teaser three
Run, Hide, Tell"Again?" the girl sighed, looking directly into her father's eyes as if asking what the reason was this time. The man, a rather tall one, with a long face and nose, along with greying hair only nodded. If his features did not suggest he was foreign, his tongue would. He simply nodded, picking up a thick brown leather book, tied with a fairly hairy brown string. Its contents seemed to almost spill out of the book. It does and the girl rolled her eyes, picking up the picture that dropped out of the book.
"Ah," he fondly muttered, "South Korea."
"That's South Korea?" she asked, staring at the picture. She's pleasantly surprised to see how her mother's birth country looks like. They've always told stories about their adventures in the country but there wasn't much pictures shown to her. She's curious to know what city it was but her thoughts take over. This was it, she thought.
"Hey, baba," she started, startling her father because she's all serious and sarcasm isn't dripping from her tone. "I've been thinking about it ... and I really want to go to Seoul."
"Oh? I mean ... we could stop there for a while before heading to Japan, I guess," he replied, furrowing his eyebrows as a frown began to appear on his daughter's face.
"No, you don't understand ..." she exasperatedly answered, "I want to settle down in Seoul." Before her father could reply, she hastily added, "Alone, if you guys want to still travel and stuff."
"You what?" Her father's face was stoic, as his mind registered what his daughter was saying.
"I have it all planned. I'll get a degree at a university. I promise my grades will be top notch, you know my grades are more than fine right now. Plus, we've been constantly travelling, imagine if I settled down- maybe I'll actually be valedictorian?" she explained, taking a breather before continuing, "I'll stay nearby grandma and grandpa so you won't have to worry about me much. I just ask for money for my education. That's it."
Her father is left speechless. Her mother entered, confusion written all over her face as she noticed her husband's face and her daughter's determined eyes.
"I'm 18, baba, eomma. I can take care of myself."

Ironically, she's now 21 and needs more care than she was 18. Her heart's aching and she wishes her parents are here with her, hugging her tightly.
