Its been what? 18 years ago, Since I last stepped here in Korea after my parents got an annulment, when mother found out my father’s infidelity with his secretary and the secretary is having a baby, and seems to be my half brother. It was painful memory for me in such a young age. Our supposed to be happy vacation during the holidays in one of my grandmother’s old house turned into a total nightmare. 

I was parking at the rest stop, fueling up my car while leaning against the door with an iced americano coffee in my left hand as the heartbreaking scene replies on my mind

Flashback: December 1997 in Guri, Gyeonggi-do

The busy Jin is running around the christmas tree as her father put it up for her the moment they arrived from Seoul. She was happy to spend the holidays with her family since she often stay with a nanny or in her halmoni’s house because her parents are always busy with their works, her father is a great film director while her mother is a producer, they gradually worked in one project and during the time that they see each other everyday because work love blossomed between them, they got married and a year after Jin was born. it was indeed a picture perfect of an ideal family for the first few years but things turned out from what they didn’t expect, Jin’s father had an affair, it was a speculation before not until it was proven when Jin’s mother caught him

It was their fourth day of stay as Jin’s father toured her around the farm when her mother dashed out to his father hit him everywhere she can the moment they arrived inside the house, Jin almost fell from his father’s arms and his father was furious of the sudden attack from his wife.

He put Jin down and told her to go to his mother-in-law as he will confront her mother. the little girl obliged as she run to her halmoni and sat on her lap. her halmoni is crying as she feels sorry for her daughter and to her beloved granddaughter who she afraid will loose a perfect family

She can hear the endless shouting and cursing of her mother to his father from the kitchen. even thought she is young and doesn’t understand the real reason, she knows something is wrong, she knows that her mother’s wails are because of her unbearable pain, she can now hear plates breaking and kitchen wares are tossed making a loud clung against the floor and with that she run from her halmoni’s embrace and run to the kitchen seeing her mother holding a knife pointing it towards her cheating husband; She is shouting and asking her husband why did he do that to her despite of the love she gave him, while her father trying to calm her down.

“Appa…Eomma…” Little Jin called her parents attention

Her parents looked at her with sadness in their eyes, Because they felt disappointed because their daughter is seeing them in this shameful situation, As her mother is still diverted her attention to Jin. His father grabbed the opportunity to get the knife out of her hands so she can’t do anything to harm herself or anyone in the house. They are both fighting and not letting go until her mother's energy got drained and just let go as she slides down the ground and sobbed. She caught him cheating on her all this time. He was stupid to leave his phone and the mistress called and telling him she gave birth to a baby boy. It felt like a pail of ice cold water was poured into her making her whole world froze for a moment and couldn’t comprehend if she was just having a nightmare that she can wake up from or totally not. Her halmoni run to her daughter to consoled her wounded heart

And with that they didn’t noticed Jin run outside the house, Away from everybody because she realized that this will be the last time that she can call her family a complete one. She run from the woods as she was stepping on the cold snow, all she want is get away from her father, he didn’t deserved her love especially from her mother. She run wherever her feet took her until she reached deep into the woods. she was lost, she couldn’t tell where is the right path back to their home. she was now feeling scared as its getting darker and the snow is getting heavier

But no one came to rescue her and it made her sank down on the ground as she felt numb because of the coldness, her young body couldn’t stand the temperature even though she was dressed properly for the winter. she hugged herself and rubbed her arms to keep her warm but its no use, and what makes it worse as she heard lou
