              The heat from the fire was comforting. Nichkhun made sure not to sit too close. His distance was just perfect. He looked over the dancing flames enticed. The others were sitting or chatting. Perhaps this is why they thought of him as the grandpa. He didn’t mind. He liked this. It was relaxing, it was calming, it eased his soul.

                “Hyung, we’re heading off to bed. Do you want more wood?” Chansung asked as he crouched down beside him.

                “Hm – oh sure. Please.” He smiled fondly. The maknae returned it warmly and set to his task. He closed his eyes and leaned back in his chair. Soon the fire was bigger than before. He swirled his glass of wine gently. It had probably become warm. He set it down beside him. Sighing deeply he watched the others stroll to the tents. They looked so relaxed. This camping trip really was a good idea. Even though they weren’t totally alone, the privacy was just what he needed. He noticed Taecyeon still seated on a log to his right. “Ne, Taecyeon, aren’t you tired?” He asked.

                The usually boisterous and loud fellow giant only shrugged. Nichkhun couldn’t help but smile. “What?” Taecyeon chuckled.

                “Nothing.” He returned his gaze to the fire. “You’re just cute.”

                “Huh?!”

                Nichkhun’s soft laughter competed with the sounds of the cracking fire. “Come here and sit with me if you’re going to stay. Come and talk to me…”

                Taecyeon bit his lower lip as he walked over. He sat in the chair next to him with a heavy sigh. “You don’t seem to really want to talk.”

                Nichkhun turned his head and looked at him. “Silly cat…” He mumbled and reached out into the cold to hold the other’s hand. It felt so cold. “What’s wrong?” He asked softly and massaged Taecyeon’s fingers with his own. “You’re so cold…” He grumbled. He reluctantly rose from his seat and plopped himself on Taecyeon. He shivered at first but the warmth soon passed between them.

                “Just…tired.” Taecyeon said. His cooler hands slid under his blanketed body and over his clothes to rest on his stomach. Nichkhun closed his eyes and leaned back. “Completely tired…”

                “Then head to bed.” Nichkhun couldn’t help but tease.

                Taecyeon shook his head and placed a small kiss to his neck. “I wanna stay with you, right here, just like this.”

                They fell into a serene silence, their gazes on the fire. Nichkhun began to play with Taecyeon’s fingers, feeling his skin and flesh finally warming. Yet, his mind was elsewhere. Warm lips touched the back of his neck and he turned his head slightly. “I feel like I’ve been somewhere else all day.” He admitted quietly. “Like, we’re not supposed to be here, we’re supposed to be doing something.”

                “I know…” Taecyeon sighed. “I want to relax but I feel like I shouldn’t.”

                Nichkhun pressed their lips together slowly. He closed his eyes and held that touch. Taecyeon’s hold on him tightened ever so slightly. The soft touch grew more needy for a little while. Nichkhun inched back and brushed his nose against Taecyeon’s cheek. “Just being like this…feels like a luxury.”

                Taecyeon nodded, “feels good.”

                The others were still a bit rowdy. They were probably joking and making fun while they could. At some point Nichkhun poured them fresh, cool wine. Taecyeon loaded more wood onto the fire and they resumed their couple seating. Nichkhun felt like he could finally relax. “Chansung and Wooyoung said they wanted to try fishing tomorrow.”

                Taecyeon laughed, “of course. It’s a good time to try.”

                Nichkhun took a sip from his glass and leaned back against the firm body. Above them the stars flickered. It really was surreal now that he focussed on the area they were in. “We should go camping more often.”

                Taecyeon grinned against his cheek as he kissed it, “I want it to be just us next time.”

                A small blush flourished over his cheeks. “Sounds like it would be nice.”

                “Ne? Maybe we could do the canoeing like you wanted to.” Taecyeon suggested.

                He nodded and continued drinking from his glass. He would really like to venture alone with Taecyeon on some form of backpacking trip to anywhere. It didn’t matter where. He smiled to himself and wove his and Taecyeon’s fingers together. “Where would you want to go?”

                Taecyeon pressed him even closer. “If it’s with you, anywhere,” He said and kissed him once more. “Just as long as I get to hold you like this again.”

                “Mm, finally, you’re acting normal.”

                Taecyeon snickered. “Is that what you were waiting for, Khunnie?”

                “Mmhmm…” He groaned against his lips. “I want you to be happy.”

                Taecyeon ran his fingers down the side of his face gently. His skin was finally warm. It made Nichkhun’s heart swell. “I’m very happy.”

                Nichkhun reached up and held his chin. “Good, ‘cause I am too.”

                They stayed and chatted together until the fire went out completely. For a few minutes they watched the stars and laughed together. They promised each other that they would make plans for the trip. “I’m kind of excited for it.”

                Nichkhun pinched his cheek, “what? ‘Kind of’, Taecyeon?”

                Taecyeon rubbed his cheek as they headed for the small cabins. “Alright, alright, I’m very excited.”

                Nichkhun nodded, satisfied. “I wanna sit by the fire with you again tomorrow night.” He said as he tugged Taecyeon back towards him. “Maybe watch the stars longer…”

                Taecyeon held his neck and kissed him deeply. He didn’t want it to end. Even if they didn’t have another night like this was, it would remain in his memories. The heat of the fire, the way it lit up Taecyeon’s eyes. Everything. “I like the sounds of that…” Taecyeon said as he pulled him inside. “Night Khunnie baby.”

                “Taecyeon…” He whined. “Don’t end the night like that.” He pleaded.

                Taecyeon only laughed and came to sit next to him once he was settled. “Okay, would you join me for another night by the fire tomorrow, Nichkhun?”

                There he went blushing again. He pulled Taecyeon down. “We already promised we would…”

                “I know, but I thought I’d ask you formally.”

                “I’d love to sit by the fire with you tomorrow, Taecyeon.” He said after a while. Taecyeon nodded and gave him a good night kiss. He couldn’t help feeling giddy. He was looking forward to the next evening.
