Sumin is the younger kid in the Lee family. Her older brother, Lee Minhyuk (1992) became an actor at a young age (10 years) and over the years became a sucessful actor. When Sumin was 7 years old, her brother suggested his director to call Sumin to do the role of the younger version of the female lead. The director was pleased with her work and recommended Sumin for future projects. And that was the start of her acting career. She would do small roles as the younger version of female lead for 1 or 2 episodes, and after a while she got minor roles as young child characters for movies or dramas, but nothing with a big impact. As she grew older, she started to get attention due to her looks and she signed with her brother's agency Fantagio. Growing up not only with a famous brother, but also in front of cameras, Sumin had no choice but to become mature, independent and responsible since very young. Since everyone was always watching her moviments and attitudes, Sumin learning to keep a good posture, act accordingly and how to cause a good impression. Her good eye in choosing scripts also helped her acting in good dramas and being known for her realistic performances. Later on she was invited to feature in the mv of one of her favourite kpop groups (Block B) and also in 5URPRISE's mv. This participations made big agencies keep an eye on her and soon, SM asked whether Sumin would like to join their company. She signed to be an actress, however they suggested her to do the full training as a trainee. what do you think about the group's concept?
— "I'm happy with our group's concept. We worked hard and SM not only trusted on us but also helped us improve and create this unique concept. We want to show the female power and that everyone can relate themselves with our songs, from children to elders. It's never late to achieve your dreams and be the best version of yourself."
how are you going to survive living with a bunch of other girls?
— "All the girls are respectful and we can all understand each other. I'm happy to be able to live with them and see them grow as we improve as a group. I have an older brother, so I'm blessed to be able to share the love I received from him to my members."
what do you think about nct? do you get along with your counterpart?
— Sumin eyesmiled brightly before answering "NCT sunbaenims have been incredibly supportive and we improved by far due to their help. They are amazing role-models and they put a lot of passion in their work, so we are blessed to be able to meet them. My counterpart? We get along well, Taeyong sunbaenim has been helping me a lot. Sumin was still not used to this new agency and the only person who could help her, Joy, was too busy to be able to help her. The following day would be not only a monthly evaluation, but also the day she would probably be introduced to smrookies. Even though she knew that even if she failed as an idol she would still be an actress, why was she so stressed and nervous? She booked a training room for that time and as she entered, she saw a male figure sitting in the corner of the room. She knocked on the door, before entering, and the male nooded at her, telling her to get in and that he would be leaving in no time. Something inside Sumin was unsettled, she got closer to him to make sure he was fine.
"Are you ok?" - She asked.
"Yeah..." - The male looked at her for a moment and then sighed - "How can you do it?"
Not really knowing what he was talking about, she looked at him confused and asked what he was talking about.
"I mean, how can you handle being in front of cameras and looking so natural and controlled, aren't you tired?" - The male asked her, now making full eye contact with her.
"That's the secret, you act as if everything is normal, when in fact it's not" - She smiled at him and then offered him a bottle of water. The male thanked her and she bit her bottom lip nervous - "Could you tell me your opinion about my performance, please? Tomorrow is a very important day for me and I need to make a good impression".
The male nooded his head and Sumin stood up and did her performance. After finishing, she once again came closer to him and then asked for his opinion "How was it?".
"You will be fine, don't worry!" - He smiled at her.
"Thanks" - She smiled embarassed - "I'm Sumin, what's your-" - She was about to ask his name when someone interrupted them by yelling 'Yong'.
The next day, her evaluation went smoothly and she was introduced to the smrookies. When she scanned the room with her eyes, she saw a familiar figure, the man from the previous day, smiling at her. When the training ended, he approached her with a cheeky smile, which Sumin learned to be his charming smile.
"I told you would be fine, see? It's nice to meet you Sumin, I'm Taeyong".
