She plays all of that by ear, which means no one really knows what to expect when she steps on set, which can sometimes pose a real problem to more structered and planned out shows.

She doesn't really know how to play the long game and prefers to have present victories, and believe me when I tell you that she's a sore loser. Doesn't take defeat gracefully.

They way she sees herself definitely correlates to how well her training and now her official career. The standing and position she has in her group are definitely uppers to her confidence, but every mistake, every game lost, every time she is moved from the front, her self-esteem takes a hit.

Ya Yin grew up in Wuhan, China as an only child. Her parents had pretty regular jobs, her mother worked as a housekeeper and her father is the manager of a delivery service.

When people asked Yinnie what she wanted to be when she grew up, without fail, she would always say she wanted to be a performer. She didn't really know what kind she wanted to be, but she was the kind of kid who would put on shows in her living room for her parents. Her mother is always quoted as saying "We have a performer...well now what?" Her family wasn't sure how to support her and get her where she wanted to be, they just knew they would do what they could. 

She grew up during an interesting time for the asian music industry, right when it was taking off and gaining traction, kpop specifically. She grew up listening to popular kpop acts, which led to her dream of being a successful kpop idol. She also got to grow up watching idols from China work and gain success in a Korean market, so she really saw herself debuting and working. 

It was honestly just about getting signed with someone in Korea, which proved to be a challenge. There were plenty of companies that existed, but most of them auditioned only in Korea and she didn't really have the means to travel there, so she was limited to companies that would do global auditions which China as a stop. 

As luck would have it however, the BigHit decided announce their global auditions around the time Yinnie was in the full throws of her agency search. Yinnie sent in her video auditions and was asked to attend their in-person auditions in Shanghai. The audition went great and within the week, she was offered a spot at BigHit and was flown out to the trainee dorms.

Yinnie was extremely nervous about moving into a dorm full of strangers and having to make it work. A lot of those nerves calmed down though becase she met and became friends with the trainee from RBW. Mingxia and Yinnie are both from China and understand the extra hardship of having to live and train in a place while you are also learning the language. Yinnie loves having someone she can speak to in Mandarin and it wasn't long before Mingxia became the member that Yinnie is closest to. 

The girls have a lot in common, both are extremely hardworking and dedicated, both are quieter and calmer than some of their members, but they also help each other. Mingxia kind of help keep Yinnie from getting to worked up and Yinnie is there whenever Mingxia needs a place to be calm and reminds her to take some time for herself and relax. 

Yinnie honestly thinks that she wouldn't be able to be a part of this group if Mingxi hadn't been selected as well to be a part of it. It's important to her to have a friend who reminds her of home and has her back in the industry. Someone to understands the difficulty. She isn't sure what happens after this group comes to an end, but she hopes that Mingxia will still be around afterward.

These two met about seven months after Yinnie started training. Once she had gotten settled, she got a chance to meet and connect with other trainees. SinB was one of the female trainees moved from BigHit to Source Music, and she had been training much longer before the scandal. 

These two still talk from time to time and it's always good to see each other at music shows and community events. Like ISAC's or award shows. SinB was over the moon to hear that her friend would finally be debuting as she debuted without her. 

♦​​​​​​​ Close Friend : Jung Eun Bi (Eunha) / Idol in GFiend / Fun-loving, Devilishly Smart, Likeable / 10/10

Again, these two met when they were trainees under Source Music, yet another female trainee moved by BigHit. They met a little later than SinB but they hit it off really fast. Eunha is just one of those people who entered Yinnie's life and was perfect for it. The two had a lot in common, they were both quieter, they were both vocalists, so they saw a lot more of each other, but they were quicly separated because of GFriend's debut later that same year.

These two still message a lot back and forth and hang out when they have some time, which is rare. They do also see each other on music shows and other events. And more often than not, this is who Yinnie is texting. 

Eunha was of course excited to hear about her friend's debut and wishes her the best.

If Yinnie is being honest, she wasn't sure if this was going to work or not. She was happy to a part of it and eager to see if they could really take off, but it was always going to be a toss up. They would either suceed and take the industry by storm, or they would flop and she would be right back where she started. 

As time has passed, the girls have gotten closer, learned more about each other and have figured out a system that works for them. As debut gets closer, everyone has kind of fallen in line and is ready to work harder than ever.

what was their trainee life like? How long were they a trainee?

♦​​​​​​​ Yinnie started training in 2015 and about a month after she started her training, BigHit had their scandal. They stopped accepting and training girl group hopefuls and she was transferred to Source Music along with all the other girls who were training there. 

She spent the bulk of her training under Source Music. It was a stressful time for her as she had to figure out how to get all her things moved to a different dorm, she had to re-learn a new company building, say goodye to some friends she had made, oh and did I mention she was still learning the basics of Korean while this was all happening? She remembers her first year as a trainee as the hardest of her life as she was avidly studying a new language and was still expected to meet the expectations of her new company. 

Still though, she put in a lot of work and stayed determined and passionate and rose through the ranks of her fellow trainees. Source Music trainees come up with a ton of critique, which molded her into a well rounded performer. 

Right before the selection process for the new girl group, BigHit absorbed Source Music, and allowed trainees that had signed them before to come back if they so chose. Yinnie jumped at the chance and moved back to her original company to finish out her training. 

Vocals - 10/10 - Yinnie is an incredibly solid vocalist. This is the skill that came easiest to her and the one she was most interested in. She put the most work into developing her vocal range, tone, and prowess and is definitely satisfied with how she sounds. When it comes to what she would rather be doing, she will always choose to sing. 

Rap - 7/10 - Yinnie would be lying if she said she wasn't ever interested in rapping and during her training process, her trainers found that she actually had some potential and insisted that she get more intensive and serious about it. Not main rapper potential, but can hold down a rap line if needed. 

Dance - 7/10 - This is defintely the skill that needed the most work. When she started, she had timing issues, incredibly sloppy, and her balance needed improvement. Now a days, she is much cleaner and has great technique, though it is missing a little personal style, flair, but her stage presence seems to more than make up for it. 

Variety - 8/10 - She's not the loudest or most animated, but she's kind and she always seems to catch someone's attention. It's rare that she's not cast in a good light when it comes to television.

Modeling - 6/10 - She's an idol performer, not nessescarily a model, so with time, this skill will probably improve but as it stands now, other members of the group are better than her at this, truly.

Most people who looked at the BigHit girls pretty much knew that Yinnie would be the one chosen, but she didn't know that. She went out and performed the best way she knew how and when she was announced as the selected trainee, she is clearly shocked. Like, her hands went to her face and she got teary eyed kind of surprised. 

The biggest thig she feels is relief. Like all her time and effort and everything she endured has led her to this point. She feels like everything else was worth it for this chance to be in such a superpower of a girl group. 

Her heart goes out to the girls she left behind and wishes the best for them. She was extremely nervous moving forward with these new girls she'd never met or worked with, but couldn't deny she was exicited for everything to come.

Supportive - He likes to think of himself as a helper, sharing his knowledge, time, and energy with anyone who needs it, especially friends and family. He tries to choose empathy over judgement any time he can.

Sensitive - He has some troubel separating personal and inpersonal situations. Any negativity in whatever situation it is will carry over from his personal life into her professional one and vise-versa. 
Repressive - For strangers or people he isn't comfortable with, he is extremely private. He has a desire to protect his feelings and will honestly do that at all costs, which leads to him holding it all in and expelling it in small bouts of frustration or stress. 
Overloaded - He is always happy to help that he is really good at overloading his own plate, giving himself too much to do and burning out on it. Which is something he and Yinnie have in common.
Reluctant to Change - He lives squarely in his comfort zone and sees drastic change as the enemy.

♦​​​​​​​ The way Yinnie puts it, you don't get to move back to BigHit without meeting the people who were training there, which is where she met Soobin. She came back to the company in early 2018 and was introduced to him a short time later. It wasn't a typical friendsip, it was more of awkward than that, mostly because unlike her who had been training with girls and boys, he had only been training with male trainees, so there was a dynamic that was thrown off because of it. Still though, after the adjustments, they kind of came to an understanding of how the other worked and founf that their personalites were extremely similar if not identical from time to time. 

There was a bit of a culture barrior because they did grow up in two different countries, but Yinnie has that with everyone and Soobin didn't seem to mind. And that's honestly how things stayed for that year. The two making jokes and being civil during their training. Though everything changed in 2019 with Soobin's debut and Yinnie's selection. 

The two actually didn't have much time to talk in 2019 with the both of them being so busy, seeing each other occasionally in the company building, but recently as things have lulled a little bit, the two have both been spending more time at the BigHit building and it was like distance made the heart grow fonder because in now time at all, the two of them got closer. They started hanging out a lot more, they started texting more often, it was obvious to anyone who was paying attention that there were feelings developing. And it's definitely been noticed by company officials. 

They were issued a reminder about dating bans and to keep their relationship professional, which makes sense to Yinnie. They are both young, their careers have just gotten started and the last thing BigHit wants is another scandal. 

Yinnie is content to wait it out and stay as close to him as the company will let her for the time being. She really likes him and has asked Mingxia for advice about the whole thing. So many idol have had their careers put on hold because of people they want to date. 

As of now, the two still hang out when they can, though Yinnie is about to be a whole lot busier. They mesh well together and have talked about what they want moving forward. Both agreed to keep it civil and proffesional until enough time has passed to give it a shot. Which is a little scary because neight of them know who they will be when that time comes, but it's the only thing they can do for right now.
