PROLOGUE
“No!” The harsh shout echoed through the house. “You won’t touch her.” The woman growled as she stood protectively over her seven-year-old daughter.
“Then you will die with her.”
The blows came from nowhere and everywhere, hitting hard and cutting deep. Blood welled and bruises formed as she fell to the ground, red staining the wooden floors.
The girl watched as her mother fell and the life slowly drained from her body before settling her eyes on the man before her.
An oily blackness swarmed her eyes and the man stumbled, blood pouring from his mouth as he choked on it. Blisters erupted over his skin and red poured from his eyes and ears as he crumpled to the ground.
The girl crouched beside her mother as she breathed her final breaths.
“Mina, my daughter, promise me, no matter what happens from now onwards, stay true to yourself.”
I’m sorry mother.
