It starts, like all of Mina’s nightmares do, with a police chase. Except she’s not dreaming when her dad catches a laser beam in his right leg and falls to the ground.

Mina stumbles the few steps to her dad and falls to her knees beside his leg, the sound of his groans mixing with the shouts of the police and the blood rushing past her ears. She presses her hands against the wound on his leg and looks back at the police, still a block away.

Her dad grabs at her arm. “Mina, run.”

“But dad,” Mina protests, eyebrows creased with worry and hands fluttering with nothing to do.

“Go,” he grits out, glancing behind her. “Find your mom. Don’t worry about me.”

Mina frowns. “Dad, no.”

"Go."
