Bachelorette | Chapter Application

The small baby wailed, her arms waved frantically as she was held by the nurse. The nurse struggled to hush the baby, she cooed and crooned yet it made no effect. The doctor paid no attention to the other nurse, he spoke to the baby's mother, his voice was wary yet he spoke reasonably.

"Are you sure that's what you want? This child may not get fostered, let alone adopted. It's rare, especially these days." His voice spoke calmly but his expression showed that he wanted the young girl to change her mind.

"Yes, it's what I want." She spoke bluntly, not even taking a second to think about it. She caught a glimpse of the now quiet baby, she diverted her eyesight.

The doctor sighed but nodded, he motioned for the nurse to leave the room. He followed suit, he looked back and saw the young girl's eyes fill with tears. He'd seen this too many times, too many reckless teenagers and too many orphaned babies.

The door closed with a soft click.

My eyes fluttered open, my cheeks were wet and so was my pillow. I took in a deep breath and shut my eyes tight.

Just another dream. Just another dream.

I opened my eyes and sat up, it was still dark, possibly around seven o'clock in the morning. I threw the covers off me and got off the bed. I saw my reflection, my hair stuck out at odd places, my face was puffy and red. I let my fingers take out the knots in my hair before I got up and went out of my room and downstairs.

I walked into the living room, even though it was still pretty dark I could see our family picture. Well it was the closest family I had, being the adopted one and all, at least I got along well with Sangmin oppa and Yeonhee unnie. They are older than me so they didn't really bother me much, though unnie was slightly irritating but I wasn't the only one who felt like that.

I continued to walk to the kitchen, my stomach wasn't growling for nothing, and surprisingly the light was on. I opened the door cautiously and I was greeted by a tired yet smiling face of Sangryul appa.

"Morning kiddo." He had his usual cup of coffee in his hand and he had the newspaper sprawled on the table.

"Mornin'." I replied without looking at him, I headed straight to the fridge. "Do we have any food?"

"I don't think so," he took a little look around. "Do you want pancakes? I'll make some."

i turned around, a grin plastered onto my face and I nodded vigorously. He chuckled and then we started chatting.

A few hours later ...

The air was sharp and cold, the pavement was still slightly damp due to the rain earlier on. The roads were empty, only the distant sound of cars could be heard but they were at least a mile or so away from where I was. The stars were shining brightly, clouds were threatening to cover the dark blue sky but luckily they didn't. The moon, half of what could be seen anyways, illuminated everything in a sort of pale-blue colour. I jogged on the spot, my hands stuffed into my jacket pockets and the lower part of my face hidden behind my thick brown scarf.

I needed to be outside, being in the house was suffocating, especially with Yeonhee down my throat lecturing me about studying. Luckily, I managed to get out before she could tell me to do my homework, Seunghyun appeared at the door at the right time. At least no one was worried, hopefully anyways.

"Aya, stop running so fast!" He panted as he slouched over, his hands on his knees.

I grinned, though he probably only saw my eyes. I pointed ahead of me, past the street lamp and into the park. He turned his head towards me, his left eyebrow raised.

"It's probably closed you know." He told me, regaining his posture, as he put his hood up. "Why are we out here anyways? It's like, what, -3 degrees?!"

"Stop complaining, I never told you to follow me." I peered at him, he stared back and then I shrugged. "Sorry, I'm not at my best mood right now."

"You're twelve, you're hormonal." When he said 'hormonal' he put his hands up and made air quotations.

"Shut up." I giggled and aimed to hit his shoulder but missed. He stepped back to avoid me but ended up falling on his back. As for me, I fell on top of him and my lips fell on top of his.

Our eyes widened as they met, I got up quickly and wrapped the fallen scarf around my face again. The heat went to my face but thanks to the scarf, he didn't see my flustered face.

"L-let's go home." He stuttered.

We walked home, but at a distance.

God, what the hell.

A few weeks later ...

"Danji neol saranghae ireokhe malhaetji ijekkeot junbihaetdeon mahneun mareul dwirohanchae~" I sang to H.O.T's song Candy as I walked passed the YG building.

I obviously earned bad looks from certain workers there since H.O.T was in SM entertainment. I didn't care though, I looked in through the double doors. What I could see was pretty dark, well the door was tinted so it wasn't a surprise. I squinted, trying to see past the tinted door.

I got caught of guard, as the door opened and it smacked me on the nose.

"Ouch." I clutched my nose and muttered incoherent words. I looked up at the person who opened the door and I saw a man with a faded cap on.

His face looked weary, he held coffee and it took him a few minutes to take notice of me. When he did notice he gave me a look, not a y look but more of a kid-get-lost type of look.

I stuck my tongue out at him and walked away. I started to sing Candy again, secretly hoping it would annoy him.

"Kid. You shouldn't sing that around here." I stopped walking and turned around to face him.

"Ahjussi, everyone is free to sing if they feel like it." I crossed my arms but realised my disrespectfulness instantly. "I-I'm ... Mianhamnida."

I bowed a 90o angle and proceeded to walk away.

"Fair point you got there and you don't have such a bad voice yourself. You should audition for a company or something." I turned around but he was gone already. The door lightly closing back into place confirmed he had gone back in.

Maybe I will ahjussi.

I walked home, whistling the song this time. I still got odd looks from everyone and one of them even yelled at me, at that point I shut up.
