Author note: So, this is just a simple one-shot (ft. text conversation) Baekhera story, basically New Year edition :P not much to expect tho but... I hope you enjoy <3

"Congrats, Hyunnie!" Lee Junki, the hot actor congratulated his cute hoobae who just received Best New Star award. Other casts of Scarlet Heart Ryeo also did the same, they looked so proud while watching Baekhyun went up the stage to take the award. They were at SBS Drama Awards, fyi. All the young casts were there except Jisoo, Joohyuk and Z.Hera. Almost completed though, too bad. However, they still seemed happy to have such chance to gather again. Baekhyun even received award, their main couple; Lee Junki and IU too as best couple award.

 

In the winning speech, Baekhyun thanked his hyungs, noonas and dongsaengs who had helped and worked together. Later, he had a solo stage of For You (one of Scarlet Heart Ryeo OST) and collab stage with his labelmate; Seohyun, they sang a song titled Hey Jude. His nice voice was such a bless~  However, he couldn't stay for too long there as he still had to attend MBC Gayo right after that for another schedule, this time with his beloved group; EXO. He was quite rushing to arrive MBC on time, such a hard working guy, you could tell.

 

EXO performed Lotto and Monster, thankfully their performance was the last one, so Baekhyun could make it on time and joined the performance. He was tired but it worth~ To be here with s, celebrated the new year together. He felt contained.

 

It just.... maybe his heart was missing someone. Maybe a little, but still. So, after the year end event finished, Baekhyun took some time to message that person.

 

 

To: Savage Soondeok

Hey, happy new year ! *insert firework icon*

 

To: Annoying Prince

Why so sudden tho? *insert smirk emoji*

 

To: Savage Soondeok

Omg.. so savage. Is it wrong to suddenly

wish happy new year during new year?

 

To: Annoying Prince

Aniya... it just too sudden.

Happy new year too *insert grin emoji*

 

To: Savage Soondeok

Anyway, why didn't you attend the drama

award? Tight schedule?

 

To: Annoying Prince

At studio alone, didn't feel really well...

Am I the only one who didn't come?

 

To: Savage Soondeok

Jisoo and Joohyuk didn't come too.

They probably hang out together, play fireworks~

 

To: Annoying Prince

Well maybe.

How do you feel now? Have you eat medicine?

Nae. Feeling better than earlier.

Let's take a walk then! On?

Why so sudden?! Omg.. seriously!

Are you feeling unwell too?!

of new year alone gloomily.

What are you 'kekeke' for?

Get ready, hurry! I'll come pick at studio.

Omg for real? Don't kidding me!

I'm not feeling well right now.

 

To: Savage Soondeok

I'll be there in twenty minutes!

*insert bicycle icon*

 

 

 

Hera couldn't help but chuckled at that bicycle emoji. Is he gonna come by riding that vehicle tho? "So annoying." She briefly commented but stood up from her seat and get ready, anyway.

As said, twenty minutes later, Baekhyun arrived at the studio building by car. Yes, he drove. And yes, he had driving license. Remember when he drove with Xiumin at Hawaii? Hera was already there, waiting in front of the building. What a coincidence, both of them were wearing black shirt and blue jeans with black shoes.

 

"Are you copying my style?" Hera sharply snapped once she got into the car.

 

The clueless Baekhyun scanned the girl's outfit before realized their same colors. He scoffed and smirked, "It's you copying my style." Both are so childish. Aigoo. "Seatbelt." He reminded before started driving again, headed out from the silent road, into a busier one.

 

Hera obediently wore the seatbelt. "Where are we going?" She asked while eyes checking the time appeared in the dashboard digital clock. Almost 2 pm.

 

"Beach." He answered merely, focus on road and driving.

 

"Beach? In this late hour?!" Because she was too loud (despite herself was feeling unwell), Baekhyun the radio and let western song played. Hera rolled her eyes and sighed boringly, threw her gaze out the window. They both stay silent for the rest journey.

 

It took only fifteen minutes but felt like ages for Hera who felt so bored and sleepy in the car. She was sleeping when they arrived at beach later. Baekhyun felt hesitate to wake her up now. He placed his palm on her forehead to check her fever. It was warm but not too warm. He felt guilty somehow for basically kidnapped her in this late hour. Maybe he should just hold back the urge to meet even though he missed her.

 

"Uh? Have we arrived yet?" Suddenly, Hera spoke, sleepily. She who just woke up now squinting her eyes and looked around. Oh! There was sea~ "Let's get out then." She unbuckled the seatbelt.

 

"Feeling fine?" Baekhyun asked, concern somehow. After that girl simply nodded and opened the car door, he did the same. They leaved the car and Baekhyun couldn't hold back his excitement as he started running childishly towards the sea. Hera who walked slowly just smiled, watched that childish guy happily cherish this moment. He took out his phone and recording video of the sea, of himself and he turned around, pointing the lens camera to Hera who was still walking closer. "Look at that slow ahjumma. She's younger than me but has zero energy. Pfftt!" He scoffed, whispered behind the camera, badmouthing Hera who heard nothing. "Nah~ Actually, she's having fever right now... but still agree to come out with me. Gomawo~" He whispered again before brought his camera back to the sea, recording the view around.

 

They weren't alone at that beach as there were other couples too, families and group of friends. Everyone was celebrating new year together with their beloved ones. But thankfully, nobody recognized him or Hera. Perhaps because the others were quite far from where both of them playing at. Hera cough twice when the cold breeze greeted her. She didn't seemed so well, not as talkative as usual. Baekhyun was crouching down on the sand, busy taking out something from his bag. So, Hera walked towards that guy to check him. "What're you doing?"

 

"Look what I bring along~" Baekhyun sang song and lifted up fireworks in his hands. He grinned proudly when Hera seemed happy and praised him for being such a genius to come up with fireworks idea. "Let's play!!" He handed two sticks to Hera and they lightened them up using lighter he brought along.

 

Hera smiled a lot while playing with the fireworks, Baekhyun felt glad somehow. He took his phone and captured her photo silently but get caught when he forgot to keep it mute, so the snapping sound caught Hera's attention.

 

 

 

He grinned apologetically for stealing photo as he thought she would get mad. But later, Hera approached him and took the phone. "Let me take your pic. Go over there." She pointed and he simply followed. "Kyeopta." Hera briefly commented at how childish Baekhyun swung the fireworks sticks in his hands while chuckled happily.

 

 

 

They spent the whole two hours at that beach happily, playing fireworks and few simple games, lying on the mat -Baekhyun brought in his car (he prepared everything quite well, huh?)- they laid it on the beach sand, talking, laughing and singing under the dark sky. Baekhyun had his right hand placed under his head while his left hand on his stomach. Hera had Baekhyun's coat covering her body as she was still having fever and the cold breeze would only make it even worse. He sang Hey Jude song and stopped after five verses.

 

"I sang that song with Seohyun noona during drama award earlier." He told the girl beside him. Both were facing the sky sparkled with stars.

 

"I heard you received award. Best New Star~" Hera said and smirked when Baekhyun sounded surprised to know that she knew it. "IU noona told me. She said you sang so good and I should be there too."

 

"Yea, you should be there too. It isn't complete without you guys. Jisoo and Joohyuk too tho, they had another schedule. Aigoo aigoo..." Hera lightly chuckled at Baekhyun who sounded so like ahjumma. "But I couldn't stay longer tho. Right after my performance, I leaved and rushingly went to MBC Gayo for EXO schedule."

 

"Uwoaa... it must be so tiring. You don't have to force yourself to meet me, oppa. You can just rest and chill."

 

"I'm resting and chilling right now, you see." Baekhyun casually replied.

 

Hera lightly scoffed and let out deep sigh. "Oppa, what's your new year wishes?"

 

"New year wishes? Hmm... I wish to make everyone around me happy. There are still a lot of things about myself that I need to improve."

 

"You're perfect already." Hera commented so lowly under her breath, so Baekhyun wouldn't hear it. Eyes still fixed on the sky.

 

"And how about you? What's your wish?" This time, Baekhyun asked. Hera thought for awhile without moving her gaze from sky above them. Later, she opened , muttered lowly but enough for Baekhyun to listen.

 

"I wish to have a success career, make more new friends, make comeback as singer, get many acting job offer. It must be so fun to be popular, right? Just like EXO."

 

Baekhyun chuckled at that honest opinion. He shrugged, "There are many pros and cons about being popular, actually. When you become so popular, sometimes, you won't get freedom. There is this image you need to take care of. Public figure, always being watched. You need to be careful in everything you did." He said and continued, "I feel envy of you, tbh. You're free to do anything and live a normal daily life without this creature called sasaeng. You know, those who followed you everywhere, even in bathroom."

 

"Omo.. bathroom?" Such a culture shock for Hera, she being exposed to new things. Yes, her life and Baekhyun's were so different. Baekhyun was really famous, or you could say EXO. Everywhere they go, people might recognized them. Meanwhile, Hera was such underrated idol who people barely knew her existence in this industry.

 

"Yes, sasaeng set up hidden camera in our bathroom and they once stole Kyungsoo's . Scary, isn't it?" Baekhyun scoffed as he recalled back those annoying issues.

 

"But, I'm an idol too. I want to know how it feels to get recognize by people too. When you did some job, of course you expect to get some appreciation and love." She pouted now. So, that was how underrated artists felt. Baekhyun didn't experience and never owned that title, but seeing how gloomy Hera's expression right now, he knew this wasn't easy for underrated artists. It must be tough, right? He admited, the girl beside him now was gifted with many talents. And he admited, she deserved so much attention and recognition. However, he didn't want her to only chasing for popularity and recognition. As he said, there were many pros and cons in being popular.

 

"You don't have to chase for it, Hera." Baekhyun his side, facing Hera who was still staring at the stars. "Just live your life as it is now, but still, continue give your best in your career, in everything you do. Don't give up. People will soon recognize and appreciate your works." Finally, Hera moved her gaze to the sunbaenim beside her. "Arasseo?" He asked.

 

She nodded and briefly replied, "Nae, arasseo." Their eyes met for nice few seconds, not to mention how close their faces too. Later, Hera looked away awkwardly, threw his attention back to the calm sky. She didn't hungry for attention, popularity or recognition though. But sometimes, she felt like the career she chose wasn't suit for her. All idols wanted appreciation, of course. Sometimes, she felt like her hard works didn't pay off. After listened to Baekhyun's story and words earlier, she felt much better. Maybe not now, maybe later. People would recognized her talents later. "Kamsahamnida--" She stopped her words right away when seeing the guy beside her was sleeping soundly, still lying on his side, facing Hera. She smiled hoplessly at that adorable view.

 

'Baekhyun oppa must be so tired.' She innerly thought, shifted closer and draped the coat -Baekhyun was lending it to her- on Baekhyun's body too, so they could share the warmth. 'He doesn't has to meet me if he's already so tired.' Hera lowly sighed, lying on her side and facing each other. She smiled warmly, 'Oppa, I wish you the best. Happy new year.' Because of the cold wind and Hera was trembling, she decided to shift even closer and head stuck under Baekhyun's chin, still sharing the same coat. She was startled when suddenly an arm wrapped around her before she heard the familiar nice voice.

 

"Sorry, I'm too sleepy to drive. Let me sleep for awhile." Baekhyun muttered without open his eyes. "Or shall we sleep in car if you're cold? But I'm so lazy to get up, so you can just leave me--"

 

"No, no, it's okay. Go back to sleep." Hera replied, silently smiled at how caring her on-screen husband could be.

 

Few seconds of silent later, Baekhyun spoke again. "Oh.. happy new year, Hera." He sounded half awake lol.. and carelessly pecked Hera's head. The girl in his arm was now blushing softly. In the nutshell, she couldn't get any sleep at all.
