He isn't one to give up easily. He trains hard to show his Father and everyone that he can succeed in his goals. He has big dreams supported by his unlimited ambition, always striving to become the best. He works hard, sometimes to the point of needing to be taken to the emergency room to recover. He pushes the others to their limits so they will be the best on stage, most often working in tandem with the leader.
Strange and full of contrasts
Most people find him rather intimidating and sometimes hard to get along with. He never gives up or gives in, believing hard work and dedication will help them leap that hurdle that other groups like Exo have left behind. He can be harsh and demanding one moment and in the next he is handing out water or juice to the others and asking if they are good to continue. It's like he realizes they are different than he and he can't be as hard on them as he is on himself. That is where the contrasting behavior comes in to play. He seems like a hard guy to like but he stops himself and becomes softer to balance himself out. He cares for them when he sees he has been too harsh with his words or during training.
He can be egotistical and aggressive but the balance to that side of his personality is that he is extremely noble and passionate, often caring for others in silent, unassuming ways, like making sure there are plenty of towels after practice or refreshments. He will even go buy something before shows and leave it in the dorm for the members so they will be happy when they reach the program instead of nervous. He bought a Wii once with his pay before their debut stage and it made the others excited and they forgot their nerves for a while. This also shows his contrasting behavior for the members. He just silently does things for them and doesn't take the credit most times leaving them to wonder where it came from.
Unexpected
He is a difficult partner, but his unexpected reactions, spontaneous behavior and sharp wit make him a popular choice for variety programs and interviews. Most people don't realize he has a funny side because he does take his career so seriously, but he really likes to laugh, and sometimes, unintentionally, he makes others laugh with his subtle little jokes. It's not in your face funny but his straight kind-of cool personality delivering that kind of humor really startles people into laughter once they realize he is joking. He is a very quick thinker so the responses are fast coming from his lips. His spontaneous actions would be along the lines of acting cute suddenly, surprising the others, or the fact that he will participate in the dancing of girl group dances. Most people don't expect cute behavior from him so it totally shocks them when he does it, but it is rare for him to break out and do those things. It's the only time the rest of the group teases him for his gross cutie faces.
He may be a bit set in his ways and inflexible but the right words from a seonbae can turn him into a puppy vying for attention. He is not always liked, but often admired for his work ethic and manners. An ingenious strategist, a master game player, he is often called the ace of the group when it comes to technical repairs, competitions and even planning escape routs for the members after events so they can get away safely. He thinks of s as sometimes annoying but altogether important and and an integral part of his life as they journey together, like a family. Though he likes his solitude he will always try to be there for the others and oftentimes surprise them with events or special little things to boost their morale. He is the one most likely to nag the manager behind closed doors until the guys get a well deserved treat if they've worked hard.

He can be cocky once he is confident in their performance. A little vain, he actively will look for the camera and preen for it, maybe give a wink and a saucy smirk. Only when he knows the others have the dance down will he do this though. He is always concentrating hard for the first few stages then he will loosen up and have fun with it. His serious expression is always what gets him into trouble with the CEO and Director of the company. He will get scolded lightly by the manager for this but the manager knows it will be gone by the next few performances anyway so he is less strict about it than the Director.
Hwan will grudgingly give fan service and that makes it all the more exciting for the fans when he finally does it. He garners lots of screams now and then.
BACKGROUND:
Hwan lived his whole life in Seoul, being the oldest out of three boys he was set to a high standard by his parents that could give any one an ulcer from the stress. Hwan thrives on pressure, it makes him work harder for his goals, so the burden wasn't much of a burden for him growing up. His Father instructed his Mother that he had to have lessons in English and business management and left her to raise him while he worked his way up the corporate ladder. He expected his son to go into business management as a career. Hwan learned early what sacrifice was and that if you want to succeed you have to be willing to give it your all.
He took music lessons in violin and piano from the age of seven on and also began his studies of the English language at an international institute after school from 9 pm to midnight up until he began high school.
Hwan played soccer in junior high school until his Father found out about it and had him drop off the team due to it interfering with his studies. He was the first in all his classes until he reached high school.
He was scouted on the street by a Model agency and modeled clothing for two years during high school. That is when he also signed up for music class and heard the senior band playing at the school festival. He fell in love with music and found he could sing exceptionally well. He won the schools talent show that year and began side lessons for vocal training.
His teacher suggested he try out for a company when he found out how much Hwan loved to sing and the rest is history, he was signed as a trainee and spent three years honing his skills to debut this year.
Because of this, his Father disowned him and told the family to not contact him again.
