That promise lasted all of one day.

Nayeon let Mina kiss her again.

And again.

And Nayeon loved every second of it.

They snuck it in during the middle of the night, when Jihyo and Sana were sleeping, in the bathroom at school after they both got out of class, even in Nayeon’s car as Nayeon had volunteered to give Mina more rides recently. Nayeon was beginning to crave the taste of Mina’s lips. She was doomed with a capital "D".

Sana had been strangely absent over the course of the next few days. Nayeon knew Sana was at least coming home for the night, but it was always very late when Nayeon was sleeping. The girl would stumble in the dark into the room and fall into the bed, pulling her covers completely over her head so she looked like a lump underneath them in the morning when Nayeon woke up.

Nayeon had texted the girl in worry, but Sana had assured her that she was perfectly fine, that she’d just been spending a lot of time with Dahyun. This of course was a total lie, but Nayeon didn’t know that and the lingering threat of Sana winning the bet they’d made loomed over her.

Honestly Sana was avoiding seeing anyone at all costs. She didn’t want to give Nayeon the satisfaction she’d messed up this royally. The truth was she still hadn’t found any way to reverse the spell and it was starting to become annoying being Momo. For starters, she couldn’t go to class. She could only convince her professors she was deathly ill for so long before they’d start to become suspicious. She couldn’t even spend time in her own apartment unless everyone else was asleep, which was the worst part of it. Especially considering the big secret she’d stumbled upon late one night.

Sana had entered the apartment and was about to go upstairs when she saw a glimpse of Jihyo’s door opening. Like a ninja, she dove behind the couch and watched as Mina walked down the stairs and entered the kitchen, filling up a glass of water. A few minutes later, Nayeon came down the stairs as well. They started having a hushed conversation, much to Sana’s frustration, and they were clearly taking their sweet time. Sana sighed and checked her phone, going through social media until she heard a strange sound. Startled, she slowly poked her head up just enough so she could see what was going on. Sana nearly choked at the sight of Mina sitting on the countertop with Nayeon leaning over her. She couldn’t believe her eyes as her two roommates kissed and it got quite heated.

Sana pressed a hand to to suppress a scream. She wanted to run out of the apartment but she was trapped. She easily could’ve just looked away but she couldn’t help but watch in horror and fascination. As far as she knew, Mina liked Chaeyoung and Nayeon liked Jeongyeon. After all, it was Nayeon who’d made the bet that got her in this predicament in the first place. So what in the heck was happening now?

Sana’s head was reeling as the two girls finally retreated back to bed. Sana sat for a few more minutes, hoping Nayeon would fall asleep quickly. After all, she did just exert herself quite a bit. Ew.

And so after a few more minutes, Sana retreated up to bed with her hoodie pulled up. Sure enough, the light to her room was off and she slipped inside. She got ready for bed and tucked herself into the covers in the darkness. Once she was settled, she closed her eyes but heard a slight cough.

“Sana, are you sure you’re okay?” Nayeon asked groggily.

“Yeah,” Sana replied, trying to make her voice sound higher pitched. “Go to bed.”

Nayeon simply sighed and turned over in her bed. Sana sank further into her mattress and pulled her comforter over her head. Maybe she could use this secret to her advantage...she could threaten to spill Nayeon and Mina’s little fling to the world unless Nayeon agreed to help her reverse the spell she was under and not tell anyone else about her mistake in the meantime.

Tomorrow, after Nayeon got back from school, Sana would confront the girl and clear things up.
