Invert Luck

Description

Graded diaries demand either subpar writings or secret confessions. These things weren't really meant for anyone but the teacher to criticize, yet here lies a student delving into the secrets of a fellow classmate's thoughts for laughs. However, when the tides turn the other way round, who's really the one to laugh?

Foreword

“Give me that!”

A voice, full of struggle and dismay, echoed along the outskirts of their school. Behind them was an old forgotten wishing well.

"Dear Diary, it's been so long since I’ve written on you. How long? Why it was so long that my Ethics notebook could beat you in the face and tell you that he’s way thicker- not implying a dirty joke or anything because the school might reprimand me- but yes, my feelings, thoughts, everything that comes with this have been school property as of now. What a stupid gimmick-” The reader stopped reading in the midst of running to catch some air.

“Give it back to me, please,” said the owner of the diary they’ve been feuding about.

After noticing the running figure slowly catching up, the thief decided to widen the distance some more, and the whole running fiasco started once again for what seemed like minutes.

“Dear Diary-" the reader stopped, "Seriously, is this what girls typically write?" then continued, "I ate lunch with you know who-" A pause was made and a string of insults followed, "You know who? As in Voldemort? What the hell is this? This is LAME." A roll of eyes were given.

"I’m going to find another one. Something worth the trouble and worth the reading that would embarrass the hell out of you.” The reader flipped through the pages of the school diary, “You know for a diary, aren’t you supposed to write your deepest darkest secrets, or at least something along the lines of ‘My crush is this and that’?”

The owner was now looking at the diary thief utterly confused. All that chasing wasn't going to stop anything, so the words were allowed to flow between the silence as a sign of defeat.

“Dear Diary,

I don’t know how I’m supposed to tell this to anyone but there’s something that's been bugging me for the past few weeks. Something that I couldn’t and wouldn’t really want share to anyone, so let this be our little secret. To be more straightforward about this feeling, I'd like to say that I think I’m in love? I know that it's not something for me to feel. I mean this isn’t right, right? I'm rambling, but isn't it really weird to feel that way specially when it's towards my best friend?”

The reading stopped at the last utter of the words “best friend” because the owner may have tackled the unbelievable reader of someone's private property on the ground. There lying face to face with no other words to say. Both were in a state of shock, their eyes full of confusion meeting each other. There was silence, but the silence didn’t linger- well, not until she spoke.

“Kim Namjoon, you’re in love with me?” He gulps.
