personality | carly is a relatively quiet girl, whose presence will not be known unless she speaks up or someone manages to see her. her friends tend to get the shock of their lives when they turn around and find her peering over their shoulder at what they're doing. according to them, she doesn't have footsteps, so they would never know if she was nearby. but even with her tendency to listen more than speak, carly has a pretty snarky and sarcastic side to her. sometimes so much so that she can seem rude to those who don't know her well. also, she has a knack for coming up with puns and lame jokes, much like her introduction. her name carly sounds a lot like curry and thought it would be fun to add that in her greeting rather than the mundane greetings that most idols use nowadays. carly is also shy, and usually will not take the first step in approaching others. she will speak softly to the people she's just met, but once she gets close to someone, her voice tends to be much louder.
carly is extremely lazy. she often procrastinates, and is a very heavy sleeper - she wouldn't wake up even if there was an earthquake. there's only one fool-proof way to wake her up, which is to tickle her awake. but if she's not in the mood, she can be quite aggressive when being woken up in this manner. carly is also not very good at expressing herself. along side being rather quiet, she finds it difficult to express her emotions, especially love and care, to the people around her. she feels very awkward in proclaiming her love to others, but would show that she really does care in her actions. sometimes when she cares for someone, what she says might come out harsher than intended. for example, if someone was sick, she would say "you're gonna get yourself even more sick, sit down." rather than telling them in a gentle voice that he or she might aggrevate his or her sickness by moving about.

background | carly remi cha was born in dapu, china to a korean father and chinese mother. her father had met her mother during their university days when he had chosen to be an international scholar, studying in china. like all love stories go, they fell in love and her father decided to become a permanent resident in china where they started a family of two girls and a boy. carly has an older twin sister (caryl) and an older brother (cendrick) of four years. when carly was five, the family moved over to canada where her parents had been given a job offer. liking the environment in canada, they began to settle down there and became permanent residents. carly and her siblings are of chinese nationality.
because she has parents from two different countries, both are eager for their children to speak their mother tongues. since all three children were in china for the first few years of their lives, chinese is their first language. and because of them staying in canada, english is their second language. their mother only understands basic korean, so the only time they speak korean is with their father and hence are not so fluent in the language. their father had always been enthusiastic in sharing about his home country with his children, and while showing them a video on korean culture one day, caryl had stumbled upon a kpop video, namely shinee's replay. they had loved the song and since then, started listening to more and more kpop songs.
from young, carly had always seemed to have some sort of interest in dance - she always loved watching others dance, and would try to mimick the dances. seeing this, her parents decided to send all the cha siblings to a dance school when carly was seven. she has been dancing since then. as time passed, she realised how much passion she had in dancing, and also performing. she always looked forward to dance concerts where she could showcase her skills. upon telling this to caryl, her sister suggested that maybe she should try being an idol. she could dance, perform and constantly showcase her skills to the world. it sounded like a good idea and when she asked her parents about it, they were supportive of her and encouraged her to go for the sm auditions in vancouver. she went once in 2010 but had failed the final round. she tried again in 2011 and that was when she was officially recruited into sm entertainment.
