Chapter 3

Undecided
Wiping your tears away, you picked up all of your things off the floor and headed to your next class. Not bothering to look where you were going, you accidentally bumped into someone.

" Oof!" you were expecting to hit the ground but noticed that the person you bumped into had grabbed you before that could happen. You were about to apologize but stopped when you saw that it was none other than one of the school's kingkas. You hung your mouth open without realizing it.

The handsome kingka chuckled at your expression. " Are you waiting for a fly to land in your mouth, or are you going to close it?" He gave you the most charming smile you had ever seen in your entire life, which wasn't much since you're only in high school, but you get the idea.

You blushed and quickly closed your mouth. "S-sorry for bumping into you. I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking..." You bowed once or twice while saying sorry, hoping the other wasn't mad at you. You noticed people starting to gather around and calling friends over to see the kingka standing in front of you. You decided it was best to leave as of right now because you did not want any more trouble today. You bowed once more while saying sorry and quickly walked off to the direction of your next class.

You heard the kingka say something but you hurried faster and soon arrived at your classroom. What you didn't notice was that you had dropped your student ID card and the kingka had wanted to return it to you. He decided that he'd give it to you another time.

(At home, after school)

You walked in to your house and took off your shoes at the front door. While heading to your room upstairs you yelled, "Danyeo wasseubnida*!" A/N: means "I'm back"

Your heard your mother respond, "How was school today?"

You answered as naturally as you could so your mom wouldn't question you. "It was good!" You decided that today would be a good day to look for a job since it might take your mind off of today's events. You changed your clothes to at least look presentable to an employer and walked over to the living room where your mom was relaxing on the couch. "Hey umma, I'm going to go out to look for a job." you said.

She looked at you with a worried face but just nodded and laid on the couch for some needed rest. She said in a worried voice, "Come back home before dinner, okay?"

You nodded and said okay before you walked out the door. You started to walk towards the first marked store on your list that was hiring. After about an hour of going to stores with no luck of employment, you went to a small antique-like store that had a poster on the door saying that they were hiring. You walked into the store thinking this will be the final one before heading back home.

The small store was cozy and a bit old fashioned with things that looked like they would break at the slightest movement of the object. You noticed an old lady sitting behind a counter at the far end of the store. Thinking that she was an employee, you walked over to the lady and asked, "Can I speak with the owner of this store?"

The lady looked up from what she was doing and smiled. "I am the owner of this fine small store. What brings you into this store of mine?"

You smiled back, "I saw your poster on the front door. You are hiring, right?"

The old lady nodded, "Yes. Yes I am. Now, from what I can tell you are still going to school. Am I correct?"

You nodded.

She walked towards the front of the store and grabbed something you couldn't quite see. She walked back to you and handed you a pin with the word 'employee' written on it. "It is your responsibility to come everyday, even if you are extremely busy with school. That is my only condition. If you know what's good for you, you won't break that rule EVER. It is important to keep that as a priority. Of course you'll be paid nicely for the work you do. What do you think? Will you accept?" The old lady said this all in a serious tone, not light and cheerful like before.

You gulped and thought that the condition was a weird condition but you thought about your family and decided. "I accept!" you said in a clear voice filled with determination. You decided to think over the condition later, but right now you felt accomplished and wanted to tell your mom the good news.

The old lady smiled once again and said, "Good choice! You will start working tomorrow at the earliest time you can."

You smiled from ear to ear, not literally of course but you get the idea, and gleefully said, "Okay! Thank you so much ahjumma!" you bowed and said your goodbye and walked out as cheerful as you could be. 'I guess this makes up for what happened earlier today. Hopefully things will turn out better.'
