He lifted his glass, and the fizzy golden liquid danced up the sides of his glass. The loud countdown had come to an end, but the noise around them still buzzed endlessly even though the two were secluded from the rest.  

"Here's to—, " he began but was immediately interrupted by the fidgeting girl in front of him.

"Wait!" she shot, her hands flying to the sides of her head. "I don't know what I want to cheer for!" 

He raised an eyebrow. "So? It's not like this is going to affect anything. Just toast for the new year." He lifted up his glass to initiate another toast, but her hand instantly caught his. 

"It matters to me," she mumbled as she wiped the champagne hat dripped down her knuckles due to her earlier outburst. "I," she paused, fumbling with the ends of her dress. "I really want to try my best this year." 

He crossed his legs and leaned back as he rested his hand on his knee. "So what do you want to toast to? You better hurry; it won't be 12 o'clock forever." 

She frowned and her brows knitted together. "If I knew, we wouldn't be having this problem." 

"My god, you're a piece of work," he jokingly replied which was quickly followed by a second of silence.

"Rude," she muttered. 

"I was joking," he chuckled while he placed his hand on her shoulder. "Okay, think. What did you say you wanted to this year?" 

"I don't know," she grumbled, "That I want to try my very best?" 

"Then," he added before switching his grip from her shoulder to her free hand. "I think we've found our answer." With a cheesy, lop-sided grin, he raised his glass in the air and stared into her eyes. 

"Here's to our best chances."

Hey guys! I know I've said I would be more active during the summer but we've all seen how that worked out lmao. But it's a new year and I thought I would quickly whip up something for the holidays. This was originally written for christmas but ended up being for new years but i'm a lazy and actually never finished this even though I started two years ago but anywayyyyyyyyyyyyy
