Dysfunction Isn't Love

Baekhyun’s book gets published four months later, a month after his actual deadline.

Juyeon knew from the beginning that he would finish it, anyway. Baekhyun always talks as if he’s going to go broke for failing to publish a book before his deadline but he manages to push through every time, and Juyeon is always there to tell him I told you so. Well, not this time anyway.

She purchases it on a whim after work one day, seeing the dark blue book displayed in front of a bookstore she passes on her way home. Dark blue was always her favorite color, not to mention the gold-colored fonts that made the title was too attractive to pass. She remembers something about Baekhyun wanting to make the cover orange but she guesses she heard wrong, then.

THE YOUNG AND DYSFUNCTIONAL, it read, and Juyeon makes a note to read that as soon as she gets home. She is temporarily and shamelessly living with Jihye, despite all the protests Jihye had. She knew deep down Jihye was more than happy to take her in.

Juyeon’s things are actually still at Baekhyun’s and she figures she’d move them out later when Baekhyun is finished with his book—meaning sometime soon. She’d thought that the least she could do was to not bother Baekhyun when he’s working on his book. She misses her cat, too, but there was no way that Baekhyun would ever give his baby away.

When she gets home, Jihye is already waiting for her with dinner served. They eat dinner and Jihye notices the book peeking out of Juyeon’s bag and ever since she noticed it, Jihye turns weird, and Juyeon assures Jihye that she didn’t buy it because of Baekhyun. She tells her best friend that she simply bought it because it is a well-designed book. At the end of her explanation, Juyeon starts to wonder if she is convincing Jihye or convincing herself.

Staying mum, Jihye just pushes Juyeon into her room and stuffs some snacks onto Juyeon’s hands after they finished dinner and tells Juyeon to finish the book ASAP so she could get it over with. Juyeon laughs and proceeds to make herself comfortable before finally opening the book. She didn’t even bother to read the back cover of the book to know that it's going to be a good book.

Juyeon is actually excited. Everyone knows Baekhyun is a good writer, his last book had been about a romantic dystopian-college life and has been one of Juyeon's favorite books. He has a way with words that Juyeon just loves, the way he depicts a normal situation and paints it into the beginning of a thousand perhaps.

Reading his stories had always been a refreshing experience, because Baekhyun always manages to keep his stories a secret from Juyeon until it is actually published.

Chapter 2: The ending was so sudden but it makes sense. One think they never told you about dating an author is that THEY JUST AT VERBAL CONVERSATION but really good at potraying their feelings into words. The thing about Baekhyun, I could relate to him on an emotional level. He probably thinks he's being obvious about his love to Juyeon but well, we don't realize the things we do until someone pointed it out. This is a well wirtten story, and sometimes not all relationships are perfect sometimes they get too disfunctional to your liking because that's what the reality of a relationship is. In the end, conversation makes everything works. I wish Baekhyun would reach out to her to be honest because as fragile as Juyeon is all she need is the assurance from Baekhyun himself.

Chapter 2: Thank you for the authors note! Its nice to see what the author's thoughts of the story because readers tend to have all sorts of interpretations of a story. So thanks for clarifying what happened :) Honestly, I doubted Baekhyun's feelings for her for a while, especially when Juyeon said he'd never said the three words to her before. I didn't think he'd cheat but I did question the extent of his feelings for her. It seemed like he always expected her to understand him and give him his own space when he wrote and be okay when he took out his frustrations on her which wasn't fair at all. I can totally understand Juyeon's insecurities in the relationship which is partly Baekhyun's fault for not reassuring his feelings for her and letting her know that he only has eyes for her. Its easy to think that you don't have to tell your partner how you feel because you expect them to know from your actions and by the fact that you're with them in the first place but all you have to do is communicate with them and tell them too. He knew she was already feeling guilty about Taeyeon so if he had helped her overcome that then things could have been better. I don't think it was right of her to think he was cheating either and using the past against him but I guess she was just so insecure of herself and wasn't thinking right. Some time away from each other did them good tbh and the ending was nice, although I wish Baekhyun reached out to her earlier after the breakup instead of letting the two of them hurt for longer. Another great story that made my heart hurt haha but thank you!

Chapter 2: hey, you forgot to put one tag : angst/slightangst because I cry T^T not only at the part where Juyeon broke down but also the part where she got the text message from Baek in which he finally confessed he loves her.

Ok, actually one of the reason why I love reading is because I want to feel and experience lot of other emotion. For this story... I really really can feel the emotion of someone being unsure with herself, the feeling of being not good enough for their love one. The doubtful feeling and fear in a relationship is quite severe thus making their relationship quite a toxic.

I like Baekhyun's character in this story. Well, this is just from my own opinion. I think Baekhyun never thought his relationship was unhealthy because he always knows that he loves her and so does her and for that it is fine to him as long as they're together. He actually cares about her alot. He knows her favourite colour, how she favours tea over coffee and her habits too. I said this is because, in this story, it is from Juyeon's pov and from her pov, I see that Baek is always busy with his writing. So, we cannot see much how attentive Baek is beside the post-it note on her forehead telling her to eat.

Lastly, this two shots story is a very beautiful piece. So heart for you~ ♡♡♡
