Background: Deng Mai Nhung was born the middle child of three sisters, each one year apart. Though they hailed from a small town, the sisters soon realized that they had dreams of stardom. Their parents, seeing their daughters talents and their own opportunity for socioeconomic advancement, supported their dreams and moved the family from the small town of Kon Tum to the bustling big city Hanoi. Though they all found work acting and singing, Mai was the least popular out of her sisters and received the least amount of work. She'd never admit to being jealous, however. Mai Nhung had an interest in K-pop and, after a period where her sisters were consistently holding down acting and modeling jobs and she wasn't, decided to seek out better opportunities for herself in the Korean industry. She auditioned for YG's open auditions in 2010 but wasn't selected for their training program. She spent the majority of the next year shopping around the various agencies that she knew of. She finally scored an audition with J.Tune Camp and she relocated to Seoul to begin training in late 2011. Her parents were not accepting of her decision to move to Korea and they had a huge falling out over it. She was effectively cut off from her family. However, a few months out from her debut she managed to rekindle a relationship with her older sister.

 

 

Personality: Mai Nhung has a cool, calm, chic exterior with a spit-fire personality. She's a wise-cracker, always having witty comments and observations to make. She's pretty smart and likes to show it off at times. She's a low-key attention seeker; she loves praise but won't make it obvious that she's going out of her way to get it and acts modest. She's friendly and caring, always nurturing those around her as best she can. However, she doesn't like to display her own feelings and weaknesses, which sometimes makes her come off as detatched and unemotional. Sometimes she can be mistaken for a downright when she fails to outwardly show her emotions. She only opens up completely with those she trusts and even then, it's for a very brief moment then she returns to acting like nothing happened.

How They Met: Mai Nhung had just recently moved to South Korea and began training at J.Tune. she wanted to work on her Korean and decided to have lunch at a small local restaurant instead of sticking to the safety of the J.Tune Camp cafeteria. Her Korean truly was awful and she struggled to communicate with the ahjumma who owned the restaurant. She was on the verge of giving up when Joohyeon came to the rescue and ordered for both of them. The two had lunch together and quickly became friends in spite of the language barrier.

How They Interact:They're both very hot and cold with each other. Mai Nhung will go from being playful one day to easily annoyed and aggravated with his presence the next. Buffy flip flops between greasy, chauvenistic pig and an absolute romantic. They're both witty and intelligent and like to exchange banter and keep each other on their toes.

They linger around BTS for a little while because the members all hit it off well, Jungkook and Diem especially.

How They Interact: Due to their busy schedules, Jungkook and Diem can mostly be found facetiming each other when they find themselves with some downtime on set or backstage. Jungkook is more reserved and Diem is very outgoing and outspoken, so most of their time spent together involves Diem getting overworked about something and Jungkook bringing her back down to earth.

Trainee Life/Background: When she first came to Korea, everything was difficult primarily due to the language and cultural barrier. In addition, some trainees and classmates bullied her simply because she was southeast Asian. In addition to mastering performing, she also had to conform to Korean norms and standards. She began bleaching her skin and losing weight to appear more beautiful to the Koreans. Over time, she became more assimilated, made friends, and things got easier in school and her social life. In the beginning, her isolation from her family caused her a lot of mental anguish, but as she learned that she could thrive perfectly well on her own this became less of a hinderance for her.
