PERSONALITY laid back and go with the flow, maya's not super high energy but always down for a good time. she ends up in some situations she never thought she'd be in because of this trait but she knows when to diffuse the situation if things get a little too out of hand. easy to get along with but frustrating to make plans with since she will usually just go along with whatever you suggest, even after you ask for her input (when she says she's down for anything she really does mean she's down for anything!). curious by nature and still trying to find her place in the world, she's open to new experiences and seems to be filled to the brim with questions.
BACKGROUND comes from an upper-middle class family, with her dad owning a real estate company that specifically helps japanese families and her mom being a hair stylist at an upscale salon. she has a little brother and her family is pretty close, they even have a family group chat they talk in when her brother isn't sending them japanese memes. her dad had been hoping that she'd follow in his footsteps and take over the company when she's older, but maya decided to go a different route instead.

UNI LIFE lives in the freshman dorms with her two roommates who are both part of an asian sorority on campus. she'll go to parties and clubs with them when they invite her on the weekends but she's usually in their room a lot more often than they are (they're busy with rushing and pledge duties). she tries her best to keep on top of her work while also making time to chill with friends, and she's been doing a pretty good job so far. she works on her assignments the days she gets them and usually gets lunch/dinner with friends between or after classes. definitely doesn't party as often as others in her year but she's not a total shut in either.

"mm, i think i've met everybody here at least once before! well..." maya trails off, pursing her lips a bit. "actually, now that i think about it, i don't think i've met jeff yet. i've heard about him but i still haven't run into him at any of the parties."

"as topher says, 'i'm a motherin' ten out of ten baby,'" maya drawls, pitching her voice lower as her the corner of her lip curls up in a smirk.
"that was the worst impression i've ever heard," topher deadpans as he watches maya break down in laughter.

"i do!" maya answers cheerfully. "although, i only watch a couple shows, i'm more into reading manga to be honest."
Are you okay with drugs? Like seeing or using them?
maya grimaces slightly, "i'm ok with them, but i personally don't use. i had a uh, bad experience with edibles and haven't touched drugs since."
You're at a house party. What is the first thing you grab to drink?
"usually the first thing i grab are tequila shots, and after that i'll go for some mixed drinks or smirnoff ice," maya says with an easy smile. "if it's one of your house parties though, i'm just drinking whatever louis mixed up all night because his drinks are the best."
Why do you want to come?
"i've never been to cancun before and it sounds like it'll be a fun time, plus topher asked me so how could i say no?" maya sends topher a teasing look as she chuckles. "and besides, i think this will be a fun chance to get to know all of you better too!"

parkpark at first glance, the eldest member of the brat pack was a bit intimidating since it looked like he could crush her head like a walnut with his bicep. all of that faded away however when he offered her some snacks and she saw barkbark cradled in his arms. now taeseong is the one she goes to if she ever needs help stopping topher from doing anything too crazy during parties, and they'll often chat as they bring topher back to safer grounds. she thinks he views her as a younger sister since she's often on the receiving end of well meant pats on the head and reminders to eat actual meals instead of just snacks, but then again that might just be his personality.

jojo like most of the other members of the brat pack, maya was introduced to joey by topher. since they're both in the biology department, maya will sometimes ask him for advice about her schedule and what professors to avoid since many of their core classes are the same. she likes his energy, endlessly amused by the things he says, and her abs are always sore from laughing so much whenever she's with him and topher. they're not close by any means but maya does feel a sense of familiarity with him since he's topher's grandbig and they're in the same department.
mr. jeffrident the one member of the brat pack maya still hasn't met to this day. she's heard a lot about him through topher and the other boys, but she has somehow still never actually met him. apparently, he's been at some of the parties maya's attended but everytime topher brings her over to introduce them, he's gone. at this point, maya's convinced he's either a ghost or just has no interest in meeting her. she's looking forward to finally meeting him on this trip.
gavin in all honesty, maya had seen his tiktok videos before actually meeting him and they had left a bad taste in . she wouldn't say she outright dislikes him since she's sure there's more to him than his personality in his posts (she's heard about some of his more redeeming qualities from topher), but she doesn't exactly like him either. their interactions are mostly just polite greetings and small gestures of acknowledgement when they run into each other.
owen like with most of the other members of the brat pack, she's had limited interactions with him but she just from those few moments of talking to him she's been left with an overall good impression. he seems nice and respectful, plus maya thinks it's really cute how topher looks up to him as his big. she's looking forward to getting to know him a bit better over the course of this trip!
louis really only interacts with him whenever she's grabbing drinks at gpa house parties. she's heard the rumors about him from her roommates but can't say she believes them since her interactions with him have been so limited. she has to admit though, he makes a damn good drink and she never fails to tell him that.
ashton he's usually crossed and already in airplane mode whenever maya sees him at parties, so their interactions are rather limited. he's heard about her rather unfortunate first time being high though and told her to come to him if she ever felt like giving weed a try again, and maya honestly might take him up on that offer one day.
dicky maya met dicky at the first gpa house party she attended, curiousity peaked when she spotted a film camera around his neck and a dslr in his hands. all of her questions about film photography were met with upbeat replies and their conversation shifted towards his work, and maya was amazed with what he showed her. now, whenever they see each other, they'll take turns showing off the recent photos and videos they've taken before talking about whatever comes to mind. maya enjoys his company and his cheery personality, and likes to think that they're friends by this point.

both freshmen ended up in a couple GE classes together but it wasn't until they were paired up for a project in calculus that they started talking to each other. they exchanged numbers with plans of meeting up after their next calculus class and parted ways, expecting to see each other on friday, only to see each other again the very next day in english comp. from that day on they sat next to each other since they didn't know anyone else in their class and lectures became a bit more entertaining. topher would bring memes/tiktoks up on his laptop to try to make her laugh, and all maya could do was put her head down and try to hide her laughter (sometimes she'd retaliate by poking him in the side and making him flinch, it worked everytime).

to most people they seem like a weird pair, most people think maya is a complete introvert and can't understand how she can keep up with topher. while maya is definitely more reserved than topher, she's able to match his energy and is usually down for anything he suggests. sure, maya does have to reign him in sometimes when things get a bit too crazy but that doesn't make her enjoy his company any less.
it was actually topher that brought up the topic of the retreat, mentioning to her that he'd be in cancun for a bit with the rest of the brat pack. she joked about how lonely she'd be since her roommates were also going on their own retreat with their sorority and that he better take a lot of pics since she's never been to cancun before. he saw that as his opportunity to ask if she'd like to come as his date and she said yes with 0 hesitation.
