Story Survey 2016

Preliminary Questions

Q: How many stories have you published on AFF?
A : 17 including ongoing ones (and excluding ones I've already taken down for what ever reasons).

Q: How many years have you been writing on AFF?
A: I literally passed my 3 year mark on this account 3 days ago! But if you were to include the years from my previous account on AFF, then 5 years. I was also writing on Winglin before AFF.

Q: How many unique subs do you have?
A: 6544, accurate as of time of answering this question.

Q: Who was your very first comment from and what on?

A: I will never be able to find my real first comment considering how I used another account to write prior to hopebunny. The first comment I've ever received on hopebunny is also no longer available as I've taken down the story for various reasons.

Q: Who was your latest comment from and what on?
A: It's a comment from NanazDaira (thank you so much for being here since the beginning of hopebunny!!) for my current ongoing fic titled It's a Trap, starring EXO's Baekhyun x OC.
Her comment goes:

Who wouldn't fall for Baekhyun's charm ? In the end she will ! I hope so . Hehehehehe . I love things between them now !

About the stories
Q: Which story has the most chapters, and how many?

A: Tainted Fairytale with 100 chapters (longest story everrrrr omg), starring Kris x HyunA with a side of Sehun.
This is not inclusive of Once Upon a Fairytale and Creating Fairytale, both part of the Fairytale series.

Q: Which story has the least chapters, and how many (do not include one or two shots!)?
A: I was going to say Once Upon a Fairytale, but it really counts more as a short story/a oneshot split into too many parts, so imma go with Breaking Free for this. It has 19 chapters, starring TVXQ's Yunho x OC.

Q: Which chaptered story is the most popular?
A: Now, this gets confusing. I would say Tainted Fairytale due to the sheer amount of subscribers, but this story has 100 chapters and was ongoing for two years so that makes things incredibly unfair. I suppose the next in line would be Project Heartbreaker starring EXO's Kris x 4 Minute's HyunA.

Q: Which chaptered story do you consider to be your underdog (aka better than the most popular one)?
A: I honestly have no idea. I spent a couple of years fine tuning Tainted Fairytale (currently the most popular chaptered story) before I actually released it and even with weekly updates, it took two years and a lot of changes to the plot before it was completed. I honestly don't think any of my currently released chaptered stories can beat that. I can't speak for the upcoming ones though, because I have a pretty exciting line up planned for the next one to two years ;)

Q: Which chaptered story is the least popular?
A: Breaking Free. Maybe I released it a few years too late? The idea was originally born during TVXQ's peak, somewhere around the Mirotic era. I only got around to releasing it two years ago.

Q: Which chaptered story has the longest word count?

A: No chaptered story can beat Tainted Fairytale for now. 100 chapters! 40 was my previous record! (I'm going by chapters because I don't actually know my own word counts.)

Q: Which chaptered story has the shortest word count?

A: Breaking Free with 19 chapters. I am still pissed I didn't round it off to 20 chapters.

Q: Which oneshot is the most popular?
A: Love Songs with Baekhyun starring (who else really) EXO's Baekhyun x Chanyeol in my first real attempt at writing fluff and romcom. I am honestly very, very touched and honoured with the response for this oneshot considering how I've never tried fluff (or romcom) before this. It was a challenge I took and I ended up with way more subscribers and upvotes on this oneshot alone than any of my chaptered stories. Beyond my imagination really. Then again, I released 8 special standalone bonus chapters for said oneshot... such logic.

Q: Which oneshot do you consider to be your underdog (aka better than the most popular one)?
A: I thought Beware starring EXO's Kai x Kyungsoo was an interesting one. But it featured a demented Kai, which might not exactly be everyone's cup of tea. P.S. Kyungsoo was getting stalked and he asks his best buddy Kai for help.

Q: Which oneshot is the least popular?
A: Chasing Dreams starring EXO's Chen x Zhang Li Yin (SM soloist/power house I LOVE HER). This oneshot was nothing fanciful really. It is stripped down to very basic human feelings (wants? desires? hunger?) for a better and brighter future, even at the expense of your true goals and dreams. There are no crazy plot twists.

Q: Which oneshot has the longest word count?
A:  Love Songs with Baekhyun wins this one (for now) only because of the 8 bonus chapters attached to it. I can foresee the Hairstylist series (all made up of romcom one shots) overtaking Love Songs in terms of word count since Hairstylist is gonna be made up of 6 EXO pairings/one shots. Currently only How-to: Make Your Hairstylist Love You (hunhan) and My Hairstylist Loves Me (chanbaek) are completed and published. The other four pairings/oneshots are upcoming.

Q: Which oneshot has the shortest wordcount?
A: Insta(nt) Love starring EXO's Sehun x Luhan. This was a completely random piece featuring a mildly stalkerish, popular yet uncertain pink-haired Luhan who finally meets the owner of proud unicorn hair (whom he has been stalking on Instagram), Sehun. The writing style is very different for this since I incorporated lots of Instagram "images" and "comments" for Luhan and Sehun's ig accounts, thus the low word count. What a test of my photoshop skills.

Q: Which are your top 3 favorite stories?
A:
Whoa, tough one. It's like asking me which child do I prefer although I gave birth to them all.
Perhaps 1) Tainted Fairytale, 2) Love Songs with Baekhyun, and 3) it's a tie between Creating Fairytale and It's a Trap for now.
I would've placed The Guide to Self Destruction in third place but that has not been officially released yet, only an exclusive preview is available. And all 100 slots are filled for the invitation function, so sadly I can't invite anyone else to this preview.

Q: Which are your 3 stories you dislike?
A: How do you dislike your child?

About the characters
Q: Which character was the most fun to write and why?

A: Baekhyun. Baekhyun in the Fairytale series and Baekhyun in Love Songs with Baekhyun. Also Baekhyun in the upcoming The Guide to Self Destruction. I don't know why, but Baekhyun gives me the impression of someone who is able to be molded into various different roles (if that makes sense).

The Baekhyun in the Fairytale series has so many confusing sides to him that even he himself is confused. The other characters in the Fairytale series carry deeply rooted hatred and are after revenge. It's straightforward with their emotions. But when it comes to Baekhyun, he has a deeply rooted resentment but he has yet to lose his all (unlike the others), and thus he has no desire for revenge, so to speak (even if Jong In the illegitimate child is really incorrigible and Jong In's mom who caused Baekhyun's mom to lose her mind is plain evil). At the same time he is exposed to various relationships be it true love, sibling love, or love for your child, so all these love is really confusing him. It does not help that he is in a contractual romantic relationship with his female OC.

The Baekhyun in Love Songs is much easier to read. He is sassy, unpretentious, and outspoken, but at the same time he is also insecure when it comes to maintaining his relationship with Chanyeol considering how the latter is his first love despite being a radio DJ hosting a show revolving love. The duo have so many silly interactions all day really, you have to read this piece to understand for yourself.

The Baekhyun in TGTSD has a twin sister (an OC) and they often cross dress to pass off as each other, helping each other out in various situations they'd otherwise want to avoid. This story hasn't been released yet so I won't delve into it, but Baekhyun and cross dressing is gonna get interesting for sure.

Q: Which character was really hard to write and why?
A: Hands down, HyunA in Tainted Fairytale. There were so many elements and aspects when it came to HyunA. She started the Fairytale series as a princess leading a sheltered world, but suddenly gets exposed to the cruelty of human greediness when her dad passes away in a planned accident. She is forced to instantly grow up, become a calculative person and learn the ways of life just to survive. The story spans across a 10 year gap, so it was definitey a challenge showcasing the evolvement of HyunA as a teenager into a working adult.

Q: Which character made you cry and why?

A: I honestly don't know. I hardly ever cry. If you've ever watched this Taiwanese movie titled Our Times, you'd know that so many people reviewed this movie as a tearjerker. Or if you've watched Korean movie, Miracles in Cell Number 7, you might remember this to be a supposed tearjerker too. I did not cry for either. So yeap, it's probably impossible to get me to cry with any fanfic as well. You are welcomed to try.

Q: Which character did you identify with and why?
A: Li Yin in Chasing Dreams. Perhaps it's because I'm at that age where I'm forced to consider my career options versus my dreams. I'm nearly going to face the quarter life crisis after all.

Q: Which character did you hate to write and why?
A: I don't know. Jong In in Living Hell? Living Hell was supposed to be the opposite of Beware (with a completely different story line). Kyungsoo was supposed to be the one going crazy in this one, but I felt like I showcased too little of Jong In and his personality. He just didn't shine through enough, not like how Kyungsoo did in Beware when Kai was the crazy one.

Q: Which character do you think is most like a real person (layers of character) and why?

A:  Perhaps Jongdae or Li Yin from Chasing Dreams. It may have been a very short piece, but I did mention enough by now that this oneshot was modeled very closely to everyone's fight between our dreams vs the supposed ideal career option. Okay I'd just be honest here I am basically Liyin in the fic, I eventually gave up my dreams and hopes like she did, though I downplayed it for the fic.

Which character are you most proud of and why?

A:  Sehun from the Fairytale series (surprise, surprise!). He's the only one who appears and plays a part in all 3 stories in this series and the challenge in writing his character is different from writing HyunA's. In Once Upon a Fairytale, he was an anger-driven confused teenager who tastes love for the first time and lost it just as quickly. In Tainted Fairytale, he struggles to move on with his loss while having to care for his sister (subsequently Baekhyun's love interest) and cleaning up the mess he'd made from attempting his revenge (which inadvertly led to HyunA's downfall from her princess throne). Over the course of 10 years he then matures into an intellectual lawyer who adopts a little girl and learns how to become a father and role model. Then in Creating Fairytale, not only is he going to showcase his improving daddy skills, he also has to learn to let go of his control over his sister whom he has protected with his life and finally, to completely let go of his lost first love. So much of evolving involved you might think he's a pokemon.

About recommendations
Q: Which story of yours would you recommend to read? And what is it about?

A: If you have plenty of time on your hands, the Fairytale series. You probably already know this is a story about revenge and growing/learning. And the main bulk of it is 100 chapters long, just reminding you about it!

But if you're not into the serious stuff, Love Songs with Baekhyun will hopefully have you squealing and rolling all over your floor giggling before dissolving into a puddle of goo. Baekhyun is a radio dj and Chanyeol is a novelist who gets embroiled in this sometimes insane radiobiz.

It's primarily a one shot and you can choose not to read the additional 8 bonus chapters, which are all standalone by the way, so you could selectively read the bonus chapters if you desire.

P.S. Special thanks to heclgehog for this survey! It's really amazing when you pause and look back at all the stories you've ever written. It's a pretty amazing feeling when you realize how much you've grown.

Ugh!, noona! You're post brings back so many memories... T_T I agree that Beware is such an underdog cause it was so well written and the chills, my God! I can feel just by remembering the damn thing. Also, as shameful for me to say this but, YOU WROTE Insta(nt) Love?! It was actually one of the first fics I read and loved it (but for some reason I can't remember, I didn't subscribe to it. Weird)! I hated Bully-dae though, he irritated me through out Lu Han's whole ordeal. And the picture of pink haried couple Hunhan at the beginning. Tihihihihihihihi... Anyways, hope to read more of your stories soon! I'm sorely tempted to start reading your Fairytale series but I fear that I might not be able to handle it (especially after reading Once Upon a Fairytale! UGH!). :3
