Westminster

Today was one of those weird days; I spent the morning talking with my friend who lives in Munich about her upcoming trip to London, organising which hotel to stay in and what we would do when she got to England. And then I got myself some toast, checked into Facebook and saw Sky News was broadcasting live about "shots fired outside Palace of Westminster" - this was 14:50.

It was honestly one of those horrifying moments of realisation when my mom and I BBC news to find out that an attacker had plowed through civilians and Police officers alike on Westminster Bridge before pinning a cyclist underneath his vehicle as he crashed into the railings outside Parliament before jumping out with 2 knives and running through the gates into the Westminster estate. There, he was confronted by PC Keith Palmer who he stabbed at least once and ultimately murdered before armed Police shot him in turn.

It was scary to realise that not even 3 weeks ago, I had been in that part of London - another scary thing to realise was that there had been reports of a bomb/suspicious vehicle near The Shard which put London Bridge into lockdown on 7th of March. This was the day after I had returned home from London. It turned out to be a false alarm, thankfully.

The whole day was spent glued to the news as we discovered that, as of right now at least, there are 5 dead including the attacker. It genuinely reminded me of another horrific terror attack in London, the 7/7 bombings in 2005. I can still remember sitting in Primary school and being told that 3 trains and a bus had been blown up while people were on the way to work and school. It felt like I had been transported back into my 10 year-old feelings of fear and disbelief.

I would like to take this opportunity to ask you all to keep not just London in your throughts/prayers tonight, but all nations and cities across the Earth who experience devastating terror attacks every day that our news doesn't cover. You're there and we hear you. Just because the attacks aren't reported doesn't mean that they don't happen.

Thoughts to all who have been, are being and will be affected by any sort of terror or violence.
