Have Any of You Noticed...

...how some of these recent stories have strangely similar plots and characters to previously featured ones?

I'm not talking stories that have been featured months ago but literally a week or two ago. I just happened to go searching through certain tags and noticed that some people have even made the main character exactly the same. I'm all for getting inspiration from other stories, but when you completely take the idea and change a few things, that's not being very original. Please tell me I'm not the only one noticing this. I don't want to put anyone on blast, but seriously. COME ON...ladies.

Yes, there are many fics that are alike.
But I feel like if anyone ever copied they never manage becoming as good as the original.
So yes, being original is the best and after working so hard it will always pay off.

P.S. I love your gifs, makes it a whole lot entertaining to read.

I call it the Vulcan mind meld, since I think that maybe there is a commonality, and writers tend to follow some of the same themes. When I was working on my story I blogged about how one of the stories I was reading had some very similar themes to what I had included in my story. I was seriously starting to worry that my computer was being hacked! I had worked on my story for a good three to four months before I discovered this site. I simply took my story off my computer and worked on it off line, still I suspect I was hacked. Anyway, I prefer to try to use my imagination, because it seems pointless otherwise. The only thing I had happen where I was not conscious of it, was the name I thought of for a character in my next fic. Then it dawned on me that I had just read a story with a character with the same name. I think consciously, or unconsciously we may get influenced by each other, but yeah it is important to try and be creative, and original.

I've also noticed that. Although it is extremely unoriginal to simply copy off of someone else's work, it's hard to come up with a mindblowing storyline that no one has ever thought of/written about before. It's still odd somehow

I've noticed this myself O_O I'm not the most 'original' person out there, but I do try to make up my own plots and not steal from someone else. Having the same type of plot, doesn't nescessarily mean plagiarism, but if you copy the story word for word? Now that is plagiarism. Nothing is really original anymore though. I just read stories that interest me ^^

i've given up on originality - the thousands of stories on here and other fic sites (or even my local library lol) are bound to overlap. My question is whether there were any gems of well written ones? :D
I'm always a er for a good romeo-juliet type story or the prince-&-pauper stuff ^^

yes i noticed that. there are many baekyeol fics that are being featured. It's bizarre since a while ago 10080 was featured and this 27th October looks like it resembles 10080. I didn't read it since i don't support boysXboys fics. Well, i don't know..

Mmhmm. Plagiarism and unoriginality :( I personally think that these people see it as a chance of their own to get featured, or fanfiction famous. Unfortunately it *shouldn't* work out in their favor, and just gives people the idea that they aren't creative enough to come up with something of their own :/ it makes me sad to see those stories TT

Patterns. The most popular author uses asterisks to indicate thoughts and you can see her readers turned writers use them as well. Also the large font sized disclaimer. Yes, the 'you' or main oc tend to have the same personality o.o Do you think they notice it?

That's been happening for a while and most of it's because the featured fics are usually telling of what people generally like, so of course people will try to make fics similar to those fics in hope of being popular and being featured one day. However, what people don't realize is that the featured system doesn't really work that way most times and all these similar fics end up not being featured, usually.

Then there is also the fact that people generally like certain tropes/cliches, so stories that feature those, usually cater to a lot of young readers and thus, those stories usually get noticed more than say the stories the people generally spend more time on, are better written, the vocab is at a higher level, and have more interesting plots and characters.
