Rant #2: Baekhyun's issue.

Hi, it's me again!

And I wish I could go on without this rant but after what I witnessed yesterday on social media I HAD to rant because if I don't I'll probably go cray-cray lol

Once again, this is going to be a pretty long rant so, read under your own responsability, please.

As probably all of you know, Baek posted a comment on his IG asking fans to stop following them, taking pictures and basically asking fro privacy in a polite and friendly way. BAEKHYUN, eho has never addressed this issue before. So, after that happened, a lot of fans answered by giving him his support and the fansites took down the pictures. However, there were also malicious comments and people basically bashing him for his request. Consequently, he disabled the comment section on his IG account.

Now, I know a lot of fans understood the issue and supported him. This rant is for all the others, the ones accusing him of "exagerating" and the ones who said "well, what did he expect?". I had an argument with one fan on IG and I just can't understand how this logic works so, I'm gonna leave my opinion here.

1. "He knew how this life was. He traded his privacy for fame and fortune." NO. First of all, he traded his TALENT for fame and fortune. He didn't go around selling his personal life so, this argument is stupid. He works as an idol, yes. But it's still his job which shouldn't imply people knowing about his personal affairs. Just because people often mistakes both concepts it doesn't make it right. Imagine someone would go around Starbucks filming and taking pictures of a barista. Everyone would probably say "that's harassment". That barista works in service, towards the public but still is not right to bother with his/her personal life. Well, the same is applied for idols.

2."That's just how Kfans are." ---> This makes me SO MAD every time. First of all, I know not all Kfans are like that so, I don't want to generalize but even if all of them were it's still not right. I'm TIRED of people justifying their behaviour and actions because of their personalities/culture. If a behaviour is wrong and you excuse it because "it's just the way they are" you are normalizing something that is not right and so, you are a part of the problem. In my opinion, the way to change this is by reporting this behaviour and this reporting should be done by fans and idols alike. It's the way to educate them to be respectful of others.

3. "He should have it up." ---> Well... NO. If he has gotten to the point where he needs to address this, then he should say it. He asked for privacy, a HUMAN BEING asked for something he should have as a fundamental right. So, I think this point is clear: his life, his right, his words.

So, all in alm what I wanted to express here is that just because is something that has "always" happened around showbiz and fandoms, it doesn't mean its okay. It doesn't mean we or idols shouldn't point it out and try to change it. I'm not that naive, I know this behaviour exists and it will unfortunately continue to happen. However, giving up on changing it is giving up hope for the fandoms to get better, to mature and I'm not there yet. If takes 172726284 rants to do it, okay. I still have a lot of time and a will to write.

Please respect your idols. Because before being an entertainment tool, they are human beings too.

That's all I wanted to say. Thanks for reading my rants, I needed to take it out ( - .-)'

Love,

Roro♡

You've explained your points very logically and your justification Against the hate he's getting is absolutely spot-on!

To be honest, I was a little bothered by him telling fans (I'm an i-fan so I've never had the privileged to see k-idols irl) to not take photos when Jeju is an obvious tourist attraction spot. In my opinion, he should've just gone to vacation in a more private place if privacy was such a concern. I'm ONLY bothered by the fact that, if his message was towards fans who takes pictures of him from afar (to evidence that they've seen THE Byun BaekHyun) then it is completely irrational on his part (because let's be real, even I too would whip out my phone to justify to myself that I stood in the same mile radius as a kpop star!). However, if this is to address fans who literally shove their cameras in his face when he's just trying to chill on the beach, then yes, he has every right to address this!

I haven't seen any of the photos taken and so I cannot actually understand exactly which kind of fans he was addressing. Do you know?
