Uncle Johnny
[on hiatus] A New CEO, New Rules
Chapter 1
Uncle Johnny
Today was my first time to give a speech at the meeting to the people in charge of the company, also known as the board members and the stock owners.
“From now on, that is, if my uncle does not regain his health, I will be taking his place as the owner and the CEO of this company. In order to prove him and yourselves that I’m capable of these positions my uncle has asked me to come up with ideas to “push the company forward”. I have quite a few, unorthodox, ideas. I will be proposing them to you soon, so until then yoroshiku onegaishimassu!” I bowed a little. When I finished my short speech I was greeted with worried faces.
What if they do not accept my ideas…? Well, they had to. I was officially in charge now. Even though I begged my uncle to find someone else, he assured me that I could do this job so there was no turning back now.
“Hi! uncle Johnny, why did you want to meet me?” I greeted him as I entered his office.
“Here have a seat.” He ushered me towards his own seat behind the desk. I was appalled but followed his orders. What was going on?
“How does it feel to be sitting there?” he had asked me.
“Quite comfy, I might say.” I answered jokingly. After all this leather chair was really comfortable.
“Good, good… because that will be your place from now on.” He said with a strict smile.
“Excuse me?” Did I hear that right? “Uncle you can’t be serious!”
“I am as serious as I ever will be. You know that I am getting quiet old. I need to retire so you will take my place as my only blood-related relative.”
“But I am not the only one. There is-“
He cut me off. “You know you are the only one I will ever trust.”
“But… I am inexperienced. I never had such a big position before and you are not old.” I argued.
“I am older than I look, sweetheart. You went to college in the States and double majored in business and management. You are suitable for it I am sure.”
I tried to oppose but he did not let me talk, “You will give your speech next week so prepare for it. The times are changing and even though I do not want to admit it, I am getting old and so is my style,” he chuckled, “so with your young and bright ideas I want you to push the company forward.”
