Personality : Emma can light up any room with vivacious personality and bright smile. She's a social butterfly and can strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Talking is her speciality. Thinking about what's she going to say before she begins speaking? Not so much. And she has quite the mouth on her, which leads to some amusing, snarky one-liners but is also capable of getting her into trouble espeically when her ability to express herself in Korean isn't it up to part just yet. She's mostly been impulsive and flies through life by the seat of her pants. She's a very in-the-moment kind of person and often finds herself taking a personal time out and backtracking to figure out how she ended up in her current situation. While she may regret some of her decisions, she's extremely happy that she doesn't go through life wondering "what if..."
When she's around her close friends, she acts extremely hyper and playful. She does a lot of skinship and has been known to abuse aegyo, especially around her sunbaes in order to have things her way when they're around. She likes playing games, having competed in sports since she was young, but she does have the habit of turning even the small game of rock, paper, scissors, into an all-out war. Whenever a game has phsical requirements, she's the first person to start pushing and shoving the other players without remorse (until after the game is over, anyway). She has a hard time admitting when she's done something wrong, but will always apologize to make the situation better (although the majority of her apologies are insincere).
Background : Emma is a second generation Korean-American. Both of her parents were born in the states after both sets of grand parents immigrated. She has some ties to her roots in Korea, but they were never very strong. They spoke English at home. Any Korean she learned was limited to the phrases her grandparents repeated the most when they came to visit. She led the average American life. She played field hockey in middle and high school and was also a noted member of the school chorus, participating in the All-State Choral Group (which she got into by placing in the top 20 for the state-wide auditions).
In 2008, she was dragged by friends to see the movie Speed Racer and she discovered actor Jung Jihoon... aka Rain. She instantly became obsessed with the Korean actor and singer. He became the gateway to K-pop for her. She spent hours on her computer, researching groups and watching videos and became inspired. She eventually told her parents that she wanted to be a Korean pop idol. They told her to wait until after high school, because they valued her education. After all, she would need a backup plan if that didn't happen. They mostly humored her. They didn't expect her to start practicing so much, attempting to learn how to dance in her bedroom and belting songs at just about every hour of the day. They also didn't expect her to load up on classes, do independent study, and attend summer school so she could graduate high school early.
For her 17th birthday, her parents allowed her to fly to Korea to attend several auditions for smaller companies, which all went well but some of the companies seemed sketchy or odd to her. She didn't have a good feeling about them. Then she discovered SM's weekly auditions. She went and was instantly liked by the staff. She then blew them away with her singing voice (though her dancing was rough, to say the least). She was cast and officially started training in January 2011.

Trainee Life : Trainee life was difficult for Emma mostly because, in addition to singing and dancing her off every day, she also had to break through the cultural and language barrier. She missed out becoming close to a lot of people in the beginning because she couldn't speak too much Korean (and she couldn't speak Mandarin beyond saying "ni hao", so being friends with the Chinese trainees was also out of the question). She would get teased and insulted and wouldn't realize it until she went home and asked Yulmin what everything meant. She then took to insulting everyone right back in English until they realized that they understood her. SM also put her on a strict diet. Being from America aka Fast Food Nation, she was a bit more heavy set than the other trainees when she first arrived. She hated that diet more than anything and constantly felt hungry but she kept at it, sometimes going overboard, until she managed to lose the 8kgs SM asked her to... and about 5kgs more after that.

Yoon Sohee | 20 | SM actress| Sohee, the first girl Emma met after entering SM, is Emma's best female friend - they even have friendship charms on their cell phones. When they get together, they just act dorky and carefree. They tell each other everything that's going on in their lives, even if they believe the other might not like it. Sohee helps Emma with her Korean and Emma in turn helps her a bit with her English.

Amber is BFFs with just about everyone. haha Amber is like Emma's cool big sister and helps her get through her spells of homesickness and cultural barriers. While still quick to discipline, Anna was the more free-spirited parent and was the first to take Emma's K-pop dream seriously. She mostly showed her support for her daughter by becoming a K-pop fan herself (her favorite group is 2pm and she constantly asks Emma if she's met them yet).
Elliot Seungyeon So | 18 | student | Elliot is Emma's nerdly little brother. He mostly spends his time locked up his room playing video games or chatting on reddit. They mostly bonded over their mutual love of The Big Bang Theory. They both annoy the hell out of each other, but love each other and will defend one another from outsiders (only they can make fun of each other). Elliot calls her "his obnoxiously preppy sister" and Emma claims she has "an antisocial doormat" for a brother. He's currently in college studying graphic design and hopes to be a video game designer.
Jin Yulmin | 36 | public defense attorney | A distant cousin that Emma stayed with she was a trainee. He taught her a lot about Korea and how to do things like make kimchi, navigate the Seoul subway, and use BB cream. He's a pretty hyper and happy guy. He has a long-term girlfriend named Kim Eunjae (she's a feminist who doesn't believe in marriage), but he also claims he's dating nine other wonderful women. Yes, he's one of SNSD's "uncle fans" and he would dump Eunjae for Yoona in a heartbeat. After Emma debuts, he goes out of his way to take care of her group. He often sends them food, cold medicine when someone's sick, clothes, and cute housewares for their dorm (yeah, it's a little creepy but he's very well-intentioned).
Rival : Soyou (Sistar)
Why you are rivals : Emma and Soyou appear on a variety show together. Soyou's already bummed out that Hyorin and Bora garner the most attention in their group and is trying to find a little extra attention for herself by doing individual activities, with the variety show being her first. However, Emma ends up attracting the most attention on the show and Soyou develops a serious dislike for her.
Scandal Requests? : Emma being accused of being a bully after netizens notice her doing several things such as mocking a sunbae on camera (on a reality show or something), getting too competitive and shoving someone really hard on a variety show, yelling at a fan who grabbed her hair at the airport, and laughing when another member gets hurt falling on stage (but she doesn't realize they're hurt until after she laughed)... or anything else you can think of.

Personality : Hoya comes off as cool, sly, and confident to the public but behind the scenes he's actually a bit awkward and a huge dork. Basically, he expresses himself better on stage than he does in person. He works hard at everything he does. In the end, Infinite and his group members are his first love and he'll always pick them over his other interests. He's very loyal and passionate. He's also easily flustered and isn't a fan of getting embarassed.
How you treat each other : Emma kind of gets away with pushing Hoya around a lot because he just wants to do his best to make her happy when they have time to be together without interruption. However, Hoya will sort of push Emma aside whenever his group is around and this infuriates her. They have a lot of arguments over it. Generally though, they're a good match and he treats her like a princess (even when she claims she doesn't want to be - she really does like getting spoiled by him). Emma likes buying Hoya gifts - anything from clothes to jewelry to new headphones. Everytime they meet she always ends up saying "look what I saw at the store and had to buy for you!"

Personality : Zico is a natural-born leader and has little regard for image or standards. While still being respectful, he manages to disregard rules and does what he wants. He's very mature and serious for someone his age, but still manages to have his goofy, derp-filled side. He has a good amount of self-esteem and isn't self-conscious about anything. He tells it like it is and doesn't play games. So needless to say, he doesn't beat around the bush when he gets to the point where he decides his feelings for Emma are worth pursuing.
How you treat each other : Zico and Emma's relationship isn't one full of skinship. They definitely connect more by talking than touching - and they are constantly talking (members of the group often ask them to hug or kiss to prove they are actually dating). If they don't have the chance to talk in person, they'll call. If they can't call, they'll text or email. They know each other and treat each other very well. It's a very relaxed, no-pressure kind of relationship.
