Personality:

{Politely Sharp-tongued} He's praised often for being so well-mannered to his elders. Sometimes it's like being rude is difficult for him. But that doesn't mean he doesn't have a sharp tongue (but mostly towards his close friends). He's also very easygoing, and will go with along with anything unless he's absolutely opposed to it, or absolutely hates it.

{The Gullible Prankster} Living with a family with already three children has made Seunghwan the jokster he is today. As a child, he and Daniel, the oldest of the Kang siblings, planned and executed pranks on the twins very often. Nowadays, he doesn't prank as often as he used to, but sometimes he has a certain sense of humor that very few people can understand. But he always loves a good pun. Despite being a prankster himself, Seunghwan is quite gullible and has been pranked on a lot himself. Due to his mixed cultural background, sometimes he can be a bit slow-minded when it comes to certain jokes or puns.

{"You can count on me." - The Perfectionist in him... } Seunghwan likes to be trusted. Therefore he's extremely loyal to his close friends. He loves it when people entrust things to him, giving him the chance to prove himself as responsible and the chance to show his leadership at times. Although nothing else needs to be done to the letter, music composition and the art of his music, itself, are very important to him and he'll spend hours upon hours to fix things up until they're exactly the way he wants it. At the very least, it has to be close to perfect for him, otherwise he'll be discontented with his work. He's ultimately very humble and even after an amazing performance, he'll tell you that it wasn't good enough, and that he still needs to work much harder. Seunghwan loves to do collaborations, but most of everything else, he'll take up all the work himself because he doesn't want to burden. He's always up for a good challenge or a good thrill.

{The Reckless Twin..and the Child within} Despite being so responsible and caring when it comes to his friends, he's also very childish. He's a prankster, a jokester, and a fatherly child. He can't help that he's always got his friends on his mind and he worries over them excessively at times. He isn't necessarily openly overprotective,  but if someone messes with his loved ones, they better be expecting some sort of stealthy retailiation--be it public humiliation or violent confrontation. He worries a lot for others and not enough for himself, hecne his reckless behavior and adventurous taste in sports. When he's around  young children also, he's caring and fatherly, but he'll play around with them as if he's their age as well.

{Don't judge a book by its unathletic cover...} Despite how small and fragile he looks, in middle school he was a part of the school's athletic teams, and he also took part in club teams throughout the year. In high school, he played for varsity from his freshmen year to his senior year. His main sports were basketball, soccer (football), tennis, and swimming. He also ran for track. He has a love for extreme sports (wakeboarding, waterskiing, surfing, snowboarding, paintballing, mountainbiking, etc.) and will take on any challenge given to him in sports, or in music. But, on the contrary, he's very lazy at home. When they were younger, Seunghwan and Erin did figure skating together.

{Kind of, sort of, messy... but it's an organized mess!} Seunghwan had a very messy apartment when he lived alone before and his room now is just as messy, but he promises that he can find anything he needs within that mess...given at least five minutes... There's a reason why Erin comes over often, she's his housekeeper. (Just kidding!...but really, she can't stand his mess sometimes and ends up cleaning and organizing for him...) He would much rather laze around, perhaps even play video games, rather than clean his messy living space... He's got good reasons for his messes, if you count working on compositions all the time and being out doing his thrilling sports.

{Emotional, way too much...or perhaps he's just a crybaby?} He gets very attached to fictional characters and is easily prompted to cry, whether it be tears of joy or tears of sadness. Even when things don't apply to himself he may cry. He's not easily angered between people (except for those mentioned as enemies...), but he can get pretty heated when it comes to movies, shows, or books. Even if he doesn't have a temper, like Erin or Victoria, he'll secretly hold grudges. Some will be petty, but most have "good reasons" *coughJaemincough*...

{Musical book covers shouldn't be judged either!} Seunghwan has a sweet face and a small build, but his powerful voice and charisma on stage matches that of a hip hop artist rather than a ballad singer. It doesn't mean that he won't sing ballads, he'll sing (and well, too), but he prefers the energy of hip hop over the smooth and calming ballads.

 

Background:

Kim Seunghwan, and his twin brother Jinhwan, were born in Jeju. He lived there for the first three years of his life, until the family decided to go on vacation in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A. It was during the daytime in Chinatown that he found himself lost in the large crowds.  After wandering alone for hours, scared and in an unfamiliar place, Seunghwan was found by Victoria and Kibum Kang curled up and crying in the Boston Commons. They took him in for a few days after filing a report with the police. Two weeks later, when no one claimed him, the Kangs reluctantly brought him to an orphanage to be taken care of. However, he had already gotten close to the couple and their three children. He cried every night they were gone, and due to his inability to speak English as a foreigner, no one could really understand or communicate with him.

A few days later, the family was called back to take him back up, but due to their own financial problems and a scheduled move to Oklahoma City, they ultimately worked it out with the orphanage to transfer him to one in Oklahoma so that he would be able to stay close with the family. Although he officially lived at the orphanage, he mostly lived with the Kangs and was practically like family. Since he spent so much time with the family, Seunghwan was in middle school when he discovered he had fallen in love with Minseo/Erin. He had started liking her more than a friend before but he hadn’t really noticed himself until he was graduating from middle school. He moved with the family to Seoul and attended the same high school as Erin and Johnathan (twins).

The entire Kang family was rather musical: with the parents having musical pasts and the twins having found a passion for music in first grade, music soon grew on Seunghwan himself. Then, when the twins heard him singing along to their songs, they encouraged him to join in with their music channel and just to sing with them in general.

Once they moved to Seoul, he joined the twins as they auditioned for multiple companies. He was accepted along with them into SM Entertainment and was set to debut as a vocalist for EXO, so he stayed in the company even when the twins left and joined ibighit. At the very last minute, before they released his personal teaser for EXO, they decided to drop him, changing EXO from a 13-membered group to only 12 members and the public would never know of his existence in the music scene…until he found himself signing with DH Entertainment after meeting Taeyoon and Tiger at the bar where he and Erin were performing, in 2012. He quickly recognized them from his trainee years in SME as members from Double H and soon the four of them settled down to talk together for a few drinks. After he told his story, he was invited to join DHE which he happily accepted within the next half-hour, without too much thought.

2013: Since Erin was a big fan of YG Artists, she was watching "WIN: Who Is Next" when she discovered that Kim Jinhwan looked unmistakably familiar to someone she knew. Then the next time she saw Seunghwan she told him that they had an uncanny resemblance to each other. At the same time, Jinhwan has been searching for his twin brother through letters/e-mails to the orphanages ever since he found out that his parents had been hiding the fact that they lost his twin when they were on vacation in Boston (he doesn't really remember the vacation either since he was 3-years-old). When he became old enough to understand why his mother was so heartbroken when staring at a photo album of his baby pictures (of him and Seunghwan), he made it his goal to find his brother again and bring him home.

The two of them first met when Erin pulls Seunghwan out to go shopping for shoes with her. She had wandered off on her own to look at some sneakers for herself after the two of them found some shoes for her brothers. He was on the other side of the store when Erin accidentally bumped into Jinhwan and talked to him as familiarly as she would with Seunghwan. When he gave her a shocked, confused expression she thought it was just Seunghwan playing a joke on her. Seunghwan walks over to ask Erin for her opinion between two shoes when he finds himself face-to-face to his twin brother in surprise and disbelief from their resemblance.

Since their accidental encounter, the two brothers have tried their best to make up for lost time. Seunghwan goes to everything he can to support his brother and has spent as much time as he possibly can with his birth parents in the past few years. The two of them are very ecstatic about debuting around the same time (Fall 2015).

→ He learned how to play piano, guitar, violin, cello, saxophone, flute and the drums, like the Erin and Johnathan since their parents invited him to learn with them. However, his favorite instruments are cello, piano and guitar.
→ His backpacks have a key chain on every single zipper and he has at least two key chains on each key that he owns... (it's an obsession, he just doesn't admit it...)

Appearance: Due to his small build, Seunghwan looks rather frail and not much like a fighter. However, built from his love of extreme sports, he has the strength of any such athlete. He's relatively short in comparison to most of his friends, but he doesn't mind. "Height doesn't mean a thing when it comes to the person," he has told many when teased about his height. He likes his hair as close to the color black as possible, but is alright with light brown and perhaps dirty blonde. He's not a fan of anything too bright, but if asked to, he'll do it.

No matter what outfit he's wearing, and whether or not it clashes with it, Seunghwan always wears a dark, yellow-ish green G-Shock watch on his left wrist since it's a set he shares with the Kang Twins (Erin wears the blue one, and Johnathan wears the pink one). The watch is one of the only things he's stubborn about when it comes to his style. He has a small trail of music notes tattooed under his left ear down to the middle of his neck and two cartilage ring piercings (one gold, one silver) on the top of his right ear.

Style: He perfers to wear comfortable outfits and usually simple colors. He used to hate the attention he got around school, so he would've much rather blended in with the student population than stick out with interesting clothes. Even as an idol, he'll prefer to wear simple outfits, casual outfits. However, he's very easygoing and will go with anything given to him by his outfit coordinators.

Nicknamed Kangjun, Johnathan is shy, unlike both his siblings and can't do the nervewracking activities that Seunghwan does. But that doesn't stop him from trying to spend as much time with Seunghwan as possible. To Johnathan, his best friend and his favorite "brother" would be Seunghwan. He's just as musical as Erin and him, but after not being able to follow up the rigorous training schedules and dance workshops at SM Entertainment, he left the company and picked up his studies at a university. Unlike both Erin and Seunghwan, Johnathan was much more studious and could take advanced courses while he made music. Only one person--Erin--knows Johnathan's biggest secret: that he's ually oriented towards males rather than females. Seunghwan, due to his protectiveness and the love he shows towards all the Kang siblings, was and currently still is Johnathan's first crush.

He's fun to be around for Seunghwan and when they're together (and with Taeyoon of course), they're all fun and games, rarely ever serious. He's the only cousin who's actually close to Seunghwan and has taken the time to learn about him. The first person that comes to mind when Seunghwan's planning on going out and doing an extreme sport would be Jackson since he's fit enough and he'd enjoy it too. Occassionally, Mark will tag along too, but he'll always ask Jackson when he's asking a group of friends to go with him.

Olsun can be strict on Seunghwan when it comes to his music since he procrastinates, and he may be tough on him sometimes, but that's exactly what he needs to push him to do the best he can when he's feeling like procrastinating.

Personally, Seunghwan thinks he's a scheming little bastard that pulled some strings to get him dropped from EXO instead of himself. On screen, the two of them look like the best of friends, but behind closed doors, they're each other's arch enemy. They used to get into violent fights before too, which were usually broken up by Baekhyun (unsuccessfully), Kris, and/or Chanyeol. Seunghwan can say with quite the satisfaction that he's a much better fighter than Sehun.

As singers, and both competitive people, both of them share a rivalry in their singing. However, he does admire the older for his acting abilities. When he was rooming with EXO as trainees, D.O. used to pick things out and scold Seunghwan a lot, so he's not very fond of him. The two of them can share a decent conversation, but things can turn real sarcastic and dark real quickly. No fist fights like with Sehun, but lots of biting and insulting words are more or less exchanged.

Erin treats Seunghwan as if he's her older brother, but he desperately wants more than that. She's overprotective of her siblings to the point that she ends up getting into fights that sometimes take a violent turn. Seunghwan is usually there to watch over her and make sure she's alright. He's definitely there when she needs nursing or caring for. Like her mother, Victoria, Erin is hot-tempered and impatient. She grew up with three boys in the house and is therefore very boyish in her style and especially the way she talked. For the longest time, she would refer to older boys as "hyung" instead of "oppa." Her siblings have convinced her to be more respectful and at least a bit more feminine, so now she'll willingly wear make-up, dress up and call boys "oppa."

Meeting: When he was brought home by Erin's parents, but she was only 1-year-old.

Interactions: Originally, Seunghwan wanted to be an athlete, or to be a participant in the X Games, or even the Olympics (figure skating with Erin). However, when he found out that Erin loved his voice and that she believed he had an amazing talent in music, he decided on joining the Korean music scene with her. Despite her cold demeanor, Erin loves to poke fun at Seunghwan, especially when he makes his language mistakes in Cantonese. She visits him often, and occassionally with Johnathan, but whenever he's free, Seunghwan will go and hang out with her and perhaps Starlightz. They text each other often and even do video calls. However, Erin probably sees Seunghwan as a brother more than a potential love interest and he desperately wants to change that. But, at the same time, he wants to keep their relationship the way it is. One thing's for sure...he doesn't want to lose her to Jaemin.

 

 

Love Rival: Yook Jaemin

Status: Erin's crush (and vice versa...)

Occupation: Full-Time University Student; Part-Time Coffee Shop Barista

Personality: Cheerful, Friendly, Clumsy, Messy, Athletic, Studious. Jaemin seems like the perfect man for any girl, and especially for Erin. He's hard to beat, especially since Erin sees Seunghwan as her older brother. Jaemin's captain of the university's basketball club and also a star swimmer for the swim team. He's easy to approach and has many friends at the university. He's not much of a musician, but he's had a good share of piano and guitar in his childhood--enough to be accepted by the Kang twins as a good musician. He's a musician, he's an athlete, and he's also quite studious and unlike Seunghwan, he doesn't procrastinate.

Meeting: Jaemin and Seunghwan first met at the bar at one of Erin's gigs because he had been away often as an SM Trainee (and later as a trainee under DH Entertainment.)

Interaction(s): It was easy for him to tell that Jaemin was interested in Erin and the other way around. And, of course, Seunghwan didn't like that... He's found that Mr. Perfect, Jaemin is quite hard to beat. All the more reason for him to hate him. Jaemin views him as another brother of Erin's to gain approval from and doesn't see Seunghwan as a love rival. He knows that Seunghwan doesn't like him and he strives to change that. However, Seunghwan is set on hating him and finds the pettiest reasons to speak badly against him as well as the strangest reasons to be openly angry towards him. Johnathan likes him, and so does Daniel, so it's difficult for Seunghwan to be too mean.
