When They Become Friends

Seyoung wasn't much of a person to care. Yeah, she did care for some people like her family... or kinda family, but she didn't like to interfere in other people's problems. Besides, she was a whole mess of problems by herself and she really couldn't be bothered by other people's. Never once had she tried to solve anyone else's problem. Then she met Somi.

Most of the things which entered into Seyoung's life left or will eventually leave in the future. She was stuck in an impasse after her parent's death and she decided to shut everyone out. Even the people, she most cared about. She's always been calculative and hestiant to do anything. She wanted to change, she really did.

She took her phone and decided she needed to get involved.

Its time to take a babystep forward.

Kai hadn't spoken to anyone for a whole day. Not even Kyungsoo. Stuck inside his room doing homework and studying, it relieved him. He didn't have to be anyone. He was just a guy simply studying. His mom had knocked on the front door a couple times, but Kai had blasted his music on. He did his homework and without realizing it, his hand moved to the beat. Then his foot moved. Then his body stopped entirely. No.

He quickly got back to studying. Monday was going to start and he was going to have to see everyone. It wasn't like he didn't like the people. It was just that it was hard to always play the part. What would he say? Say the opposite? He was happy, right?

The front door opened. His mom had come home. That was strange, she never left work early.

"Mom-"

Kim Chi, Kai's mom smiled, "Hey kiddo. I thought I just skip work today. Just today. Hahahahaha- I got a letter."

"A letter?"

Chi's smile turned sour and a little upset, but she still tried to maintain her smile. "It's... um... from your dad."

Kai was angry. Kai never got angry at anyone. The man was an exception. He blamed everything on that man. But a part of him wanted to know what his father had to say. He took a deep breath and reluctantly took the letter. "Get some rest, mom." Kai noticed there was a little tear on the flap, but the letter was unread. His mom had been too scared to open it.

He went back into his room and stared at the letter, thinking of every possible reason to not open it. His phone rang saving him. He didn't care who it was. He just needed a reason to not read the letter. "Hello?"

It was Seyoung.

"Hello? Kai? Can you meet me at the movies? Sehun had somewhere he needed to go so I'm all alone." Seyoung had been apart of Kai's new life and he found this a good opportunity to just get out of being Jongin. What Kai also noticed about Seyoung was she kept dark secrets, just like him. It takes a liar to catch a liar.

"Hello? Somi? Can you meet me at the movies? Sehun had somewhere he needed to go so I'm all alone."

Kai and Somi both raced to the movies to find Seyoung. The thing is... Seyoung wasn't there. The movie theater that she wanted them to go to was a theatre that only showed old movies, which meant only a few people were there. Somi and Kai were basically alone. Together.

Somi's eyes widened when she saw Kai sitting on a movie seat. "Kai, have you seen-" Seyoung. It clicked in her head. "...this movie?" Seyoung had given her a chance. It would've been a waste not to accept it.

Kai turned his head to see one of the last person Kai wanted to see right now, but the first person Jongin wanted to see. "I have."

"It's a sad movie. I'd rather prefer a happy movie," Somi stated.

Kai stayed silent. Somi took a seat next to him and watched as his eyes were glued to the screen. She wasn't much of a movie fan, she really prefer k-dramas with her groups, but she tolerated it because she was with Kai. "Somi," Kai started, "you think the movie's boring?"

"Just a little." Or a lot. "He never gets the girl in the end. He needs to open up so she could reach him. If he's not willing to put himself out there, here's no way he could be happy. That was his downfall."

"So you just don't like the male protagonist?"

Somi shook her head, "No, I don't like the female protagonist. She needed to try harder. He's in trouble and she just gave up on helping him." Somi just realized what she said. Maybe she shouldn't have given up on Kai. "Kai, do you like the movie?"

"No. I don't like the male protagonist."

Somi laughed, "Maybe we should watch another movie?"

Kai stared deeply into Somi's eyes. "I never really liked movies. I don't like watching other people's lives." Kai stood up and offered his hand, "Shall we?"

"What are we doing?"

"Making our own movie."

"Where are we going?" Somi asked.

Kai looked around, trying to find his favorite resturant. "It should be right there!"

Somi read the sign and her face flushed. "Greatest Pleasures?" On the front of the building were posters of half- girls with their ual expressions. Did Kai really just take her to a really shop? She thought he said that they were going to make their own movie... Oh no.

Somi hit him with her bag and ran away. "JONGIN, YOU'RE TERRIBLE! I'm not that type of girl! AHHHHHHHH."

Kai looked confused. He looked up from the map that he grabbed from the bus stop see the resturant- or not. . Well, this was definitely not the restaurant. Things really change since the last time he's been here for a long time Kai choked. How the hell was he going to explain it to Somi?

Usually if this happened, he wouldn't have chased after the girl. It would've been too troublesome. Why the hell was he running? Why was it so urgent to him that he had explain this to Somi? What made Somi so different from everyone else?

"Somi, I found you." Somi tried her best to get away from him. He wasn't the person she expected him to be. HE CHANGED.

Kai grabbed her wrist. "Somi, I have to explain!"

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! YOU ERT!"

"It changed into a shop. I swear, I thought it was a noodle place."

Somi finally calmed down, squinting her eyes in suspicion she asked, "So, you're not a ert?"

Kai smirked. Who knows what was going in his head. Somi looked a little frightened by the look on his face and Kai just chuckled.

Kai still had her wrist in his hand and walked her over to the place his favorite resturant had moved too.

"Kai."

"Mm?"

"Kai, let's be friends? I wasn't sure if we were. You never seem to talk to me and you completely ignored me."

Kai stopped and released her wrist. "Sure." He didn't say anything after that and Somi didn't know what to do. She panicked and wrapped her arms around him.

"SODOKU!... um... I mean, sorry. There was a bug on your... back?" Somi patted Kai's back a little and laughed nervously.

Kai turned around and laughed. Somi released her arms which let Kai to pout a little.

"Already?"

"Huh?"

"Nevermind." Ding. Kai's Nokia sang and he checked the message from Kyungsoo. "Uh... Listen Somi, I have to go see someone."

Somi was disappointed that she couldn't hang out with Kai more but he seemed to have some urgent business. Stil, she couldn't help but sulk.

"Aw, okay." She pouted and held her head down.

Haha. Cute. Hmm... I guess hyung won't mind if I take her with me. Kai thought to himself.

"You wanna tag along."

"REALLY? IS THAT OKAY? I mean yes but I don't want to be a burd-"

Kai chortled and dragged her to the bus stop, onto the bus, and then, into the hospital.

"Hyung, you missed me a lot, right? Man, you couldn't even go a day without me."

"Shut up, Jongin. Did you bring me som-," Kyungsoo stopped in the middle of his sentence when he noticed Somi's head popping out. He mouthed the words "what is that"  to Kai.

"Oh yeah. This is my friend Somi." Somi's aura gleamed with excitement to hear the title given upon her by Kai. Friend.

Good job, Somi. Today was a success. You the best, girl! Somi mentally patted herself on the back.

"And... Somi," Kai went over to Kyungsoo and dramatically held his hands and gazed into his eyes, "This is my one and only love, Kyungsoo."

Oh. Ohhhhhh. OH! Kai's gay. Somi smiled thinking about the event that went on before. Of course Kai isn't a ert. What was she thinking. So Kai likes this boy. Kyungsoo even calls him by his real name. Hehe. HAHA. HOHOHOHOHO. I ship it.

Somi stuck out her hand in a rapid motion, sending a wave of energy across the room. "Hi, Kyungsoo! I'm Somi."

Kyungsoo was a little confused and a little scared of this grudge-like looking girl. This was the first time Kai brought anyone along with him. Kyungsoo didn't mind. He might not like going outside but he enjoyed company. Even if it's an odd girl like Somi. Kyungsoo pushed Kai back to greet Somi, thinking to himself. Jongin must like her.

"Wow! You're really handsome." Somi couldn't help but blurt out her thoughts, as she stared straight into Kyungsoo's soul through her waterfall of bangs. Seriously, Somi has the Chewbacca of bangs. While Kyungsoo was amused by her comment, Kai was taken aback, feeling a little envious. Psh. I'm handsome too.

He split his two friends apart, sitting next to Kyungsoo on the bed. Somi felt like a third wheel, disrupting the couple's alone time together.

To both Kai's and Kyungsoo's relief, the entire time they hung out at the hospital, Somi didn't question Kyungsoo about his case. She conversed with them as if they've been friends for years. It was all informal talk with jokes and laughter. At school, Kai was usually the one who brightened up the room with chatter and cheer but this time, the spotlight in the hospital room shone on Somi. Maybe only Kai noticed, but Somi just wanted to make everyone around her relaxed and happy. Kai smiled at the thought of having a fun person like her around but soon after, he frowned. He delibrately ignored her for his own selfish reasons. Does he even deserve to become friends with Somi? Does Somi even like him, Jongin? No. Somi knew Jongin. She's called out his name several times. He noticed but he ignored it to avoid confrontation with his past.

That's when Kai, or rather Jongin, decided that he didn't care. He didn't care whether Somi knew anything about him or whether she wanted to be friends with Kai and not Jongin. There was something about Somi that he just needed to know about and to do that, he needed to be closer with her. No. He WANTED to be closer with her.

Kai drifted back into reality, seeing Somi attempting to impress Kyungsoo with her dinosaur impressions.

"So, this is my T-Rex impression. GYARRAHYAH. And this is my Pterodactyl impression. KEEGHACYA."

Yeah... She's weird.

To be continued...
