Reflection
Captured Prey
He pulled up in a dark blue sports car. It is sleek and low to the ground. He opened the door and stepped out. He looked so handsome that she stopped breathing for a second, taking him in with wide eyes. He walked up to her, smile on his lips, took her hand and pulled her up gently. He looked down at her shoes and chuckled. “Someone is taller tonight.” He looked at her again. “And even prettier than before.” This comment made her blush slightly and look down. He lifted her chin and looked into her brown eyes and noticed she had flecks of gold mixed with the rich brown. “It’s true, don’t hide.” She looked at him and could see a smile in his eyes that matched the one on his lips.
“Shall we go?” he grabbed her hand and walked her to the car, opened her door and helped her settle into her seat. Reaching across her body, he makes sure she is buckled in. As he buckles her in, she can smell him. Damn he smells good, better than when she first met him. He gently closed her door and walked around to his side and got in. He started the car and the radio comes on. A smile touches her lips when she realized that he is listening to one of his own albums. She closed her eyes as she listened to his soft, velvety voice. He looked like he wanted to smile but has worked hard to keep it happening.
“Your music, your voice is like a warm blanket that wraps me in warmth and calms me down. Thank you for making beautiful music,” she says to him softly. His response is the smile he had been fighting. “Let’s go eat!” He pulled away from the curb.
He drives very well and after a while he looks at her. “Look, I’m sorry about this morning. I don’t usually stop there for coffee but I was nearby for a meeting. I don’t know which of us was more shocked to see the other. I wasn’t going to say anything but you looked so adorable, trying to hide from me.” He had a smile on his face, but his words were sincere.
“Clearly I was more shocked, I was banging my head on the counter after you left.” She was embarrassed and giggled slightly. Her giggle makes him smile even wider, glad she had forgiven him, sort of anyway. He looked away and kept his eyes on the road the rest of the way, letting her enjoy the music. She had her eyes closed and sang under her breath.
He pulled up in front of the place he has picked. It was cozy and he wouldn’t be noticed as easily here. He got out and walked around to let her out. He took her hand and helped her out. They start to walk in and she looks at their reflections in the window. He was tall and graceful, his waist slim and his arms and legs well-muscled, despite his slight frame. She, on the other hand, is chubbier than she would like, her tummy stuck out and ruined the draping line of the shirt. Her jeans are snug and her arms are plump. She has a slight double chin and she wears her hair down to take away some of the fullness in her face. Of all the women he could be with, he’s with
