Warnings for this part: angst, violence, blood

”You didn’t answer my question,” you pointed out.

The two of you had decided to go back to the apartment after seeing Jooheon head there too.

“You didn’t answer mine either,” he stated matter-of-factly. “I asked first so I think I should get the answer first.”

You remained quiet. Why was it so hard to admit that you indeed loved him? Or that you at least thought so. Why couldn’t you get the words out of your mouth?

Maybe you feared rejection. You feared it a lot.

What is there to lose though? He can’t just leave my side unless he really hates me and would rather die which, now that I think about it, doesn’t sound that impossible… But he has changed, though. Maybe in the beginning he would have but not now. I don’t think he would leave me now.

You looked at him while you two walked down the street. His eyes were fixated ahead. You wondered what he would look like with dark eyes. What he would be like with his human personality.

“Do you like me that much?” he asked quite nonchalantly without even glancing at you.

You just hummed subconsciously. He glanced at you, slightly surprised, and smirked after seeing your expression.

“That didn’t mean anything,” you said, not liking how he teased you with his smirk.

“Sure, it didn’t,” he teased.

You turned your head away, blushing lightly. Why was it so damn hard for you two to get serious for a second?

Everyone had gathered in the living room once you arrived at the apartment. Jihyo was still there and it sounded like she was telling everyone what Yuna’s condition was.

“It doesn’t look very bright,” she said right when you and Minhyuk stopped in the doorway of the room. She acknowledged your presence by glancing at you but didn’t say anything.

“She has never looked very bright,” Minhyuk stated coldly.

“This is serious, Minhyuk,” the woman glared at the guy next to you. “She lost a lot of blood. And when I say a lot, I mean it.”

“We are quick to heal,” Jooheon pointed out from the corner of the room.

“Her “superpowers” aren’t going to be a big help,” she looked concerned. “I honestly think it’s going to come down to whether she has the will to live or not.”

Everyone’s expressions darkened, yours included. You all knew she wasn’t exactly loving life.

“I did everything I could,” Jihyo stood up from the armchair she had been sitting on and grabbed her jacket. “I tried my best. Now she should do the same.”

“Thank you,” Hoseok said when she started walking towards the doorway where you and Minhyuk were still standing.

Jihyo turned to look at him. She didn’t say anything, just looked at him and turned around to walk to the doorway. Minhyuk moved aside immediately and you made room for her too.

“Thank you,” you told her and she stopped.

“Thank me when she survives this,” she said and the look in her eyes was rather sad even though her tone was cold.

You sat down on the chair next to the bed. Yuna’s eyes looked dead as she stared at the ceiling.

“I don’t know what to say…” you said quietly. “I’m so sorry…”

“It’s not like this is your fault,” her voice sounded raspy.

You observed her expressionless face quietly. Minutes passed and you couldn’t take your eyes off her. You had never seen anyone so broken.

“When I was seventeen my father beat me up,” she stated with a low voice, breaking the silence. “I told him that I had started dating with a girl and he went crazy. He wasn’t very fond of the idea that his daughter was a lesbian.”

You looked at her, taken aback by her sudden confession.

“I ran away from home and went to Eunkyung,” your heart ached at the mention of her name. “She didn’t ask questions, just told me that everything would be okay and that I had her no matter what would happen,” she stopped for a bit. “My parents didn’t even report me missing at any point, and that’s the only thing they gave me that I will ever be thankful for; a life without them.”

Imagining the situation she had been in made you feel sad for her.

She must have had it hard…

“Eunkyung was such a ray of sunshine,” she spoke with a small smile on her bruised lips.

“She was,” you agreed.

“I loved it when she tried to make me feel better,” she continued with a sadder voice though the faint smile remained on her lips. “It never took long before I was feeling better already.”

You smiled thinking about how you had had similar moments with her. She had always known what to say, which you had very slightly envied.

“Even after all I went through today…” Yuna spoke more quietly now. “Even after obtaining all there injuries…” her voice broke. “I’m hurting more inside.”

You sat there, heart aching, not knowing what to say.

“Because of me…” her voice was so filled with pain that it caused you to feel like someone was stabbing your heart. “She’s gone because I couldn’t leave her for good… Because I was selfish…”

You hung your head low. One. Two. Three. Someone kept stabbing your heart yet you weren’t bleeding. You also felt some guilt.

If I had gotten there even a little bit earlier…

“They told me I would not remember anything or feel pain after changing. I was excited about getting so bad that I would change, I kept wishing every day, you know?” she let out a chuckle that sounded sad and frustrated. “Isn’t that sad? That I hoped I would just forget everything? Even Eunkyung.”

You glanced at her. She was crying but it seemed like she hadn’t even realized it. The tears just kept rolling down her face while her expression remained cold.

“The only good memories I have are with Eunkyung. I was ready to forget those too. You know why?”

Despite her tough expression, her voice was filled with pain and remorse.

“Because she deserved better,” she spat. “I was just a burden to her…”

You opened your mouth to deny it since you knew how much Eunkyung had loved her. Before you could speak, a voice spoke behind you.

“I think it would be better to let her rest for now,” you turned your head just before Hoseok put his hand on your shoulder. “She needs some sleep.”

After looking at him for a bit you got up. “Yeah…” you mumbled and turned your head to look at the crying girl lying on the bed. “Please don’t be too harsh on yourself Yuna,” you told her. “She loved you just as much as you love her. You were never a burden to her. She would have wanted you to know that.”

She turned her head away and you took it as a sign to leave the room. Hoseok followed you and closed the door slowly after getting out. You looked at him. His face was bruised and he was limping noticeably.

“Are you even in the position to take care of others?” you gave him a cold look.

He looked at you. “The less injured one should take care of the seriously injured one, don’t you think?”

“Maybe if there were only those two people around I would understand but you have seven uninjured people here who can take care of you both.”

He looked at you silently.

“So how about you go and rest, too?” you crossed your arms. “The couch in undoubtedly free for you to lie down and take a nap.”

He remained silent for a bit before a smirk formed on his lips. You frowned at the gesture in confusion but he just turned around and walked away. You watched him while he walked in to the kitchen and out of your sight.

“Is your mind poisoned enough with negativity already?” Minhyuk’s voice asked and he came to stand in front of you.

For a second, you felt like telling him to stop saying things like that. You didn’t and just looked in to his eyes instead. You wondered if he had ever been as broken as Yuna was now. If he had ever felt so frustrated with life.

“Are you okay?” he asked after minutes passed by as you just silently looked at him.

“I’m not the one you should be asking,” you calmly stated and headed to the kitchen where the guys were.

No one paid attention on you when you entered the room but after Minhyuk came in, everyone lifted their heads.

“What are we going to do?” Hyungwon asked Minhyuk who only gave him a gla

[SPOILER ALERT TO ANYONE READING RIGHT NOW; don't read this comment]

So I binge-read and finished this while doing some things in between the last time I commented.

I'm satisfied with how it turned out in the end, even though I'm a little sad about the sacrifice that was made by one of the characters towards the end. I think it's a small mercy that she was able to remember him to some extent, but forget all of the other hurt. I honestly don't think it's easy to continue living with memories of so much hurt and sadness, as it was also evidently shown by some of the other characters throughout the entire story.

I might have missed this though but: what happened to Hajoon? He's a minor character but I just wonder about how he would react to all of the events....

Just another thing I wanted to point out: I really liked the relationship between Eunkyung x Yuna (romantic), and Eunkyung x reader (platonic).

Thanks so much for this story!

Chapter 1: Random note as I begin !!! I laughed when I read your foreword because I can read it in my own voice ?? bUT by the means of reading chapter one this looks super promising and I'll be sure to comment again as I go through this. Also since I'm annoying and I love commenting on writing style : I really like the way you describe things and I also like how mysterious chapter one is (and sets the tone for the rest of the story). You reveal quite a bit but not enough so now I want more (aka time for me to shut up and read :') )
