Our Mobile Android / iOS App fundraiser is now online

If you guys followed my last blog post, we were approached by some investors to help fund our projects like the Android / iOS mobile app with the condition that we change the Asianfanfics name to something that's not so niched. In the end, we decided to strike out on our own and fundraise the app ourselves. The fundraiser is now open and the fundraising page with further details on how much we've raised so far can be accessed at http://www.asianfanfics.com/shopping/fundraiser. You can also go directly to the purchase page at http://www.asianfanfics.com/shopping/.

Even though it is a fundraiser and I know that many of you would gladly donate for the sake of donating, I still wanted to give something in return. To participate in the fundraiser, you can purchase points for use in your account. I'm also rolling out something new with every purchase: AFF Gold Status. This FAQ entry explains what Gold Status is but it basically allows me to provide people with features I couldn't give to everyone before because either it is too costly or we do not have the server resources. The feature list for Gold status noted in the FAQ will grow over time but there are a ton of features that I'd be able to do now that I wasn't able to do before.

You'll also get limited time only badges for participating in this fundraiser. Namely, these are the Charter Member badge and the App Founder badge. The badges are being designed right now but, rest assured, you'll get them!

One of our members crunched the numbers and provided an estimate in her blog for what a mobile app will cost at http://www.asianfanfics.com/blog/view/813204. We're going to aim for $20,000 to start. I'd personally like to show those investors that our community can be strong without them and with any luck, we'll have a shiny new mobile app by the end of next year.

At some point I was thinking that asianfanfics needs an app, I was even ready to help by contacting you and seeing if you were okay with me creating the android app, unfortunately, I'm a last year software engineering student and I have a 4/6months internship starting from February (I'm looking for an android app subject because that's what I want to specialize in) so I'm going to get really busy and I won't be able to help... :(

have you considered just wrapping the web version into an app but at the same time being able to shoot out push notifications? just like how slack does it? i mean i don't know what your plans are for the app but this would be the easier way. Plus it's nice to have the same ux when on pc and when on mobile. :)

Hi, I wanted to ask. If we've purchased a credit card (not from a bank, but from a shop), and we want to help the fundraiser and purchase points, how do we do that? Because I've checked out the purchase page, and it asked for a billing address, and I feel that it's unnecessary to enter the address if I own an unregistered card. Like, when I bought the card (from Woolworths), I just entered the amount I wanted. Do I have to enter the address?

uh...I wanted to ask, will there soon be a way to link our aff & rpr accounts together? that way it becomes convenient in switching from page to page. That is unless the servers can't handle the constant page transitions, which I have been realizing on rpr, with the constant slow loading.....

I have a question, Jason-nim. :) I want to participate in the fundraising but I don't have a credit card. Is there another way for people without it to purchase those points? Like for example, shipping them in cash or something?

I have a question or two. What if we want to help fund by buying more than once does that let the longevity of gold status actually go from lets say 2 years plus the added year?

And how to you know if you are a charter member will you be notified?
