Nickname: Violet is fine

Activeness: 8 or 9

I am Who I am

Character's name: Ae Hwiyeon

Nickname: Her brother calls her Airhead (In English, Ae Hwi sounds like Airhead)

Age: 19 in American terms

D.O.B: 7/12/93

Birthplace: Daejeon, South Korea

Hometown: Daejeon, South Korea (she still technically lives in Daejeon, but goes to school in Seoul)

Ethnicity: Korean

Languages: Fluent Korean, conversational English, basic Japanese (if it’s possible, since she’s studying languages in university, she’d also know basic Mandarin)

Occupation: Languages student at Seoul International University / Waitress in a restaurant in Seoul Central Mall

Weight: 47 kg

Height: 163 cm

I am not perfect

Personality: Hwiyeon is one of the more quiet girls on campus. She isn’t considered one of the ‘geeky ones,’ mostly because she worked hard to keep herself from having such a reputation. She has a few close friends, and those are the people she talks easily with. She often feels uncomfortable in a large group, as she is very introverted. She doesn’t like talking to new people unless she finds a way to make it feel official, like a job interview. She is very strict about her studies, which she must be if she hopes to get an official job where she can actually use her schooling.

She is a very hard worker, and very kind. In the classroom, she is willing to help a fellow classmate if they need help with something, and she is one of the go-to people if someone in her class missed a lecture and needs the notes. She tries to find the answer to any problem presented to her, and she doesn’t like giving up without a fight for it. She has an easy smile and bright eyes, and people seem to trust her with anything. She doesn’t like giving away someone’s trust in her, so she keeps almost any secret she’s presented with (unless it’s life-threatening, of course). Even though people trust her easily, she doesn’t trust others easily. She's a bit of a pushover, but by no means is she a doormat; she knows exactly when and how to stand up for herself, and she knows the difference between right and wrong.

Her twin brother brings out the more fun side of her. With him at her side, she is more willing to do and try new things, or things she wouldn’t normally do. With him, she laughs more and goofs around more. It’s like she undergoes a complete transformation from quiet, studious girl to mischievous, fun girl. Sometimes it is she who comes up with fun things to do, rather than her brother Sunghyun.

Likes:

·         When people ask if she is her twin brother (Well, she doesn’t exactly like it; it’s more like she’s amused by it)

·         Healthy food (she’s a health nut, much to her brother’s displeasure)

·         Driving the 1.5 hours to her sister’s apartment in Daejeon for holidays

·         Languages and linguistics

·         Her homemade popcorn (which her brother says tastes like Styrofoam)

·         Writing in the Japanese script; it makes her feel like she can read a secret language

·         Pushing herself to discover the limits of her new power (what she can do and such)

·         The colors blue and purple

·         Reading

·         The variety show Running Man (well, it’s more of an obsession)

·         Jeans and simple skirts

·         Dressing up

·         Being called ‘noona’ by her brother; it makes her feel old

·         Aegyo

·         Heels; she has no idea how people can stand in those things, much less fight

·         She waves hello and goodbye with both hands

·         She shifts her weight from foot to foot whenever she stands for an extended period of time

·         She throws out most junk food if it’s in the house for any period of time, unless it’s pepero; consequentially, her brother has resorted to hiding his stash of junk food

·         She stutters when nervous or anxious

·         She lives by/loves the saying, “mind over matter, brains over brawn”

·         She lives with her younger twin brother in an officetel (she is older by about an hour)

·         Her blood type is O negative

·         When she and her brother moved into their officetel, she managed to convince him to get a kitten. Thus, they have an adorable tortoiseshell kitten named Arashi (Japanese for ‘Storm’) living in their officetel ( the coloring is basically calico, but with no white)

·         She has never dated anyone, nor has she gone to any parties or bars

·         Even though she's 19, she still doesn't step on the cracks in the sidewalk

·         She was born at 11:08 at night, and her brother Sunghyun was born at 12:19 the next ‘morning,’ thus they have different birthdays even though they are twins

·         She is left-handed, an unusual trait in Koreans

·         After a few years of living in North Korea, she started developing eating problems, but with her siblings’ help she eventually overcame them. However, if she’s under severe stress, she still starts to revert a bit to her old behaviors

·         She loves to read anything sci-fi or fantasy related

·         National Geographic is her favorite magazine

·         She wears glasses and contacts interchangeably, as she has terrible eyesight

·         Whenever there was a twin themed day at school (like how there are themed days in the week leading up to American school dances) she and her brother would dress up as each other. Once they even swapped class schedules, and the teachers didn’t know they were sitting in the wrong seats until the day was almost over. (This was, of course, in elementary school when their voices sounded much more alike.)

·         Hwiyeon showed up for the interview that gave her her powers because she hated her job as a waitress and wanted a different job

·         She can't control her powers very well, but she doesn't let anybody know and she tries to keep them clamped down

·         She doesn’t know how to drive; she usually walks to school (Sunghyun can drive though)

·         Hwiyeon and Sunghyun have small, matching, coffee-colored birthmarks on their left wrists

Everything you need to know

Childhood/ background: Ae Hwiyeon was born six weeks premature as the second of three children on a cloudy July night in Daejeon, South Korea. One hour later, her twin brother came into the world, and the two, both screaming themselves hoarse, began their lives with a one-month stay in the hospital. They were both severely underweight for their ages, but Hwiyeon was even more so because her brother had taken more than his fair share of nutrients. After a month, they were released to go home to their parents and older sister, Myeseon, who was four years old at the time. Myeseon in particular was ecstatic at the thought of new dolls to play with and cuddle, but after a few close calls with one or both of the twins, she was forbidden from holding them unless a parent was nearby.

Hwiyeon spent the first eight years of her life in the same spacious ninth-floor apartment. She was a happy, active child, who always had energy to keep going and find new things to do. She spent long afternoons racing the halls with her best friend, Lee Yoonbi, and her brother, Sunghyun. Yoonbi lived on the opposite end of the floor’s hall, and often she’d sneak down the hall, knock on the Ae family’s door, and sprint into the opening elevator. If Hwiyeon was ready, she’d come barreling out of the apartment to try and catch her. The two spent most of their days roaming the apartment building or playing on the rather sizable lawn outside the first-floor doors. They went to the same elementary school together and, as they grew older, did homework together sitting on the steps leading to the back door of the school, facing the back lawn.

When Hwiyeon was nine years old, she received the news that her family was going to move. It had to do with her father’s job, which he was not allowed to reveal. She, Myeseon, and Sunghyun screamed, cried, threw fits, threatened to run away; but despite their efforts, on the morning of November 11th, they were bundled into the car to begin the four hour drive from Daejeon to Wonsan, North Korea. The whole way there, the children were silent, refusing to talk to their parents in a fit of childish rage. However, once their passports were stamped and they arrived on the doorstep of their new apartment building, all three tongues loosened and they began spouting questions. All they learned was that they were going to be in North Korea for an indeterminable amount of time, perhaps the rest of their lives.

Hwiyeon in particular found it difficult to adjust to life on the other side of the border. The North Koreans were much more rigid in their ways than the South Koreans. Her new teacher made her cry on the very first day of school by shouting at her, in front of a class of thirty-five students, to look at the blackboard and behave. She couldn’t understand the slang or the accents of her fellow students. Everyone saw her as the ‘weird new kid’ and nobody wanted to hang out with her. She cried nearly every night and sent emails back home to Yoonbi every day. She and Sunghyun grew infinitely closer through theese few years, as everyone thought he was pretty strange as well, considering how laid-back he was in personality. They defended each other from bullies and did homework together on the balcony of their apartment. Her twin was her one true friend, and she valued him above all else.

After about four years in North Korea, at the age of thirteen, everything that had been pressing down on Hwiyeon since the move finally broke her. Her sister Myeseon, now seventeen, had been much more popular in the initial few months and continued to rub it in her face. Her mother had died about a year after the move from leukemia, leaving three children motherless and forced to fend for themselves while their father was at work. Her father was almost never at home; he was always off working at his mysterious job that nobody could know about. Nearly every day for four years Hwiyeon had been made fun of, for everything from her strange accent to the slight pudge around her belly. As the years had progressed the taunting had grown worse and worse, finally ing to physical abuse one day after school on the rooftop. The straw that broke the camel’s back was the email from Yoonbi she opened after she came home that same day that read, “I’m sorry, but I don’t think we should be emailing anymore.”

Hwiyeon spiraled into a deep depression after this. She remembered every taunting word her classmates had thrown at her, everything they had said about her weight and inadequacy and, well, everything. Slowly, eating disordered behaviors began to crop up as she refused meals and spent her lunch breaks in the library, her classmates’ words ringing in her ears. Her grades started to slip and she missed whole classes, earning even more taunts from her classmates and reprimands from her teachers. While she wasn’t working as hard in the classroom, she was working doubly so in the pool for her swim team as a way to burn calories. All she wanted was for the taunts to stop, and she figured that slimming down her slightly pudgy belly was the best way to do this. By her fifteenth birthday, Hwiyeon had gained two inches in height, but dropped from 100 lbs to 84 lbs.

After two years of this, of watching Hwiyeon suffer and not being able to do anything, Myeseon and Sunghyun had had enough. They knew, at the root of everything, their father needed to take a little responsibility, as he had been pushing Hwiyeon to the side like a stack of junk mail, to be dealt with later. On a rare night where he was at home, Hwiyeon’s brother and sister cornered their father. They told him about Hwiyeon and everything that she had been through, forced him to listen for her inaudible cries. They told him that she needed a father. He began to cry and beg forgiveness from his children as the truth washed over him. Little did he know that Hwiyeon had been listening just outside the door. Tears also arose in her eyes, but instead of rushing into the room where her family was, she stood up, walked to her own room, and silently closed the door behind her.

The next day, a Saturday, things began to change around the small apartment. Myeseon and Sunghyun practically dragged Hwiyeon out of bed and sat with her for two hours at the breakfast table, encouraging her to eat a small muffin and apple. Afterward, her father walked up to the table. After being on the phone all night, he had managed to get a job transfer back to Daejeon and they were to leave in three weeks. Furthermore, Hwiyeon was to stay home with Sunghyun during these three weeks while Myeseon worked and their father settled things with his work. Sunghyun was to keep refeeding Hwiyeon.     Those three weeks were some of the most emotionally taxing for Hwiyeon. She thoroughly resisted food, and pushed Sunghyun away from her physically and emotionally. There were several days where Sunghyun almost had to tie her to the chair to make her eat. She screamed and broke down several times a day, especially at mealtimes, since she was required to consume almost 3000 calories a day. The only good part of these three weeks was that she didn’t have to go to school and face torment from her classmates.

In the months after they moved back to Daejeon, South Korea, things began to calm down again. Hwiyeon was eating on a normal basis thanks to Sunghyun, though at this point their relationship was more of a love-hate one (love that he saved her, hate that he saved her by forcing food down ). Her father was spending more time at home with her. Myeseon was at university, and the twins had returned to a normal school schedule. By her seventeenth birthday, Hwiyeon was cleared to stop her antidepressants, and she finished high school in the top twenty percent in her class. She and Sunghyun grew much closer, and soon were inseparable. The twins were both accepted into Seoul International University, one to study languages and one to study computer science, and they moved into an officetel together. They both got jobs and quickly made a few friends. Hwiyeon and her childhood friend Yoonbi found each other again and quickly repaired their friendship.

However, even though that chapter of Hwiyeon’s life had closed, references keep popping up. Whenever she gets stressed, she tends to forget to eat, and she is scared stiff of the popular kids at school. The rigidity of North Korea had instilled in her unrivaled study skills, and she still retains some of the accent.

Mother: Ae Keunghee| 47 at death (would be 53 now) | Tutor | Dead | Keunghee was a kind person, but often to the point of being overbearing. Sometimes she’d hound her kids to eat their vegetables, often sounding like a control freak, but she was just trying to keep her kids healthy. She always wanted the best for others, which is a part of why she took a job as a tutor. She loved being around people; she was one of the most sociable and easy-to-be-around people out there. She had several friends whom she met several times a week, often over coffee or in the gym. She was very fit, which inspired Myeseon and Hwiyeon to follow in her fitness footsteps. While she was very strict with her fitness regime, she was very lenient with most every other aspect of her life. Her house was kept clean by everybody else living there, and she lived by the motto “I get there when I get there.” | Before Keunghee’s death, she and Hwiyeon had a slightly strained relationship. Sure, they got along fine, but they just seemed somewhat awkward to people around them. Hwiyeon has confided in her twin that she thought Keunghee was a bit weird. They could talk easily, but Hwiyeon tried to avoid talking to her because she found Keunghee’s manner of speaking very frustrating. However, after Keunghee was diagnosed with leukemia and had a little under a year to live, that changed and Hwiyeon started making more of an effort to love on her mother. They made several great memories in those eight months, bringing the two closer together than anyone would have thought. Hwiyeon cried bitterly at her mother’s funeral, and often still wonders what she could have done better while she was alive. |

Father: Ae Ryoju | 55 | Unknown | Alive | Ryoju is a very strict man in more ways than one. He firmly believes in tidiness and punctuality, a trait he and Hwiyeon share. He is kind and funny, and always tries to get his children to laugh at his silly jokes. Even though he can get kind of snappy if he’s overworked, he tries not to direct it at anyone. As he was once diagnosed with a minor case of OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder), he firmly believes that some things just have to be done a certain way which sometimes conflicted with how Keunghee thought things should be done. | Hwiyeon and her father were much closer than she and her mother, even if his job got in the way sometimes. Whenever he was at home, Hwiyeon was always the first to greet him, and even though she wasn’t allowed to know a lot about what he did to earn money, she still found things to talk about with him. The two found ways to spend time together despite the huge time commitment his job required. She even once told Sunghyun in complete confidence that, if their parents were to ever divorce, she would choose to live with Ryoju. However, after her mother’s funeral, the two started drifting apart, only to be wrenched back together by the wakeup call from her siblings. Now that Hwiyeon is away at school, they keep close contact, and try to Skype each other every night that Ryoju is home and not at work. |

Older Sister: Ae Myeseon | 23 | Marketing Agent | Alive | Myeseon is fun and quirky, which is perhaps why people seem attracted to her at first glance. She loves going partying when she’s not at work, and she has a bright smile that makes people feel compelled to listen to her (this may be why she has such a successful career so young). She believes that things must be done as soon as they are assigned, which may be a result of going to school in North Korea for so long. She is very neat and organized. She naturally makes people feel comfortable around her, and is always the life of the party (or any room she enters). | For the longest time, Myeseon was Hwiyeon’s idol; she wanted to be just like her older sister. She followed Myeseon around when they were young, and they both loved spending time together. Granted, they aren’t as close as Hwiyeon and Sunghyun, but they still take the time and get to know each other when things are especially hectic. Hwiyeon stays at her sister’s apartment in Daejeon during holidays. Myeseon is always trying to get Hwiyeon to come out of her shell and have fun, and Hwiyeon is always trying to get Myeseon to see the value in spending a quiet night at home. They also share an obsession of Running Man, and can spend hours just talking about the latest episode, who should have won and why, etc. They have their differences, but they get along like any other pair of sisters. |

Younger Brother: Ae Sunghyun | 19 | Computer Student and Part-Time Gas Station Attendant | Alive | Sunghyun is a very relaxed guy. He goes with the flow and is able to adapt to anything. He can sleep through everything except Hwiyeon’s alarm clock, which is loud enough to wake up both of them. Even though he is relaxed about a lot of things, he is like Hwiyeon when it comes to school: everything must be perfect. (While her focus in school is foreign languages, his is computer engineering, as in creating computer games and such.) He has an easy smile and always tries to make others laugh, even if they don’t really want to laugh. But like all boys, he can be a bit ornery, immature and annoying at times; sadly, since the twins live together, most of his annoying personality comes out when Hwiyeon is around. Even though he can be a bit annoying, he is very protective of his older sister and vice versa. He definitely knows when it’s time to turn off the jokes and become serious. He is always ready to lend a helping hand or a comforting embrace. | The two go to the same school, so they moved into a small officetel together. They are very comfortable around each other, and have tons of inside jokes that nobody else understands. (One of them is the English word for ‘potato’ pronounced like ‘pur-tay-tur’; if one says it, they both fall apart laughing, mystifying anybody close enough to hear them.) Neither of them think it’s weird that they live together, but they often receive strange glances from people visiting their officetel since half is clean and organized and the other half looks like a tornado blew through. Sometimes, if they’re out in public together in a place they’re not likely to be recognized, they pretend to read each others’ minds (doing the ‘transmit brain wave’ action from one twin’s head to the other) and act exactly like each other, just to mess with people. When people see them for the first time, even though they’re fraternal twins, they still look eerily similar to the point where Hwiyeon is sometimes mistaken for Sunghyun and vice versa. They respect each other’s boundaries, but also aren’t afraid to confront each other if something is wrong. After Hwiyeon’s disastrous interview in which she gains her powers, they only seem to grow closer. As the saying goes, catastrophe brings people together like nothing else can. Sunghyun calms her down whenever things seem too unbearable, and is there for her when nobody else is. |

Best Friend: Lee Yoonbi | 19 | Student/ Lifeguard at the nearest rec center | Yoonbi is totally wacky and wild. She is full of energy and always has a smile on her face. Her laugh is contagious and sometimes she cracks up for no reason at all. She is fun to be around and loves organizing fun social events like class outings to the nearest theater. She is a sociable person and people are immediately drawn to her. | Yoonbi and Hwiyeon have been friends for as long as they can remember. Although their relationship took a few pretty rough hits at times, like during Hwiyeon’s time in North Korea, they always managed to find each other again. Since they are in the same school they find it much easier to spend time together. Every weekend they try to get together for something simple, like a movie or dinner. They have promised each other that they will never stray from each other again. ]

Friend:  Jung Kwanghee | 19 | Student/Waitress at a restaurant in Seoul Central Mall | Kwanghee is a very hard worker. She is somewhat stern, and she doesn’t smile much. She, like Hwiyeon, has never been to a party or anything. She is a bit too hard on herself and believes that everything she does must be perfect. | Kwanghee and Hwiyeon are coworkers at the same restaurant. They don’t interact much, but they get along since they are the only two workers there. In some ways, they are more compatible than they realize. They are able to strike up and maintain a casual conversation. ]

Casual clothing: 01 02 03

formal: 01 02 03

Combat ( for wars and missions): 01 02 03

Extras: She has one piercing in each ear (I don’t think you need a pic, but if you do tell me)

Be Mine forever

Love Interest: Aron from NU’EST

Personality: Aron is a nearly typical run-of-the-mill guy, which is perhaps why Hwiyeon isn’t very interested in him as anything other than a classmate. Schoolwide, he is viewed as the lady’s man, and he is very popular due to his smooth way of speaking.

How you two react together: Ever since Aron saw Hwiyeon, he’s had a bit of a crush on her. He hasn’t told her, though, because he doesn’t want to be brutally rejected. They are classmates in university, and in the same Japanese class. They often help each other with homework, and sometimes Aron goes to the café where Hwiyeon works for dinner or to see her. Hwiyeon just sees him as another classmate, someone whom she interacts with at university. She has no feelings for him.

Relation: Classmates

How you met: It was the first Japanese class of the term, and they were sitting on opposite sides of the classroom. Aron noticed how she avidly answered every question in Japanese, almost as if she had been studying the book the whole summer (which she had). He caught her after class and asked if she might be able to help him with his homework at times.

Back-up Interest: Henry Lau from Super Junior

Personality: He is very sweet and innocent, though not so innocent that he doesn’t know what certain things mean contextually. He always is ready and eager to lend a helping hand. However, this can sometimes backfire.

Relation: Acquaintances

How you two met: Henry was taking a jog in the park when he saw Hwiyeon wearing a very sour expression, sitting on the ground with papers surrounding her. He jogged over and asked if he could help. After that, they started talking and realized that they worked in the same mall, but at different stores.

Never turning back:

Power / supernatural creatureUmbrakinesis (darkness manipulation)

Definition: Umbrakinesis is the creation and manipulation of the essence of darkness. She is able to transport herself through shadows, fly, blend her body with darkness and become intangible, shape and manipulate darkness at will, and more. Anger makes her powers show themselves. If she loses control of her anger, she loses control of her powers. However, she is unable to call upon her powers in direct sunlight, and powers of light are especially effective against her. She’s not a vampire, she simply can’t use her powers in broad sunlight.

When she consciously calls upon her powers for, say, a battle, she is able to access a small shadow-locker (visible only to her) in which she keeps her battle attire. After touching one of the outfits inside the locker, she momentarily dips beneath the ground through a pool of darkness. When she resurfaces, she is wearing that outfit. However, if she only wants her powers and not her combat attire, then she doesn’t need to open the shadow-locker.

Use: She prefers to defend people with her powers but if needed she will go on the offence

Weapons: She doesn’t really need a weapon; she can just summon darkness to take the form of any weapon she may need or want, though that's difficult for her

Reaction to power/ creature side: She was initially totally freaked out and scared. She didn’t know why she could do what she had just done. She felt destructive and uncontrollable. After a while, she realizes the usefulness of her powers and how she can help people.

I’m Gonna miss you!

Comments: I just wanted to clarify that I did not steal or copy the twin thing and the darkness manipulation thing from the other applicant michiSu in any way, shape or form. I didn’t know that we had done similar things with our applications until I saw your updated chapter in your story. I’m sorry if it looks like I copied them, but I did not.

Also, please tell me if the background is too long, and I’ll shorten it.

Also, I apologize about the curtness of the love interests’ profiles, I was starting to run out of time and I wanted to give this to you as soon as possible. :)

Scene requests: The moment she firsts discovers her powers. Please have it be something to do with her not being able to control her anger, and thus destroying something accidentally. Or, maybe instead of that, she gets scared of something and screams, and from seemingly nowhere a protective shield envelops her. Also, a fun scene with her twin brother, maybe :)
