Leave this city

Don't Let Me Go - an Addicted (Heroin) Fanfiction

Jingyu wanted to go away. After finding out that his girlfriend of two years was cheating on him, he couldn’t say a word, he just ran and ran. He wanted to forget this city. He wanted to go away. So he booked a ferry boat to another city. Just as he heard the ship call, he immediately get his backpack and boarded. He did not bother to pack many things. All he needed was a few stuffs and all of his money. He did not want to bring those stuffs that he and his ex bought for he does not want to remember anything about that vicious woman.

He did everything for that woman and she betrayed him. He will leave this city for good. Probably go to another city or country maybe, but for now, all of the thoughts that running through his mind was to go away. He was hurt. He cannot believe what love can do to him.

So from now on, he thought, he’ll never love anyone ever again. He’s afraid. He’s scared to be that in love to the point where he was about to lose himself in the process. He doesn’t want to be that person again. He want to find himself. And he will, one day. For now, the farther away he is from this city, the better he will feel.

The ship started to move away from the port. He watched as the city lights from the city started to fade. All of the memories, good and bad, were all in this city. He wished as the line of lights fade from his vision, his memories would fade too. He wish it’s that easy. But he knows it would take time.

Just as he was about to leave the panel, he saw a man. Who was also looking at the distance he was just staring at. That guy saw Jingyu looking at him but he smiled. That smile brought warmth in his icy heart. That was the first time he felt warm since the time he saw his ex making out with someone in the middle of the park for everyone to see.

“Hey, are you running away too?” The man asked.

“You guessed?” Jingyu asked back.

“I can feel it.” The man looked back at the distance and can’t see the trace of the city anymore. “I ran away from home. Because I found out yesterday that I am adopted.”

Jingyu looked at the man’s face and contemplated. He does not look sad at all. But what he’s saying is he ran away from home because he is adopted but doesn’t feel bad about it, and yet, he ran away from home.

“I won’t judge you for running away, but you know, you should atleast told your adoptive parents.” Jingyu concernedly said.

The man smiled warmly again.

“I left them a letter. Maybe they’d find it tomorrow.” The man stared back at the distance again. “My name is Xu Weizhou.”

“Why does it sounds familiar? Do you write books or something?” Jingyu asked.

“Poetry to be precise. But yeah, I guess you can find my work in some books.” Weizhou looked at Jingyu’s face and asked… “What’s your name?”

“Huang Jingyu. Just a normal guy. Well, now that I’m acquainted with a famous person, I think I can be counted as famous too.”

“Hey Mister Huang, I am not that famous. I just write those poetry and my publisher would put it in various printed media. It’s not that you can see my face like those print ad models.”

Jingyu looked closely at Weizhou for a goodwhile and said.

“Well you could be, mister Xu if you wished.” Jingyu stated. “I mean, look at you, you’re handsome, and you have an expressive eyes. Many models in the industry doesn’t have it but you do. And you have your way with words so I guess you could sweet talk your way into it. HAHA.” Jingyu laughed.

“Mister Huang, you’re tad handsome too, aren’t you a model or something?” Weizhou asked.

“Just a photographer. Nothing much I tell you.”

“Oh… well, see you around.”

With that, Xu Weizhou smiled and turned away. He walked towards the sleeping decks. Maybe he went to his own sleeping quarters.

“What an interesting guy.”

Jingyu continued to stare at the distance and contemplated on his decision. He did not tell his parents about his trip because he doesn’t want someone to stop him. He’d just send them an email or something when he got back on land so that they will not worry too much for him. As for his ex, he blocked her number and her presence in the internet before boarding the ship so he does not expect any calls or emails from her.

He doesn’t need an apology. What he needs is space. Space as far as the whole world could stretch. He want to forget so he will.

Weizhou did not went to his sleeping quarter but instead, he went in the bar where it was impossibly quiet. Maybe bars in the ferry boats is not that lively than those of cruise ships. He ordered a glass of whiskey and then pull out a pen and his journal. He was a poet afterall. He is used to writing down events in his life. No matter how insignificant may it seems, he would still jot it down. He’s the type of person who wants to remember each and every detail of his life. And turn those into a wonderful piece of poetry. Some he saves for his own, some he sends to his publisher and somehow gets paid doing so. Writing poetry is natural to him. So he found a way to sell his work by working with various artist to promote his poetry. Sometimes he would be asked to write wedding vows and he would gladly do it, for a fee of course.

He ran away from home not because he hated his life. In fact, he was very thankful to his adoptive parents for giving him an opportunity to do whatever he wanted in his life. Yesterday was his supposed 25th birthday and his parents finally told him that he was adopted. They were crying. But they also felt proud for raising such a good child like Weizhou. He locked himself inside his room and wrote two letters to his parents. One for his father, whom works very hard to support the family that he made, even though he could not produce an offspring of his own, he loved Weizhou with all of his heart and that was enough for Weizhou to realize his love for him. Another letter was for his mom, whom although fertile, chose to be with the person she loves the most in the world and supported him all the step of the way. And also for giving unconditional love for a child that is isn’t hers to begin with.

They told Weizhou that he was adopted in Taiwan when Weizhou’s parents were still living there before moving in Shanghai. All they gave Weizhou was the name of the place he was adopted in. And hearing it, he was deadest on finding his own roots. Not because he wanted to know them, but because he wanted to thank them for giving him up and meeting another set of parents that he would not trade for anything in this world. Maybe knowing them would just be a bonus.
