APPEARANCE » gather and behold, the sunkissed queen of melanin, della armstrong, represent. thanks to the genetic gifts bestowed upon her by both mama and papa armstrong, della stands at attention at an envious height of 174 cm. currently, she weighs in at 53 kg, and while bmi calculators provide their input that she is underweight, she has been quite notorious for her ridiculously fast metabolism. STYLE » hello, yes. welcome to pacsun. simply put, della dresses like a store display from pacsun or forever 21, and she's practically the epitome of instagram/tumblr fashion. she takes a lot of pride in the way that she dresses, so she makes a lot of effort to look #flawless, which is her one-way ticket to becoming the next nicki minaj. the most you can say about her overall choice in fashion is that it's relative yet fickle. she enjoys crop tops, bra top bustiers, high-waists, and cardigans. the colour black is life. adidas is forever welcome in her closet and on her body. 90s throwback fashion and loads of denim are cool. and she'd like to holler to all of the cattle out there for leather and bad-assery. character introduction» step aside, es. mama dee has entered the building. the younger sister of basketball power forward/center star, curtis armstrong, della was wildly known amongst local basketball society as the claremont high basketball team's manager (while being everyone's supportive little sister and the closest thing to a mother figure) and as coach buzzer's trusty assisstant back in the day. while the court itself wasn't her stage to shine, she was notorious behind the scenes for her clever strategies and plays that had the knack to work almost every time. if anything, della claims a solid, designated 35% for claremont high's basketball victory. besides her role of support towards the team, she was even more notable around town for spitting bars and fire at all of the school and neighbourhood rap battles as if the spirit of tupac shakur had somehow blessed her. della, with the hopes of pursuing a career in music, moved on over back to her birthplace of manhattan only to instead unintentionally occupy a career in modelling that leaves her simply rolling in financial stability. and yes, she knows that you have all seen her half . you're welcome.

— a native of es, derrick armstrong is arguably one of the tallest men that you will have ever met in your life, standing at a solid six feet and seven inches. following his high school graduation, he attended school at boston university to study physical therapy and, after a good period of less than a year, transferred to nyu where, long story short, he met his now-wife and mother to his children. derrick works primarily as a trustworthy and dependable physical therapist for those in centennial but also owns a gym located in the downtown boston area about fifty minutes away and is often found there on mondays and wednesdays. on the usual, he is described as highly outgoing, comical, broad-minded, and influential. he's like one of those people who you'd want to have a drink with on a friday night.

— "you may have grown up, but you're still my little girl." from the moment that derrick first laid eyes on his little darling daughter, he knew that he was an absolute baby-making god because boy was that child just beautiful. two beautiful children showcasing great genetic impact in a row, you can't go wrong there. jokes aside, he knew that he'd always want to be there for his daughter and become a great father and role model for her. TRUTH BE TOLD, since the time that della was a munchkin free-loader sitting around in diapers, she has always been more of a papa's girl, but that's usually how most girls are towards their fathers, right? her mother says it's because della was always drawn to derrick's bizarre height. haha. towards his children, he made sure to teach them to think for themselves and that it was okay to be open and a little liberal when it came to life in general. fondly, he let them know that it was okay to be afraid, but courage will take all in the end. derrick does get a little protective over della even though she's all grown up, but he understands her endeavor for independence that comes with age. upon all, nothing fills him with more joy than to hear della call him "old man".

 
meihui ( nÉe, xie ) ARMSTRONG | 55 | mama armstrong
— hailing from suzhou in china, she came to the united states at a young age because of a chance for opportunity and her mother's strong desire to come back home in new york city. growing up, meihui has been an avid reader and a strong admirer of literature, but because of it, she had often been teased for it on top of sporting gaudy grandpa glasses and having a mouth full of metal. to make matters worse, she was taller than most of her classmates and was awkward and lanky due to lack of coordination that came with her fast development. but in the end, she became a super babe in high school at a height of five feet and seven inches, so...it's obvious that this family has serious height. following graduation, she attended nyu, where she met derrick, working towards a major in literature and minor in english and an eventual phd. currently she is an english teacher for fourth years at claremont high school. she is commonly described as humble, compassionate, and wise.

— "the curves of your lips will one day rewrite history." for della armstrong, her mother is the most precious human being to have ever graced the entirety of the vast universe, and she would do anything to protect this beautiful, humbly shy woman from the dangers of the world. quite frankly, della would gladly destroy those who harm or insult her mother in any way and form. after all, this is the sole woman who pushed her out of her whom to bring her into this world. derrick only helped a little when it came to the whole baby making lmaoo. Believe it or not, it was actually meihui who introduced rap and hip hop into della's life. meihui made sure to emphasize poetry throughout her daughter's life. and even though derrick is more in tact with his kids, meihui and della still have a pretty special womanly bond with each other, which is something that derrick could never begin to achieve. there are simply times when it so much better to talk to a woman, who has been there and done that, about things that a woman goes through. you know, a woman's intuition can be quite stronger than a man's...and they tend to be better cooks too. "a mother isn't her grain of rice if she cannot empathize with her child" is what she often says.

 
CURTIS LIWEI ARMSTRONG | 28 | OLDER BROTHER
— a product of his parents' honeymoon, curtis was born and raised for a portion of his life in manhattan before being dragged down to es by his father. similar to the vast majority of his family, his height is literally no joke, standing solid at six feet and five inches. it sure is a wonder. no one is even surprised when he says that ball is life. primarily playing his position as center, and occasionally power forward, he uses his height to his advantage and proves to be a strong player on the court. upon winning the basketball championship, curtis was scouted by many universities including kansas, michigan state, louisville, kentucky, and, above all, duke where he eneded up going. though basketball was important to him, he simultaneously studied with a major in biomedical engineering. currently, he works as a coach's assistant for the boston celtics, waiting for his name to be on the roster, after they scouted him in desperation following his college graduation. just as his father, though he may seem intimidating, curtis is often described as sociable, buoyant, dedicated, upstanding, and down right idiotic ( when it comes down to his baby sister ).

— "and the brother of the year award goes to..." on terms of siblingship, della and curtis are almost inseparable. ever since they were ting and pissing in their pants and poking straws into juice boxes, they've always maintained a close knit relationship, never seeming to emit any form hatred towards each other. in many ways, curtis sees himself as the greatest older brother that humanity has to offer and constantly dotes on his adorable baby sister, incessantly calling to check in on her and remind her about 8343984 things and always seeming to brag to his peers about how "cute, talented, and accomplished" she is. lmao sister complex, much? that being said, curtis is indeed quite protective when it comes to della, even more so than papa. particularly in high school, he'd make sure that none of his team mates tried to get any closer to her than he felt that they needed to, and when she brought home a boyfriend, which wasn't very often to say the least, it was almost inevitable that they'd be questioned to the point of them running off into the abyss...as long as it wasn't near curtis. towards his actions, della sometimes does get a little feeling of annoyance, but she knows he probably only means well because he pretty much loves her more than he loves himself. she truly is grateful that this of a man is her older brother.
 
taryn gonzalez-king | 27 | best partner-in-crime
— born in sunny florida, st. augustine to be exact, she has been stuck in small town es, massachusetts ever since the age of four when her mother wished to go back home to take care of grandma lupe gonzalez, after the great divorce between taryn's parents. and it was very obvious that taryn has wanted leave es for ages. with the talents to come along with it, it has always been apparent to her that she wanted to make a living through what she loved the most: dancing. spending a summer with her aunt gigi escobar in the bronx amplified the desire by pretty much one thousand times. in high school, though she was still is the best friend of della, she wasn't very much involved with the basketball boys. but she did have a thing for della's older brother. that's another story tho. the school's dance team was where it was at, y'all, and hitting it up at dance battles was memorable. after high school graduation, a year after claremont high's first championship win, she hit it up in new york with della and eventually became a dance instructor. "la vida es bella." typically, she is described as passionate, erted, insightful, adventurous, and frisky.

— "girl, we're partners-in-crime for life. we're like a really small gang." since no one seemed interesting enough to fit her standards, taryn was never really close with anyone, that is, until della came around. there really wasn't anyone else who truly got the groove of hip hop like della did, so that factor really helped them develop as friends. they often made jams together and danced together, sticking together like super glue. and considering how similar that they are, it's no surprise that they consider each other partners-in-crime. point blank, the relationship between the two of them surpasses simple friendship, maybe even sisterhood. they're two peas in a pod, seemingly made for each other. hell, if the both of them didn't claim to be straight perhaps they'd be dating. i mean, they totally get each other and there are probably no two human beings on this earth who are as comfortable with each other as della and taryn are. they are never ever shameless around each other nor have they ever felt of a sense of discomfort. like if they're gonna change in front of each other, they're gonna do it. THEY'VE SEEN EACH OTHER LIKE SO MANY TIMES??? if one of them is going to barge into the bathroom while the other is taking a bath or, , even a , they're going to do it. ual innuendos? erted comments towards each other? cool. like there are no s given. they've both stopped caring. the amount of the lack of shame is almost too ridiculous. but it also sets the pretense that there is no judgement in their relationship, and flaws become nothing less than perfections. literal match made in heaven, no doubt. thanks buddha and jesus, y'all the real homies.

— throughout her sixty-three years of living, auntie sue has lived innumerably. born in early 1950s new orleans, even a young girl with a white father (who had abandoned her nonetheless) and a french-creole background couldn't escape the cruel becomings of racial discrimination for the reason of having the features of her black mother. if anything, growing up was a true task of suffering; after all, there was no room for the "vixen's" daughter "black sue" with the whites nor was there much room for "white sue" with the blacks. her world seemed to consist only of her civil rights activist mother who treated her as the universe in all of its glory. during her years as a young woman and quite the looker, she was often faced with many young suitors, particularly those from the us navy. why the us navy, you ask? who knows? new orleans was by the sea. you could say that she messed around a bit, being a lover of men, but despite this fact, she never married and instead turned her genuine love towards cooking, opening up a fairly popular food joint before passing it off to her cousin and moving to massachusetts, ending up being a vital part of coach buzzer's diner.

TO DELLA, AUNTIE SUE IS THE GREATEST GIFT OF A HUMAN BEING THAT THE UNIVERSE COULD HAVE EVER PROVIDED PLANET EARTH. LOL SORRY CURTIS AND TARYN. there has more or less been a deep connection between della and auntie sue. when the armstrong family first moved to centennial grove, della was quite troubled having just moved to a small town from a large city and away from her old classmates. auntie sue was the one to fix that lack of vigor. afterall, sHE relates well and has NEVER CHANGED PERSONALITY-WISE. JUST AS SHE WAS LONG AGO, SHE IS A FEISTY WOMAN FILLED WITH SUCH INAPPROPRIATE HUMOUR WHO YOU CAN COUNT ON TO give you amazing life lessons and advice. but don't think that you can come to diner to ask for her help without eating...because she's not gonna let you leave unless she serves you a plate of good food whether or not if it's on the house. she takes food, eating, nutrition, and feeding her people quite seriously.
