“THE WILD CARD, SHIN MINJU”

APPEARANCE.   With her soft features, long flowing black hair and slim body, Minju is considered to be one of the prettiest girls in Jeguk High. She has the kind of frail appearance that would attract protective types of guys. Little do they know, Minju has more in store than her sweet and soft exterior. 
STYLE.  Minju's uniform is not something the teachers approve of. Throughout the school year, she always wears a hoodie, sweater or a jacket over it and thin stockings under her skirt, because she's always damn cold.  The only time she does not have to wear warm clothes is summer and that's only during the day. x

BACKGROUND.   Being born into a family of an emotionally unstable couple, Minju did not really grow up to be cared for. Having an unemployed drug addict for a mother and an abusive construction worker for a father was not really ideal or even remotely associated with what's needed for a healthy child to develop. Minju's only support was her brother, Minhyun, who was 12 years older than her and who had his own to deal with. That's why he did not really have time to take care of her after she turned 6. Even before that, there was not much he could do that could replace her neglectful and sometimes abusive parents. Because of this Minju had to mentally grow up and care for her survival way too early. At times she even had to resort to stealing, begging on the street and searching the dumpsters behind diners for food. Most of the day or sometimes a week she spent starving. Malnutrition was a and she grew up to be a short and skinny girl. Her height was normal but compared to her mother, father, and brother she was a midget. Her only caretaker was her brother, but he could not be there for her for the whole day as he had to go to school and study hard because him being a successful professional was the only way to get his family out of the gutter. 

Minju's father liked to have everything under his control. Being a failed musician and having to work at construction sites just to feed his family took its toll on him and by the time Minju was born, his controlling nature had already escalated and become abuse. He wanted his children to appreciate music, so he taught both of them how to play the piano, the only object remnant of his parents' legacy that he refused to sell. For Minju's brother, those childhood memories were relatively happy, especially because he received no love from his drunk of a mother(who later resorted to abusing drugs). In contrast, those childhood lessons were one of the worst memories for Minju. She remembers the sharp, stinging pain she would feel whenever her father struck her hands with a stick every time she made a mistake, having even closed the lid over her fingers for messing up the notes once. At that time, the man was unemployed and Minju's mother was working as a nurse(her gateway to prescription drug abuse). That insecurity of having lost his "purpose" of providing for his family along with the cold shoulder from his tired wife just made the man deteriorate further. When he got a job at a construction company as a manager, he felt some kind of purpose return to his life, but soon that disappeared as well. Life became much much harder after that. But Minju survived, even after her brother left for Yonsei University to study software engineering. 

Unbeknown to Minju, her brother kept trying to get his father to let Minju live with him, but the man refused. After years of trying with the man, Minhyun turned directly to Minju, but by that point, they had grown distant. Not wanting to burden her brother, Minju was reluctant to accept Minhyun's offer, but after her father started dropping hints of his ual interest in her, she packed her few belongings and showed up at her brother's door. 
TRIVIAS.  
- Minju has ADHD. She was not diagnosed until she actually enrolled into Jeguk High and by then she had already come up with ways to deal with it and was not down for having meds control her mind. yuck. That's why she's all over the place. but when she hyper focuses, she's highly impressive, both academically and creatively. In the first semester of their junior year, Minju managed to tie with the current student council president, Ha Jumin, in the midterm. She was still second place because alphabetically Ha Jumin coms first. Was this a fluke or could she actually rob the president of his first place? we will probably never know. 
- Coffee is Minju's best friend. it does not only help her wake up but also helps her start the day calmly. Throughout the day she'll drink up to 8 cups of coffee. She always keeps a can of cold coffee by her bed, so she can drink it immediately after waking up. After that, she's the person prancing around the place, playing ball with an orange and coming up with strange dance moves. She seriously does not know how to sit still, but she manages to tone it down during classes and serious situations, limiting her fidgeting to her hands, fingers or feet.
-  When Minju hyper focuses, it's usually because she likes a certain topic a lot. It's almost always to the point that she forgets to eat and do other things because she's so preoccupied with one thing. She once peed herself because she ignored her need to go to the toilet, while she was researching a topic she really liked. 
- she has moments of crazy energetic inspiration. The results are 50/50. She can either produce a masterpiece or total garbage. 
-Conversations with her can easily go from one random point to the next and people can barely keep up with her. She makes connections most people would not and sometimes that can be very useful. 
- due to her problems with concentration, Minju's memory is also quite strange. If she's especially uncontrolled, she might not even remember hours, sometimes days at times. Then there's the other extreme where she remembers every detail to the T.
- Her favorite fruits are oranges and peaches. 
- Minju has a youtube channel that she uploads acapella, instrumental and dance covers on. Currently, her channel boasts 27k subscribers. 
- She is highly vocal of her opinions and even though people call her a fairy around the school, she might just end up being the one to demolish your self-esteem. While there are badasses around school no one wants to mess with, most of them don't compare to Minju when it comes to creative and humiliating insults. 
- Her current favorite artists include(but are not limited to): Florence + the machine; Mid-air thief; Lizzo; Crywank; Daughter; David Bowie; IDLES; MGMT; HYUKOH; Fishmans; Kenshi Yonezu; New Order; The talking Heads; Lizzy Mercier Descloux; Red Hot Chili Peppers; Son Lux; The Kinks; King Gizzard & The Lizzard Wizard; Nirvana; Metallica; Queen; The Smiths; Oasis; Jamiroquai; Indigo la End; Joy Division; Jeff Buckley; The Correspondents; I MONSTER; Yucky Duster(their breakup broke her heart); 
- Minju does not really know what career she wants to pursue. She's pretty interested in science, but she's also interested in everything else, so she's still not sure. 
- Minju is that girl that is friendly with everyone but has 0 close friends. She is someone people trust and feel safe around, despite her random bursts, but it seems like Min herself does not feel that way towards anyone at this point in time. 
- Minju loves shopping; the color pink; spicy food; chocolate(the only sweet thing she can eat besides fruit); roller and ice skating; pastel colors(esp. pink)
- Even though Minju looks fragile, she is surprisingly athletic. She has no problem jumping around for the cheerleading choreos; running laps around the stadiums; She is even a skilled fighter. Now, she does not know any martial arts and probably would not be able to win in a match, but when it comes to a real fight, most of these fancy rich kids with black belts would not be able to beat her. Mentality and experience are important factors in a fight after all. Rehearsed moves and competitions won't do you any good if you don't have any real experience fighting. Minju is quite smug about this. 
- Minju knows how to do minimal makeup, meaning a thin layer of foundation, concealer to cover up the black under eyes from lack of sleep, Mascara and lip tint. Ask her to make wings with eyeliner and she'll fail and cry about it. 
- One time when Minju was particularly faulty with her piano lessons, her father put her into a washing machine and turned it on. he did it several times after that as well.  That's why if an activity involves any kind of rotation(rollercoaster or anything of the like) she might(most likely will) have a panic attack. That is also why she often gets sea and car sick. She also can't stand extremely small spaces. an improvement to this has been her cheerleading activity. She has taken this on as a challenge and has managed to almost desensitize herself to the fear. This desensitization, unfortunately, only extends to her cheerleading activities. anything else might still trigger a panic attack.

ð brother ð Minhyun; 30(12.21) software engineer; Minhyun and Minju are by now just like any other brother and sister. They are super close and bicker almost all the time, but all in good fashion. Minhyun nags her to study more and Minju nags him to clean his house more, but whenever they're together, they always have a great time. It was a bit awkward at first, having not had a real relationship for years, but it was easy for both of them to get used to each other and today they are probably closer than any other sibling duo in existence. 

          
ð dormmates ð Wonhee & Noeul; Minju is not really close with two, even though she really wants to be. She just can't seem to find a way to insert herself into the pair's dynamic. Also, she gets flustered around wonhee, as she is known for being a youtuber around campus, while Minju's channel is not as popular in their school, her content being not as all-encompassing as wonhee's. Minju generally wants to get close to the two and all of her other dormmates, but since behind her friendly nature and a smooth way of introducing herself lies an awkward potato who does not really know how to get close to people and open up to them. eh, what will she ever do?

          
ð friend ð Han Sangmin; 24(10.10); Barista at a coffee shop; Sangmin is probably the softest person Minju has ever met. Over the short time that they have known each other, they have gotten quite close and quite fast. Minju sees Sangmin as a literal fallen angel, cause a human being can't be this soft, kind and broken at the same time, she thinks. She basically adores him and he adores her just as much. He has noticed some things about her behavior that nobody else has and she knows it's because he has gone through similar things, that's why they feel a sense of kinship that they have not managed to feel with others.

CLUBS.  
Cheerleading Squad, Jeguk Angels - Min is not really sure why she joined the cheerleading squad, there's no reason behind it. She just thought it would be fun when the previous captain approached her at the start of the sophomore year and encouraged her to try out. Now she's the captain, again not sure how she ended up there, but the squad girls seem to adore her so she got the votes. She is also the one that choreographs most of their cheer routines.
Arts & Music Club - She's an active member of the club and plays drums, electric and bass guitar, grand piano;
