ah, that fic. i can't remember the details of it anymore, but what stayed in my memory was its lesson in the end. if i remember it right, Kris, who was the sole survivor in the game, found the way to escape the room, and he suddenly regretted the death of the other members because the way could be found so simply, but they weren't able to think of it. so he realized then that if they didn't succumb to the fear and terror inflicted to them and just calmly thought of the way out, they could have all escaped alive. the moral lesson was like, stay composed in times of great conflict and unite in order to escape from it.

as to your questions, i think the answers already depend on the reader's interpretation. mystery fics really have a lot of tricky-dicky vague details that lead to multiple assumptions and inferences, but readers will never know which one is the truth. well, i think that's the purpose of the genre. to lead the readers with directions to nowhere.
but i'll try to answer your questions. about the game, it was real. it was a joke that ended in tragedy. xiumin and chen went into hiding because their joke lead to their groupmates' death. what they did was like intimidation resulting to multiple homicide and they'll be punished for it.
but lol don't believe me. i just based it on what i remember. i would need to read it again to have some worthy inferences.

Kris:

Ah last but certainly not less Kris, Lets start from the Kiss part, well they kissed because Kris had stated "If tomorrow were my death day I would probably find somebody to kiss." This possibly could have indicated that Kris had fallen in love with Lay. BUT!! remember the two watches that Kris was wearing? The pink one was Sehun's watch Lu Han was wearing but before he died he left it on the stair wail. The time had stopped on Se Hun's time of death, It's unknown of who fell for who Lu Han or Se Hun but one of them had fallen in love~ The second watch was Yixing's which stopped on the time of his death and to me you could say they both had fallen in love. Next would be the Chanyeol vs Kris why did Kris kill Chanyeol, well its quite easy to see there would be only one reason for it, Chanyeol died because Kris had snapped, Chanyeol had been intending to kill Lay, and Love makes a man crazy so Instead of letting chanyeol kill lay, kris killed chanyeol. Same for the Kai situation, Kris and Lu Han had made a silent agreement to "end" Kai. As Kai and Kris got into an altercation Kai had a fatal blow to the neck which ended in him dying. As the story begins they mention that under Kai's finger nails were traces of Kris's skin. And the cause of Kris killinng Lay well you already know sense I expland it before. And as for the eyeliner, it was a gift from Kai to baekhyun, the first person to have the eyeliner was Kris, Kris knew that baekhyun would die though he didn't say anything, this part still confuses me too. and as for the lighter go back and read Lu Han. And also kris didn't "move" the trampoline when he kicked it, it wasn't shifted enough to make SeHun die. So what was the case, who moved the trampoline? Was it Xuimin and Chen who went missing? But aren't they dead? Still so many questions with this story.

Add on to the Lu Han one; This reason is why Lu Han's body was found outside and not in the house.

D.O:
Kyungsoo's death yeah the most heart breaking for me other then Sehun's. In D.O's case. During this chapter/paragraph. Everyone was basically trying to save one, but in the end no one was there to save Kyungsoo. They only planned to have Kris, Yixing, Baekhyun and Kyungsoo unconscious but Luhan played dirty and intended to kill one and that was Kyungsoo. Sehun was supposed to be the one to die but Luhan moved the glass. Luhan just offered Kris a glass. But when it was supposed to be Yixing to take the poisoned drink, Tao moved the glass. In the end, Kyungsoo was the one who drank it. So basically the glass was ment for Sehun, Lu Han saved Se Hun who passed it to Kris, which went to Lay, Tao took it from Lay saving his life and in the end Kyungsoo was the one who had taken the poisoned wine/drink.

Tao:
I to do not understand this but in the beginning Tao was mentioned in the investigation, which meant that he would be important, to me the death wasn't really shocking, I had the feeling that Kai would you know (Kill him) because of the constant fights they got in but the things that happened with Tao did seem strange and made me wonder, what is his job/plan.

Lay:
Ah Yixing's death, I wont lie.... I cried hard.Kris had intend to kill Yixing all along (even though he loved him) It was said that Kris had the strongest will to live. Yixing which shocked me actually willing let Kris kill him, which I would say is suicide.

Xuimin and Chen:

Ok I understand your confusion with them I was too, but basically the whole story kinda sorta revolves around them, at first the whole thing was a prank. it was a party that Chen and Xuimin was throwing for there 2 year anniversary, but with out the two knowing their prank/party had become real, Xuimin had thrown the chair at the window causing it to break which resulted in the knife in his magic ring to slit his throat when the blood from the wound formed a pool around Xuimin, seeing this Chen freaked out at the realization that it was really happening Xuimin was really dead, Chen outta fear ran up to the door trying to unlock the code, when he got the code wrong the third time the lock said bye bye which cause his magic ring to slit his throat as well. (The person working on the case said that the other ten rings seem to be just ordinary magician props.) After the first two deaths Xuimin and Chen's bodies where taken to the basement. Where they said the basement door had been locked (Though later own they found out that it actually was not looked). Later own in the story the people who were looking for the bodies stated that Xuimin and Chen's bodies were not in the basement(I don't why did they set up the killings did they move the trampoline?), but Sehun's body was there beneath the DDR machines trap door. This made Kris ask if they really were dead our not, he thought that it was a simple April fools joke.

Luhan:

Luhan died willingly but without trying, he was simply trying to escape from the chimney but the rope he wanted to use Kris was holding hostage Kris was afraid to give the rope to Lu Han because at some point during that time Lu Han had a lighter in his hand. Lu Han was willing to burn Kris to death after receiving the rope, this is why he did not get the rope from Kris and used something different when he was able to actually get out the side the make shift rope he used broke which resulted in his death (suicide)
