[OPINIONS] What Are Your Thoughts On Romance? Other Genres? Genre Topic Discussion! Please Share What's On Your Mind!

So, I was just browsing through the social discussions like I usually like to do just to see what's up and what's going on with other peeps on AFF, when I stumbled upon a new discussion made titled 'Why romance stories anyway?' and being the type of person I am with my writing, I had to check this out because it definitely caught my attention. PLEASE, go and check that out [here is the link to it] because it is the reason that I decided to make this blog to find out what you [friends and others] all think about the subject at hand.

I just wanna know, what do you guys think about romance in fanfictions?

I commented a response in the discussion if you, or if you haven't, noticed which you can look at and kinda already get a sense of how I kinda personally feel about it. But I'm going to explain it here again and then some too maybe.

Now, I don't mind romance at all, I don't think there really is anything wrong with having it or including it into ones story. Thing is though, that sometimes when I'm searching through stories and I see a whole bunch of these romance stories and stories where it's mainly focused on the relationship between an OC and Member of a group, I can't help but think "Oh my gosh, this does not interest me at all..." it can kinda bore me.

I mean, like I said, there is nothing wrong with that and I know that many peeps really tend to like that stuff. Hell, I happen to read stuff like that from time to time too and enjoy it as well. And it's not even just with OCS either, sometime I just don't even feel like reading or yuri either, and I love shipping idols together! It's just like, when I see so much I feel like there is a heavy amount of it around and then I might not even feel like reading anything anymore for a while and give up on searching for something that catches my interesting or stop trying to find something that may have elements that I really like within them.

Now, if you did see my comment on the discussion post, then you might already know that something I really enjoy and like including within my stories alongside romance is FRIENDSHUP!!! Friendshup? Lol, friendship! Just the thought of having the characters in a story being really close to each other because of a strong friendship bond seems like such a cool and awesome thing, ya know what I mean?! Like I think I'm beginning to find it even more better or powerful than romance really.

Another thing I said was that when I really think about it, I'm pretty sure I don't even write that much romance anyway (at lease I don't think so) but when I do have stories that do include sometype of romantic relation going on between the characters, I'm now noticing that I barely focus on the romance part of it all that much for the most part. Or maybe just not as much as others. But that's just my style, ya know, I'm not really one to straight up just simply write out romance. I like to include other unique, chaotic, crazy nonsense, fun friendship, comedic like material alongside the romance to make it more interesting for me. Sometimes I look at story comments of others, and comments on stories (that I currently hidden) of my own where people say they'd love to see more love interations happen between the characters. But really, for me, I'm content for the most part with the direction things go in when romance isn't being focused on too much.

For me I really like to see more of the interactions between the characters and the members of a group on a different level, like a friendship one for example. Like with these stories here (or ones like my own), I wish I could find more things like this on AFF (two of these have OCS, which I don't mind and I like the way they are used sometimes, tho sometimes I kinda wish to find stuff like this with just idols in it and no OCS at all, or at least no OCS that are really main characters):

New World || Academy of Villains  || Fight For Yo (no link becuase story is in draft status or whatever so you wouldn't be able to acess it anyway)

(If any of you know of any good stories like that, what I described, I'd love to hear about them)

Anyway! The point her that I'm trying to say is that, at least for me, sometimes romance really isn't all that.

So yeah, that was my two cents on the matter of romance! Tell me what you guys think about romance, and tell me what you think about how you fell about how I fell?

Also if there are any other genres or tagsyou want to give your thoughts about, pliss do!

I enjoy reading romance. I also enjoy reading all sorts of other things. I'm very picky with what I read though, but it's mainly not based on genre, but rather on characters. I don't read OC-stories and I dislike hetero idol pairings so the only hetero-stories I read are SHINee x GIRLee or EXO x fem!EXO (I know, I know, don't judge).

But I really like romance. It depends a little on where the story is set. The setting means a lot to what genre the story is. I read a mafia!AU once which I personally think had too much focus on romance and too little on the mafia-aspect. There gotta be a balance. Though I'm a er for just pure classic romance.

I, myself, write more mental disorder. And I get the "I wish XX would see how much YY loves him"-comments or "please more interactions between XY" but I'm not really bothered by them, because my stories rarely focus on the love, but rather on - well, the mental disorder.
I think how well romance plays into the overall setting is more important though. But I enjoy stories which are not focused 100 % on romance, because man, does it get boring sometimes as well. That said, sweet romance is sweet once in a while too.

I agree with @kukunoona down there
I guess romance is like a nearer 'escapism genre' because it's imagining stuff that could happen in out life (which, unlike pure fantasy stories that won't ever happen [sadly])

and bringing attention to the last part of the discussion post too, and how maybe for them, fictional romance is the only outlet for them to know about or enjoy ual contents (which is still considered to be a sensitive, taboo topic to talk about. Especially for young women?)
