Chapter Two
HauntingsJi Hyo sat on the couch, watching as the man who had just moved into her apartment opened some of the boxes and began to unpack them. He stayed mostly silent except for the occasional muttering to himself about what he could change about the apartment to open up the space. Ji Hyo tilted her head as the man bent down and picked up a couple of dumbbells before setting them on the floor.
"Ah, you're too muscular, look at you. Just looking at your arms is making me angry," Ji Hyo said, a frown on her face. She got up and walked over to the man, bending down slightly to look at his face. He turned to the side to look at one of the boxes in the corner. Ji Hyo noticed that he had a sharp nose and jawline, and scowled.
"You're probably gonna be a harder one to scare away, aren't you? That's okay, I'm pretty much an ace at making people move out of here. I'll bet that I can have you out of here by the end of the month," Ji Hyo bragged and poked the top of his arm. "There's no way you'll be able to last longer than that. I once scared one of the people who tried to live here so badly that he moved out in three days!" Ji Hyo laughed before she walked in front of the box that the man was currently unpacking. She crouched down, her hands on her knees and her face turned towards his.
"Tell you what, I'll make you a deal, okay? I'll give you the rest of today and all of tonight where I won't do anything, right? But tomorrow, that's when I'll start my mission of kicking you out," Ji Hyo said, ing her hand out towards him and moving it up and down, as if tempting him with the offer. "Deal? I didn't even offer this to the last guy who was here. I'll give you three seconds to decide," Ji Hyo said, before slowly nodding her head three times to indicate that she had counted it out. The man did nothing except continue unpacking his belongings. Ji Hyo sighed. She knew he couldn't see or hear her; she was making sure that he couldn't. When she had first been turned into a ghost, she had no clue that she could be seen or heard. There had apparently been a month in the time between when she had "died" and when she had woken up as a "ghost." She had only discovered that she was a ghost when she had tried to grab onto her door handle and her hand passed completely through the door. She was terrified and curious at the same time, so when she was walking down the hallway, running her hand through the walls as she walked, she was completely caught off guard when the little boy that lived in the apartment above her called out her name. She jumped and turned to face him, only to see that he had a confused expression on his face, before he shrugged and started to walk away, muttering about he had thought he saw "that cute lady who lived below him."
Ji Hyo looked back up at the man before her and really looked. He looked extremely tired; he had dark circles under his eyes and he kept blinking, as if he were trying to stay awake. She sighed again. Why do I have to be so nice all the time? I should be rewarded for not just quitting and becoming an evil spirit that'll haunt this entire complex.
She stood, and put her outstretched hand on her hip, watching as the man took out some folded bedclothes and started walking towards the bedroom. She followed him into the bedroom and watched as he made the bed. "Since I know you can't hear me, I'll just assume that you're smart and would have taken my deal had you heard it. Tomorrow, I'll start my mission. Tonight, you can sleep," Ji Hyo watched as he flopped down on the bed the moment he made it. She rolled her eyes and walked back out, deciding to watch the sunset before going to sleep herself. She leaned her elbow on the windowsill when she got to it, watching as the sky slowly turned into a fire; the reds and oranges dancing together, rising into the light blue that reached the top of the sky and falling into the deep purple that went down below her eyeline. In that moment, Ji Hyo really wished she could leave this building.
"No," Ji Hyo said, shaking herself, "I need to stop wishing and start looking for answers."
With that, Ji Hyo rose up and started to go down to the first floor, but stopped.
"How am I to look for answers when I don't even know where to start!" she asked herself, stomping her feet and floating over to the couch to flop down on it. She looked down and saw that one of the dumbbells was near her foot, so she picked it up and looked at it. She supposed she could hide this first. Maybe in one of the kitchen cabinets? Ji Hyo got up and moved to the kitched, placing the dumbbell in the cabinet under the sink. She smiled; this would be perfect. Slowly walking back to the couch, Ji Hyo yawned and stretched her arms above her head before bending over and touching her toes. Laying down, Ji Hyo decided that she would try to persuade one of the neighborhood cats to come inside to visit her. Ji Hyo had noticed early on that cats could see her even when she was invisible and they didn't mind her one bit; even the ones whom she had fed when she was still alive still remembered her and stayed close around the building now that she couldn't step very far outside.
Throwing her elbow over her eyes, Ji Hyo settled down for sleep, hoping her dreams would be peaceful.
She was walking down an alleyway. It was dark around her because the lights on the poles in front and behind her were broken. She wasn't afraid of the dark though, and she wasn't afraid of the alley. Did she know this place?
Something rattled beside her and she stopped, looking over to where the sound was. She stooped down and started calling for something before getting back up and walking back in the direction she was already going in. Something scraped the ground behind her and she quickly turned around. What could that have been? It sounded heavier than what is usually around here. Deciding to walk faster, she began to keep going about her way. Something brushed her back, but she didn't look at what it was, she just began to run. Something grabbed her shoulder and she opened , ready to shout, her hands up in a defensive position—
A sudden door closing woke Ji Hyo up, her head shooting up to look in front of her where the bedroom was. The man had came out, his hair tousled, his eyes half closed as he headed towards the kitchen. He grabbed a water and an orange and leaned against the counter to peel it. He put the peelings on the counter before eating the orange. He kept closing his eyes and becoming still every few seconds when he was eating. When he was done, he scraped the peelings into his palm and threw them away. Ji Hyo snorted as she watched him take a drink of water; he kept drinking then pausing. How could someone fall asleep drinking water? Although, she had no room to talk, she once fell asleep while watering one of the small plants she used to have and drowned it completely. The water had flowed over the pot and into the floor.
"What's this doing here?" the man asked, holding up his dumbbell. Ji Hyo began to laugh at the expression on his face. He looked so confused! Ji Hyo wiped her eyes.
"Ah, you should see your face! It's so funny. I wonder what I should do next?" she wondered to herself. The man hummed in the kitched and Ji Hyo looked up, then looked at him again.
He was staring directly at her.
"Who are you?" the man asked.
I hate writing characters meeting each other cause I always feel that I do it so slowly. This story will probably progress slowly. Mainly because I have no clue how to write lmao. Sorry the chapter's kinda short. Thank you to everyone who subscribed and commented, you make me want to write more! Also, if you see any mistakes or have any questions, tell me/ask me!
