Foreword

She had her eyes wide open, even though the clock on the wall was pointing at 2:33 am. She turned her face at his side of the bed. It was empty again. She didn't even feel broken anymore. She felt numb. As if her feelings had left her too.

When he first started coming late at nights she felt desperate and angry. But when time passed and this whole thing repeated itself she got used to it. She thought that being patient is the best solution. He would eventually understand he's hurting her and he would come back. He would eventually be able to complete his promise to her. That he'll change, and that he'll never leave her side again.

Her eyes fell on the frame she had put on the bedside table. The photo was showing two teenagers with their school uniforms on. They were laughing widely as they stared at each other and they were holding hands. She reminisced their school days. How he was her first love, her first heartbreak...How he told her that he thought he loved her, even though he didn't know what love is. How he chose her. Were his words just empty words? It was as if he was another man now...

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door closing. He had just come home. Everynight, when he opened the door of their room she pretended to be asleep. But right now she could not bring herself to close her eyes. It was as if her body was finally rebelling to her mind. Did she have enough? Would this be the day? The day she would break free from this prison, his prison...

Strangely he did not open the door to their room. As if he was hesitating. She finally got up, standed in front of the door and hesitated. She knew he was on the other side of the door contemplating if he would enter the room.

She heard his steps walking away from her. Would he leave again? Would he never come back to their home from now on? Was he tired of this too?

She caught him by surprise when she was the one who opened the door. He turned his head and watched his wife staring at him, tears forming in her eyes. She looked as beautiful as ever, with her black night gown, but so hurt. As if she was pleading him. "Don't go." It was as if he could hear her thoughts.

He run to her and he hugged her. She finally broke down. She tried to close her eyes, feel his embrace, but the only thing she could concentrate on was the female scent lingering all over him. She could not do it anymore. She was just so tired.

She removed his hands from her body and she stared at him.
"I can't..." She finally said.
"Don't." He caught her off.

"Where were you Luhan?"
"I...I was-" Silence.
"You can't answer. Again. Okay then, I'll tell you where you were. You finished work, and you went to this stupid bar again. Of course, you weren't alone. You had company, and a good one, right? She was with you...right?" Sojin was now crying hard. He tried to wipe away her tears but she slapped his hands away.
"Don't touch me."

He pushed her on the wall. Hands over her head.

"Don't push me away." He begged.
"Let me go!" She said, fighting him. It was their first physical fight.

Something was different today. It felt like their break up was close. The dark sky and heavy clouds foreshadowed it. He suddenly slammed his lips on hers. Was he kissing her with the lips he was kissing another woman some minutes before? She pushed him away. Her feet could not hold her now. She fell hard on the floor. He looked at her with big terrified eyes. He was the reason his wife, his partner of life was hurting like this. Her eyes were telling him so many things. They spoke all of the things she could not bring herself to tell him. He was a monster. His feet moved on their own as they were getting far from her.

"What? Are you leaving now?" She shouted. He turned his face to her and opened the door.
"The only thing left to do is to go Luhan. If you go now, then we're over." Her voice barely escaped . The one thing she wanted to say but was so afraid to. If she gave him the choice to go, she was afraid he would.
"I'll give us a chance Luhan. If you stay, then I'll forget everything and we'll start over. Do you want to start over? We'll leave everything to the past." She said with hope in her eyes.
"If you stay you'll have to stop meeting her. You'll have to stop meeting all of them. We'll form a family Luhan..." She whispered the last phrase.
"But if you go...If you go don't you dare come back to me. If you go you'll have to forget me forever. You'll never see me before you again."

He took a step to her, then he stepped back again. How could he go to her? How could he be so selfish? How could he only think of himself again? She was fragile, no- she was broken because of him. As much as he wanted to run to her and hug her, he knew that it wasn't the right thing to do. How could she be so nice to him till the end?

That's how it has always been. He was the bad one, and she was an angel. Even now, when he had reached her to her limits. When she could not take more of his infidelity, of his habits and his ego, even now she offered to take him back. She offered to forget everything and start over. But could he do it? He loved his wife, that he knew of since the beginning. She was an integral part of him. He had hurt her a million times, but he always came back to her.

The thing with Luhan is that he always let his flows take over him. Sojin knew he could never be completely tamed, completely hers, but she always accepted him back. And now he knew she was dead serious. If he went out the door, she would be gone. He would never see her again and it scared him. He would not have a home and a wife to come back to. He would be alone.

As much as he hated the idea of being away from her, he could not go back. For once in his life he had to think of her and not of himself. Sojin deserved the whole universe, she deserved to be happy. And he could not make her happy. That he knew of.

"I'm sorry Sojin." He tried to pick the right words to say. He wanted to explain, he wanted to stop her tears. But the best thing he could do to her was to say nothing. She would hate him, but he deserved it.

"Goodbye." Those were his last words to her as he walked out the door. She broke down crying. He heard her sobbing and a tear fell from his eyes.

"I'm so sorry Sojin. You have no idea...I'm hurting seeing you like this. I should have never come back to you. I should have let you go since the first time you cried because of me. You were so perfect and I did not deserve you. I'm gonna miss you so much..."

And like that the red thread that united them was cut in half.
