many said yoey is an adult inside a teenager body. she takes care of others well, open-minded, objective, wise, responsible and modest. she stays rational when faced with problems, and will calmly look for a solution. she doesn't get panicked easily, and will try stay composed even when she's stressed. however, her composed manner might be caused by her repressed trait, as well. she tends to repress her emotions, or even deny it sometimes, which sometimes makes her seem inexpressive, unempathetic or even apathetic.

due to her parents' higher education, she was born and raised in the usa. her parents were originally a college friends. probably being the first child made her born with a burden she had to carry. with a younger brother much younger than her, her parents used to give their attention solely to her. just like how they want their daughter to stand out, they made her learn as many things as possible. ballet, martial arts, foreign language, instruments, archery, tennis, swimming, dance, etc. everytimes she got sick of one thing, her parents would always get her other thing to learn. most of it didn't last long. only martial arts, archery, and dance that last for some years, while others only last for a span of 6 months to 1.5 year at most.

she moved to her father's hometown, seoul, on 2013. her family moved because of her paternal grandfather's worsen health. as she started to live there, she was introduced to the world of kpop by her classmate who was a class' jukebox. she got to know many songs from that friend, and she then ended up being into kpop. there were many songs that she can relate to, making her would always play those kind of songs according to her mood. listening to those songs heals and calms her mind when she get stressed, and companies her in her joy. she then decided to be an idol because of this. just like she hoped for someone to be both her medicine and vitamin, she hoped that she can be a medicine and vitamin for others as well.

on 2014, she prepared for her audition on her own. she knew at least one of her parents would oppose, thus she auditioned secretly. she chose yg entertainment because the first time she got into kpop was because of bigbang. most of the artists she admired were in yg, and she liked yg's concepts and songs the best. she only told her parents about it after she passed the audition on her 2nd try. her father opposed, as he wanted her to choose a more established path like being a civil servant, doctor, scientist, lawyer, and such. she then decided to make a deal with her father, that if she can't debut in 3 years, she is willing to live the way her father wants. the deal didn't work as easy as expected, but in the end, she somehow managed to get her father approve it.
