Background Asuka Umeko was born on May 4th, 1999 in Tokyo, Japan. Umeko was the first born and only child of her parents. No matter how many times she asked for a baby sister from Santa, she never got one. Growing up as an only child of a family with a fair amount of disposable income had it perks though. Umeko’s parents sent her to private schools from a young age where she blossomed into a well rounded little girl. Umeko’s mother insisted that she enter some dance or instrumental lessons from a young age and when given the choice, Umeko picked vocal classes and quickly fell in love with it. She would spend every second she wasn’t talking singing and quickly became infatuated with the idea of becoming a singer.
In her first year of middle school, Umeko was quickly convinced to join the small but tight knit music club where she met her closest friends who she has remained close to until this day. Umeko felt like the boys and girls she met in the music club just got her. They quickly formed a band called ‘The Moving Castle’ (featuring Umeko on vocals) that would perform at every school and public event they could. The members of ‘The Moving Castle’ would often talk about their hopes and dreams of becoming a top selling band in Japan. They were all gathered at Umeko’s house talking about said dreams when Umeko was called away by her parents and told the news that her family would be moving to Seoul, South Korea due to her fathers business entering into the country. Umeko truly felt like her world was crashing day on top of her within that moment when she gave her friends the news.
Umeko tried her best to convince her parents to let her stay in Japan but to no avail. It wasn’t long before everything was packed up and she was on a plane to her new home, Seoul, South Korea. It was decided that for the rest of middle school like that Umeko would attend an international school as her English was much better than her Korean. Even though it was a struggle, Umeko slowly adjusted to the life. Her mother reenrolled her into vocal lessons which helped Umeko improve her Korean much faster than she could of imagined. This was also when she discovered idols and the first time she thought that maybe she could audition for different companies. It wasn’t until a year after moving that Umeko asked her parents if they would allow her to audition, to which the said yes. So Umeko started on her search, auditioning for ever company she could before stumbling on Moon entertainment where she eventually became a trainee at age fifteen.
The same year Umeko became a trainee she also entered a foreign language high school where she decided to major in English and minor in Japanese. Then in the year before her debut with Twilight, Umeko graduated high school and entered university where she is currently studying to become a primary school teacher.

'The Moving Castle' / Childhood Friends
Ogata Momona / Twenty-one / Biology major
Umeko met Momona in her first year of middle school. Momona was two years older than Umeko and was one of the last two members left in the music club. She found out Umeko had a love of music and decided to try and persuade her to join the music club, to which Umeko did. They became rather close after that, dispute their . Umeko likes to often refer to Momona as her 'Musical Mother' as she was not only the president of the club, but she was also the one that showed Umeko most of the music she ended up liking.
Nakajima Nobuyuki / Twenty / Art major/art instructor
Umeko met Nobuyuki when she joined the music club as himself and Momona were the final members left after the previous third-years had graduated. Despite Nobyuki being the year above Umeko in school, the two clicked super well and became close in what felt like no time at all. While in the club, Umeko would often voice her concerns about not being able to play any instruments so, Nobuyuki started to teach her guitar so she could become the second guitarist of the band. Even though all the members of 'The Moving Castle' still keep in contact with each other, Nobuyuki seems to keep in contact with Umeko the most. The two will message each other everyday and try to call when they can.

Trainee life Umeko was not only the last member, but also the youngest member to be added to Twilight’s predebut team, being added in early June of 2014. Because of this, Umeko didn’t experience the apparent bullying that comes with being a foreign trainee in a mostly Korean company. Of course her training life was not all smooth sailing. Since Umeko had never really danced before, she struggled to get the hang of it, often spending many late nights in the practice room practicing until the early hours of the morning. But despite all the bad times, she felt lucky to have a group of people which she likes to call her family by her side that she was eventually able to debut with.
