Pt.13
BlueWarnings for this part: some violence
When your eyes met Kihyun’s icy ones, you turned your gaze away and opened the door wider to let him in the apartment. He coldly walked past you into the living room where Yuna was already waiting for him. You decided to stay out of their way and headed to the kitchen.
I’ll just wait here until he leaves.
You sat at the small dining table and looked out of the window. The weather was gloomy: the sky was grey even though there was no rain and it was quite windy. It matched your mood. After what had happened with Minhyuk on the day before, you hadn’t been feeling too good. You kept seeing his creepy, threatening smirk in your mind. You hadn’t been able to sleep and your mind was just filled with him and his creepiness.
“Minhyuk isn’t doing well,” you flinched at the sudden voice and looked at Kihyun who was standing in the doorway, looking at you with the harsh look he usually had. “He isn’t going to visit you today.”
Without letting you react in any way, he disappeared from the doorway and soon you could hear the door of the apartment open and close, signaling you he had left the apartment.
“Jerk,” Yuna walked in to the kitchen. “They’re all rude and annoying and now one of them refuses to do his job that is literally just following a person around. How hard can that be, seriously?”
You observed the girl for a bit. “Can I ask you something?” you asked hesitantly.
She gulped down some water. “What?” her voice was harsh.
“Why are you so important to everyone?” you asked, curious.
She furrowed her eyebrows slightly.
“I don’t mean it in an offensive-“
“Did the seven jerks tell you about my gift?” she asked, saying the word “gift” as if it tasted bad. You nodded. “That’s what makes me important to everyone.”
“What’s so special about it though? I mean, to me it sounds like you hate it since you still remember how you got to where you are today.”
“Exactly,” she smirked. “I know where I come from. I know why I’m like this. Knowing those things make me stronger.”
You furrowed your eyebrows a little, confused. “Wouldn’t telling a normal blue blood about their roots make them stronger then?”
“No. The ones who have the gift of knowledge are mentally stronger even before changing. It’s impossible for a normal one to survive longer than a couple of days after getting told about their past. Even we, the ones with the so-called gift of knowledge, usually last only about a week or so after changing before killing ourselves,” she took a short break. “Our thoughts are darker than you could ever imagine. For a human to ever even reach the point of becoming one of our kind requires extremely dark thoughts.”
You looked at her. She looked quite tired.
“So, if one with the gift of knowledge survives longer than a week they are considered extremely strong. That makes them a target of the higher-ups. In my case, they were interested in me even before I changed because they knew I was on the verge of changing and they saw me as a good tool to keep the younger ones on their side. They also probably want to run some sick tests on me. The seven jerks are just keeping me here to keep themselves safe. They say they are doing this for the whole species but really they are just trying to save their own asses.”
You kept looking around. Minhyuk was nowhere to be seen when you were walking to work on the next morning. There were a lot of people walking on the streets already though, so you didn’t feel too scared. If something happened, it wouldn’t go unnoticed by other people.
Just like every other day when you were on the day shift, you worked until 4:30 pm and left to go home. Again, there were many people walking on the streets when you walked home so you didn’t feel too scared to be alone.
When you reached your apartment building and went inside, you found Changkyun standing outside your apartment’s door. You greeted him with a slight bow but he didn’t react in any way.
“You haven’t waited here long, have you?” you asked him.
“No,” he answered without even glancing at you.
After going inside, you headed to the kitchen again. You didn’t want to interfere with their conversation.
“Minhyuk isn’t going t
