Kyungsoo huffed as he jogged from the parking lot to the church where his old college buddy was currently getting married in. He would’ve been there on time to see all the guests and to take pictures with the groom and blushing bride but he was caught in traffic for nearly two hours due to a truck turning over on the highway and all he could do was pray for the traffic to lift up and to be able to hold his pee in longer. In retrospect, drinking a large coffee before driving for nearly an hour was not a good idea but he needed the caffiene and he wasn’t expecting the drive to be elongated either.

The man ran up the stairs to the church two steps at a time and the moment he entered the building, he embarked on a search for the bathroom to finally relieve himself. He exited the men’s bathroom with a sigh of relief and he patted his slightly damp hands on his suit. He checked the time and gasped when he saw that he was already a full hour late and he hurriedly rushed into the church hall.

He carefully opened the door so that the large wooden door’s hinges wouldn’t let out a squeak. Everyone was focused on the priest speaking about marriage so they didn’t notice the latecomer at all. He decided to forgo searching for his friends and settled in the last pew on the groom’s side where one lone man sat.

Kyungsoo let out a soft cough and he curiously looked at the man he was sitting next to. He had to admit, he was very handsome. His skin was golden, lips pink and plush, eyes bright and twinkling with his hair styled up nicely. He saw that he was holding the wedding program and he shyly tapped the man on the arm because he wanted to see what they were up to.

The man turned his head at the sensation of soft tapping and blinked. Kyungsoo meekly pointed to the beige cardstock in his hands and he handed it over with a small smile.

“Thank you,” Kyungsoo whispered.

He scanned the program and listened closely to what the priest was saying. He deeply exhaled when he realized that he was still going on about marriage. He handed the program back to the man and started to get comfy in the hard wooden pews because he knew that he was going to be there for a while.

As the wedding carried on, Jongin couldn’t help but stare at his best friend standing at the altar who was getting married right then and there. He used to joke around with him saying that he would be the last to get married in their group of friends but he turned out to be the first to commit.

Suddenly, he felt a weight on his shoulder and he turned his head to see that the shorter man had fallen asleep on him. He stared in disbelief and gently nudged his head with his shoulder. “Hey, wake up,” he whispered loudly.

Kyungsoo was fast asleep and no matter how many times he was prodded or shaken, he would not wake up. Jongin huffed and crossed his arms over his chest, turning his attention back to the altar. He better not drool on my suit, was the only thought that ran across his mind.

The wedding had ended an hour and a half later and the guests were all outside for the bouquet toss and pictures. Kyungsoo was still sleeping deeply and Jongin let out a sigh of exasperation because his arm was starting to feel numb and he really needed to pee.

“Wake up,” he said as he poked the sleeping man’s cheek a few times.

Kyungsoo finally stirred and he slowly sat up while rubbing his face. “What time is it?” He mumbled.

Jongin scoffed and abruptly got up from his seat, making the other man’s head fall to the side. “Nice to see you awake, Sleeping Beauty. The wedding’s over and it’s time for the reception. Hope you don’t fall asleep while driving there.”

He gave him one last look before he marched towards the door while massaging his arm. Kyungsoo stretched his arms above his head and yawned loudly, “What’s his problem?”

The bells of the church started to ring and there were loud cheers coming from outside. His eyes flew open at the sudden noise and he looked around the hall with wide eyes. “ ,” he cursed as he got up from his seat and ran outside.

Kyungsoo safely made it to the hotel the reception was being held after waking up and the first thing he did was greet the groom and bride.

“Taemin, Soojung, congrats on getting married!” He shouted as he engulfed the two in a warm hug.

Soojung giggled and Taemin chuckled. The man pulled away and side eyed him. “Thanks, man. Hey, we didn’t get any pictures with you before the wedding. What gives?”

Kyungsoo cleared his throat as his cheeks turned pink. “Sorry, I was stuck in traffic while I was making my way here. A truck got into an accident on the highway and I had to wait for nearly two hours but I’m here now so let’s take some pictures!”

The couple smiled at him, glad he made it to their wedding safe and sound, and took plenty of pictures with him to make up for the ones they were supposed to take in the church.

During the photo session, Kyungsoo saw the man he fell asleep on during the ceremony and he gasped. He leaned in to Taemin and asked, “Hey, who’s that guy over there?”

“Huh? Who? Oh, that’s Jongin. You know him?” Taemin said in surprise.

“No, no, I just met him today. Jongin, right?”

Taemin gave him a knowing look and elbowed in him the side. “Kyungsoo, you dog. I have to admit though, you have a pretty good eye for guys.”

Kyungsoo looked at him in horror. “What?! No, I’m not interested in him! I mean, he is pretty good looking but that’s beside the point! I just—okay, this is gonna sound really bad but I fell asleep on him during the wedding and I just wanted to know his name so I could apologize.”

“You fell asleep? What the , Kyungsoo!” Taemin frowned.

“Wait, hear me out! I had a really long day yesterday at work yesterday. The kids were just really hyper and they kept bouncing off the walls and it took me forever to get them to settle down. Then when I got home, I had to help my dad build this closet he bought from IKEA and we didn’t finish until it was nearly one in the morning so I’m pretty tired,” Kyungsoo quickly explained.

The groom still had a frown on his face but he threw an arm around Kyungsoo’s arms. “Alright, I’ll forgive for falling asleep. But between you and me, I thought I was about to knock out any second up there. The guy just kept going on and on about marriage and it was nice but it was way too long.”

Kyungsoo laughed and he saw his friends waving at him from the other side of the room. “Hey, I see Jongdae and them. See you around?”

“See you ‘round. Keep Jongdae away from the open bar. You know how he is with free booze.”

The man snorted and he nodded. He stuffed his hands into his pockets and made his way over to his friends. They all happily greeted him and Chanyeol a glass of wine into his hands.

“Dude, where were you? We were saving a seat for you,” Baekhyun said with a slight scowl.

Kyungsoo took a sip of his drink and he sheepishly grinned from the rim of the glass. “Sorry, I ran late and sat in the back. I was going to find you guys but I didn’t want anyone to know that I was late so I sat in the last row.”

“At least you’re here now.” Junmyeon grinned as he raised his glass.

Kyungsoo smiled and he took another sip of his drink as he looked around the venue. He had to admit, Soojung had really nice taste in decor. As he was busy admiring the decorations, he coincidentally found Jongin and the man was staring at him hard. He jumped in surprise and quickly turned his attention back to his friends.

He prayed that the man he slept on stayed on his side of the room and ignored him but instead, he was approached by the man.

“Excuse me, can we talk?” A soft, deep voice came from behind.

Kyungsoo’s friends all froze at the arrival of the stranger and Minseok nudged him. “Hey, I think he’s looking for you.”

“Yes, thank you,” Kyungsoo stiffly said. He mechanically turned around and forced a smile on his face. The stranger nodded at the veranda and the two made their way to the open space.

Once they were outside, Kyungsoo speedily apologized. “I am so so sorry for falling asleep on you. I didn’t mean to but I was just feeling really tired and I couldn’t help myself and I’m really sorry,” he rambled as he ran a hand through his hair.

Jongin looked at him in surprise and he gently set his glass of champagne on the marble balustrade. “Actually, that’s not why I brought you out here. I wanted to apologize to you. I felt bad for telling you off like an when you woke up and it’s been eating at me this entire time. I normally don’t say stuff like that but I’ve been having a hard time lately so I snapped at you for no good reason. I’m really sorry about that.”

Kyungsoo looked at the taller man as if he had a third eye on his forehead and he pinched the bridge of his nose. “Wait, so you pulled me out here because you felt bad for saying something rude to me earlier?”

Jongin’s cheeks tinted pink and he nodded. Kyungsoo burst into laughter and he quickly quieted down at the look of disbelief on the man’s face. “I-I’m so sorry. To be honest, I don’t even remember what you said to me. I was still waking up and I didn’t really register anything I heard.”

“O-Oh, that’s good. Now I feel slightly better.” Jongin wobbly smiled.

“Hey, if anything I should be the one feeling bad because I fell asleep on you. I totally didn’t mean to but the caffeine just totally wore off and I was crashing. Did I drool on you or anything?”

“Nope.”

“Thank god,” Kyungsoo sighed in relief. He then stuck out a hand and smiled. “By the way, I’m Kyungsoo.”

Jongin slipped his hand into the outstretched one and gave a firm shake. “Jongin.”

Kyungsoo grinned. “I know.”

“You do?”

The shorter man took a sip of his drink and nodded. He his lips and set the glass down on the railing. “I asked Taemin about you earlier. He thought I was hitting on you but that’s impossible.”

He saw the way Jongin’s face fell and he gasped. “No no, that’s not what I meant! I mean, you are a very handsome guy and I wouldn’t mind dating someone like you—only if you swing that way—but I only asked because I wanted to apologize to you. Wait, did I just say that I wanted to date you? Because I don’t but—okay, I think I’m going to shut my mouth now.”

Jongin burst into giggles and Kyungsoo swore it was like music to his ears. The taller man walked over to the balustrade and leaned against it. He grabbed his flute of champagne and swirled the liquid around, eyes never leaving the golden drink.

“You know,” he started, “I wouldn’t mind going out on a date with you.”

Kyungsoo slowly turned his head and he stared at him with wide eyes. “What?”

“Like an apology date,” Jongin quickly added.

Kyungsoo sure was glad he didn’t get his hope up because that would’ve been embarrassing. “Oh.”

“Unless you just want it to be a date date?”

The shorter man’s hand slipped and he nearly knocked his glass over the edge when Jongin suggested an actual date. He nervously laughed as he set the cup back down carefully. “Are you sure? I might fall asleep on you again,” he joked.

Jongin leaned forward and turned his head to get a better look at Kyungsoo. “Not like it would be the first time that happened.” He smirked as he back.

Kyungsoo’s breath hitched at the sight and he mumbled, “Shut up.”

Jongin softly chuckled and he arched an eyebrow. “So?”

Kyungsoo’s cheeks flared and he shyly said, “Yes.”

A breath was released and Jongin looked at him with a boyish grin. “Awesome. I will be looking forward to it.”

“Yeah. We should probably go back inside before my friends come out thinking you’ve murdered me.”

Jongin laughed and he grabbed his glass. “Sounds good.”

The two quickly exchanged numbers and headed back inside. The reception ended around midnight and Jongin quickly caught Kyungsoo before he headed towards the elevator. He whispered a date, time, and location for their date into his ear and soon disappeared.

A week later, Kyungsoo stepped into a quaint bakery and took a seat across from Jongin who had arrived earlier. The taller man pushed a cup towards him and smirked, “Can’t have you falling asleep on me.”

The two hit it off immediately and found themselves getting married after three years of dating. The two are standing in front of the altar, holding each other’s hands, and Jongin jokes, “Glad you didn’t fall asleep this time.”

Kyungsoo frowns at his soon-to-be husband. “You’ll never let me live that down, will you?”

“Never.” Jongin smiles as he takes a step closer to him.

“You may now kiss the groom.”

The two meet halfway and press their lips against each other’s. The guests start to cheer and the bells of the church start to ring. They pull apart and Jongin leaned his forehead against Kyungsoo’s.

“I love you,” he whispered.

“I love you too. But just remember, it was me falling asleep on you that led to us getting married today.”

“I know but I’m still gonna tease you about it.”

“I want a divorce.”

“Shut up,” Jongin laughed and he pressed another kiss against Kyungsoo’s lips.
