Being Accepted

Being Accepted

“And this is my room,” Yixing told Junmyeon softly while holding his hand in a gentle yet tight grip. He guided the hybrid slowly to the room, as he was aware of his injuries, and opened the door with so much force that a loud thud could be heard as it was pushed against the wall behind it. Junmyeon shot the child a surprised look to which Yixing replied with a sheepish smile.

The car ride had been more than awkward.

Yixing's father had given the hybrid a cold shoulder from the very beginning. The man sat behind the wheel, not even once lifting his gaze off the street, with a rather grim expression on his face. His mother had at least tried to hold a conversation with him and said a few things for the first few minutes before realizing that she wouldn't get an answer – it didn't take long until she simply gazed out of the window quietly while they drove down the road.

But it didn't seem to matter what Yixing's parents thought of him being a new addition to their little family. Or at least Yixing didn't seem to mind that they weren't too thrilled.

As soon as they had arrived, the little child had taken the hybrid by his hand, his stuffed animal in the other, and brought himto their flat, introducing him to every single corner. Even though Junmyeon was completely knew to his surroundings, he thought that he'd be able to find everything within the first attempt.

This is my bed, and this is my closet, and this is the table where I draw lots of pictures at! We should draw together, what do you think?” Yixing told him excitedly, pointing at every object he was referring to with the hand he was holding mister Sniffles paw in. “Oh, or would you rather sit down because of your leg? We could have a tea party! I promised Mister Giraffe to have one soon anyway, it would be like catching two birds with one stone!”

Junmyeon couldn't help but smile softly while listening to Yixing's suggestion. The child was truly adorable in his ways and so energetic. It felt as if Yixing was conveying some of his energy onto him and Junmyeon immediately felt the need to fulfill every single one of the darling's wishes. His ankle did indeed hurt from the tour he had been given and it gave the bunny hybrid all the more a reason to nod his head lightly in agreement.

Oh, that's so great! Wait here!” Yixing told him and grabbed one of the four tiny plastic stools standing in the corner of his room. He lifted it up, his tiny feet making a noise whenever he placed them on the laminate floor. “Sit here, mister bunny,” he pointed at the chair he had placed in the middle of the room, “you can take care of mister Sniffles while I go and invite our other friends.”

Junmyeon's heart fluttered as Yixing gave him the most adorable smile.

It was radiant, full of life and innocence. One single precious and deep dimple showed itself and the hybrid spotted a missing tooth where the child's upper left canine was supposed to be. Everything about Yixing screamed loveable and it made Junmyeon's chest feel stuffy. But he smiled nevertheless as he accepted mister Sniffles into his arms to hold him tightly as he watched Yixing arrange everything for their little tea party.

It surprisingly didn't take the boy too long to finish arranging everything for their little get-together and soon the other chairs were occupied by little Yixing himself and three stuffed animals on each of the other two seating possibilities. Yixing himself sat in the chair right next to him, his little legs brushing against Junmyeon's every time they were moved.

Some green tea for mister Sniffles,” Yixing mumbled while filling a plastic cup with imaginary liquid, his little tongue sticking out as a clear sign of concentration, “some for mister Giraffe, some for mister Dinosaur, … and some for pretty mister bunny Junjun.”

Yixing gently pushed the cup towards him with a toothy grin on his face, careful as not to spill any of the precious tea inside.

Junmyeon could feel the tips of his cheeks gaining a rosy colour, his blood rushing through his veins in a quick manner. His long ears felt incredibly warm and he was sure that one could actually see the blood vessels in his tender skin very clearly without much effort. The last time he was complimented had been a very long time ago and it made him wonder if his own babies would have been as lovely as Yixing. Would they have made him smile just as much? Would they have given him just as many compliments? Would they have given him so much energy as well? He couldn't find an answer to any of the questions.

Junmyeon wanted to thank the boy next to him but no words left his mouth. He instead nodded his head again and slowly raised his hand to run his fingers through Yixing's hair. It was very soft and silky. Junmyeon felt the need to hide his nose in it and inhale the child's smell. He knew that it was highly inappropriate to do so though, he didn't know the child well enough and Yixing didn't really know him either. Nevertheless, he couldn't help but keep touching the child. First his hair, then his neck and back. Yixing's skin was warm to his touch and it felt pleasant to be able to feel another person this close again. Junmyeon had been alone for quite some time, first left by his owner, then the doctors and finally he had also been alone in the animal home.

But Yixing was so close to him, radiant like the sun itself, and Junmyeon was lucky enough to be able to enjoy his rays.

He smiled softly as the child leaned into his touch, giving him the toothy grin he had been given before, while holding his own little teacup in both of his hands. “Thank you,” Junmyeon told him softly, finally speaking for the first time as he rubbed circles on Yixing's back. His own voice sounded foreign to him, he hadn't spoken in a long time. Junmyeon clearly remembered that his voice used to be like velvet, very soft especially whenever he sang to his children, but now it sounded very rusty, unused and raw. He had to clear his throat before continuing. “I really am very thankful, little Yixing.”

Junmyeon didn't say any more but he hoped the child got his message. His words were spoken with sincerity that could almost be felt. And even though he knew that Yixing was still only a child, Junmyeon had been quick to realize that he was a very smart one.

He wasn't just thankful for Yixing having convinced his parents to adopt him despite all the difficulties that came with having him as a pet – no, he was thankful for so much more. Yixing had accepted him from the very first moment and shared every part of his life with such ease that Junmyeon could not help but feel welcome at the child's side. They did not know each other but Yixing still integrated him in his routine so easily, taking him in with open arms.

This wasn't just a new home to Junmyeon, with a new flat, new furniture, new people. This was a whole new chance of having a different, better life. And even though Junmyeon did not, never, intend to forget his past, he would start to look forward from now on. Because he wasn't on his own anymore. He had Yixing now, someone who looked up to him, who thought of him as a companion, as a friend, and he also had Yixing's parents even though he would still have to get to know them better. Junmyeon was sure that even his own children wanted him to have a more positive mindset, wherever they may be.

Yixing looked at him with surprise at first, his eyes wide and his mouth open. It didn't take long for his lips to stretch into a smile though and he soon nodded his head. His eyes were shining brightly while he put his cup down, placing it on the little plastic table in front of him, before turning to the side, leaning closer to the bunny.

You are welcome, mister Junjun,” he said and soon placed his hands on Junmyeon's shoulder, giving the bunny's cheek a gentle kiss. “Let's always play together, okay? We can be friends forever!”

Junmyeon lifted his hand to his cheek, placing it where Yixing's kiss still lingered on his skin. The way Yixing acted towards him was something very moving and he could feel his eyes gaining moisture. It was all out of sheer happiness though and so Junmyeon quickly nodded his head. “Let's do that,” he smiled at the child in front of him and placed both of his own hands on top of Yixing's which still rested on each of his shoulders. They both couldn't help but smile as they looked at each other.

Junmyeon had never felt so accepted and appreciated before.

Honestly, I should have planned this better because I actually published this story shortly before my exam period which obviously wasn't the smartest move. This update is also a very short one and I haven't reread any of it yet but I hope you guys can still enjoy the chapter to the fullest.

Do you love these sulay interactions as much as I do? Please tell me know down in the comments! ♡
