☇ Second Chance ✕ Zhu, Qi ✕ Tired

zhu, qi

the basics.

name » Zhu, Qi ( 朱氣, pronounced 'chee' )

nickname(s) »
- Seven / Anybody, especially scientists, and Jongin / Qi's name actually translates to 'air,' but without seeing the character, some people could assume her name is of the number 7. Also, because the first scientist and her father operated on her, they added the number 7 after her body part serial numbers to make her unique.
- Key / Her father, Jongin / When she was being hidden away so as not to be at the hands of the Malri, her father had called her the key to the battle even if he had no idea how her changes would affect her. It's also a play on her name if one didn't know how to pronounce 'Qi' right. Jongin only calls her this when he discovers a drawing of a key inside her leg when he tries to fix it.

age » 24 years old

ethnicity » Chinese

language »
- Chinese / fluent, first native language
- English / moderate, learned from both her parents
- Korean / moderate, learned from her father and lived in Seoul for 2 years

face claim » Jung, Minhee (2)

backup face claim » El

appearance » Back in 2081 before she went under, Qi had caramel brown hair that was dyed several colors at the tips (like in the picture shown), so when she wakes up again, her hair is still the same color except that her hair is straightened (like in this picture). Without the bright lights like in the picture, Qi is actually quite tan and doesn't have milky skin at all. She stands at 155 cm (~5'1") and her weight has varied because of her body changes. Prior to obtaining the new metalwear, she was at 46 kg. After, she had gained approx. 3-4 kg. She has dark brown eyes but only if one looks close enough, her left eye is actually a dark red color that becomes more visible if a bright light is shown directly on it. She doesn't have any visible scars unless she undressed and one looked under her jawline and along her hairline. She also doesn't have visible metal limbs, but she does have serial numbers on her left inner arm, left side of her torso above her hip, and left anterior leg right below her pelvis from when scientists created the body parts for her a long time ago. All the numbers say 1088-7.

" There must be a reason why I'm still alive. Why? "

i am who i am.

plotline » The Tired ( Independence )

personality »
(+) adaptable, genuine, dependable
(-) realist, detached, impolite

Qi is more-or-less, an adaptable person. Ever since she was young, she was able to come to new terms and conditions quickly and efficiently, not really having much of a problem acclimating to a new environment and acting accordingly to fit the situation. She is flexible and she knew her parents were always so happy with that, knowing that she would agree to most things without much fuss. She's also a genuine person, always saying what's on her mind when prompted and mostly wearing her heart on her sleeve (more like her eyes, explained in trivia below). She sees no reason in lying when they've made it so far into the history books that she deems it useless to try and hide anything that can prevent the survival of the human race. Because of this, she's also a dependable person despite not believing herself to be one. She is trustworthy and a reliable person to befriend. Others can rely on her because of her adaptable and sincere nature, but she just doesn't understand it.

However, Qi has developed a realist point-of-view of the world and has shown to be quite impolite with how she acts with others when she speaks to them because of it. She has a firm understanding of the world they live in and still believes that they will lose the fight against these foreign beings because there's simply no chance in surviving against aliens as strong as the Malri. She doesn't explicitly cut people off when they talk about winning the war or surviving long enough to see it, but her word choice can make it seem like she's just an insulting person in general. Despite this though, she's not necessarily pessimistic, and she never was. She just took things as they are.

She's also noticeably detached, given in the way that she sees everything from an objective point-of-view which contributes to her realistic side in thinking that humanity won't win this war. This has also led her to become nonchalant about a lot of things, being mild-mannered. She's just unnervingly calm in the most dire of situations and not many people understand that about her. She just thinks she's so used to everything that there's not much to get her riled up about anything.

trivia »
- She doesn't remember when was the last time she truly smiled, so smiling feels abnormal to her. The way to tell her emotions is through her eyes and little quirks of her lips.
- Because the left side of her body has been tampered with, she thinks that the left side of her brain has also been messed with. The left side of the brain is in most control with logics, and it's one of the things she keeps insisting on Jongin about, to see if the scientists long ago messed with her brain as well. It would explain her eerily calm and realistic side with life.
- She doesn't necessarily need to eat. Her stomach had been changed to where she only needs fluids to keep her body in shape. However, she can eat if she wants to or somebody offers her food.
- If she does eat, she loves dumplings and mocha bread.
- She's still able to reproduce and have children.

- She loves observing changes made to any human or cyborg (or just people-watching in general). She still has memories of watching scientists experiment on humans so she likes the feeling of almost being in the past from watching them.

Strengths»
- Qi can analyze a person's strength and weaknesses with her left eye in percentages (like riko aida from knb) as well as see memories from the past if she's not focused on the present and surroundings around her. She can also zoom in on an object or scenery whenever she wanted.
- Her left side is noticeably stronger than her right side, given that all the modifications to her body were made on that side to try and compensate her being a right-handed dominant person. Her strength makes it easier to jump up to higher places than normal with her left leg and she can deliver a nasty punch with her left hand. She can also withstand a kick to the left side with minimal-close to no damage at all.
- She has better hearing in her left ear than her right.

- Unknown to her, her father, mother, and the scientists instilled something close to her heart which will hopefully prolong her life and help keep up with her mechanical side, a backup energy source that would kick in if she were to ever go into cardiac arrest and would mechanically pump her heart until that source runs out as well.

weaknesses»
- Qi cannot see in the dark. Her left eye is useless without any source of light to help her see. This is what contributes to her fear of complete darkness.
- Her left leg never had a complete upgrade from 2310 when scietists were trying to work on it before the attack. Sometimes, while she is fighting or running, a small section of her left upper thigh would pop open at the stress inflicted upon it and it would make it difficult for her to walk without a very noticeable limp or crackling sound. (around the area like rina from time of eve)

- Because she only had modifications done to the left side of her body, her right side is noticeably weaker and can get injured more easily than the left side of her body.
- Despite her left side being stronger, she mostly still has the endurance of a normal human. She can train and keep up with others, but her heart is still very much human and is subjected to severe amounts of stress.

my past doesn't matter, does it.

background » Zhu Qi was born on February 4, 2285 in Beijing, China. Her mother was an elementary school teacher while her father worked with the government in China. Because of her parents' positions, her mother knew more English while her father knew English and some Korean and together, they taught Qi relatively easy phrases and how to converse in each language. They stayed in China until they received a call for help to develop more cyborgs to battle the Malri in 2307. It was then when Qi was 22 that she moved to Seoul with her parents to figure out what they could do to help prevent the sudden attacks now focusing in on that area (since it was a smaller country than China).

For two years, Qi had watched the world slowly descend into a deeper sense of dread, of chaos. She had stayed inside the main government facility with her family, watching as humans would come in with false hopes of transforming into what humans in the past first thought unachievable. She stood behind glass windows, watching as men, women, and children were put to sleep only to be transformed into half-metal beings, new test subjects to be thrown out into the battlefield and come back as metal scraps and unrecognizable bodies. At first, she worried for the children, but after watching so many come back as failures, her concern slowly dwindled down to nothing at all.

It was only then when she had turned 24 that she was offered the chance to become a test subject, her father becoming desperate with trying to win this war she knew they were losing. She wouldn't be surprised that the amount of people they lost with the experiments equaled the amounts of citizens they lost outside the facility. Her mother protested heavily, but Qi didn't want to see her parents die in front of her eyes. She treasured them too much (considering she was an only child and really only ever hung out with her parents back then) and agreed to become an experiment. She had no problems with it, her pain tolerance surprisingly pretty high even by her father's standards.

They started small though, per her mother's request. At first, they only changed the left side of her face, still assuming that most of their opponents were right-handed (since they looked human, they must act like most humans, right?). When she woke up, she still looked and felt the same but when she went through a trial-and-error process, they realized her new bionic eye and metal skeleton underneath worked prefectly except she couldn't see in the dark. She was subjected through more tests, next her left arm until eventually the left side of her body had the metal skeletal system underneath her skin, including a harder, protective barrier to surround her still human heart. Qi has always been right-hand dominant, so it only made sense to strengthen her left side to help counterbalance her stronger right side.

It wasn't until another year later in 2310 while scientists were trying to make another change to her leg that their facility got attacked. Qi was put to sleep for the changes, but she never woke up, instantly being transferred somewhere where the Malri would assume she was already dead when she had merely been asleep from the amount of anesthesia put into her system. It was unknown as to how she was frozen, but while she had been asleep and the medicine wore off, she had been frozen to hopefully be helpful in the future. (explained below in love interest section)

The next time she woke up, it was 3078 and it looked like nothing had changed since she last went under except for the fact she had no idea why she was in some obscure part of a broken facility and why there were skeletal remains everywhere (as well as the scientific team who she can't recognize at all). She explored the area until she realized that nothing had changed. The Malri still continue to rule the Earth and nothing they ever did changed anything. Even with the changes to her body, humanity was still losing. But she couldn't understand. Why she was still alive?

family & Friends of the past»
- Zhu, Jin / father / Qi always felt like her and her father were close despite him always leaving to do something to try and help the world fight against these aliens. She would be the one he could go to who would understand his reasonings about why he does things, and it's because of this is why he trusted his daughter so much and eventually thought she would be his last resort in fighting these aliens.
- Li, Fang / mother / While Qi's father was more on the logical and reasonable side in her mind, her mother was the one who was more creative and openly caring. She was like a typical mother to Qi but with her profession as a teacher, she also always taught Qi random life lessons and sometimes just tried to bring out the lowkey emotions from her daughter.
- Kim, Mina / main scientist who operated on her / Mina was like another mother to Qi, except she was her mother within the lab and facility. She would make sure Qi had eaten that day or had not eaten before an experiment and constantly reassured her that she would only be installing the best of the best within her body. Qi doesn't know it, but Mina becomes Jongin's ancestor when she wakes up again in 3078.

does love still exist.

love interest » Kim, Jongin (EXO)

backup love interest » Kim, Sungjoo (UNIQ)

Species» Human
age» 21

background» Unknown to Qi, Jongin was a descendant of one of the scientists who operated on her almost a thousand years ago. His family has always been a part of the scientific community within the government and had always passed down their notes from generation to generation in hopes of creating the ultimate cyborg to help defeat the Malri when the time comes. The scientist who was working on Qi died the day they tried to save her but when the husband came to see what had become of the place long after the Malri were done with that area, he had discovered a sleeping girl there and had immediately remembered she was the one his wife had been working on to change into a cyborg. He immediately moved to freeze her before leaving the area to write a note in the journal Jongin would find years later where it had been compiled with countless other stories of failures and successes with the cyborg community.

In the day and age of 3078, it wasn't surprising that complete humans had an early fatality rate, dying by the age of 42 at the latest. Jongin was born in 3057 and had grown to 15 years old before his parents had died at the hands of the Malri. His parents had been 39 when they passed and he took it as his duty to continue their research and experimentations despite his young age. He'd always been brilliant with technology and had always liked reading, so older scientists accepted him into the group easily.

personality » Jongin is strong, mentally and physically, especially having been born after the invasion of the Malri and humans have been constantly finding a way to survive without completely transforming into a robotic warrior. He can hold his own at his young age and surprisingly still has the strong passion and desire to search for new meanings and new creations where others at this time would simply give up after the first one or two times of failures or successes. He's hardworking but can be idiotically stubborn, continuing to work on something on two hours of sleep until he passes out for who knows how long. He won't give up until he completes whatever task he sets his mind to, and sometimes it worries others because of his insane persistence.

Despite all this though, he tends to be a quiet man who's actually still quite a child at heart. He's always loved reading and going out to explore, even as a child, and even if it only meant that he was going to a new part of a lab one day. He has a fascination with learning new things and is actually quite creative any time anywhere. He can come up with the most bizarre solutions to the simplest problems, but sometimes, they aren't enough to try and survive in this world. However, he's also kind and caring, having a contradictory spark of innocence in him that only an innocent child can have nowadays when he's with those he deems as special friends and others he wants to protect.

First meeting » Jongin was actually the first person Qi met after she woke up, having gone back to the old facility to see if his ancestors' journals were right in storing away an old cyborg and freezing her. He was surprised to find her still there, asleep. He greeted himself formally to her when she awoken but allowed her to scout out the area and try to get used to what had happened.

interactions» Jongin is forever fascinated with Qi and how she operates. He continues to go through old notes from his ancestors and create new ones and tries to fix up Qi the best way he knows how. He feels like he has a personal connection with her because his family was crucial in making her who she is now. He likes observing her and knows she likes observing him too. She's not too discrete about it and Jongin always likes teasing her about it too. Qi just finds it interesting that a human is willing to do so much for an old cyborg like her, and she hates to think about what would happen in the future if Jongin were to die. She's a realist and although she doesn't think of herself as a pessimist, the amount of time she has spent with Jongin just makes her think more and more about this as the days go on. She takes it as her duty to protect him whenever she can, and in return, he tunes up her leg and makes sure she's okay as well. They have a give and take type of relationship, and it's obvious that the two care more about each other than Qi lets them know. (She also thinks she has a special relation to him simply because he looks like the old scientist in the past and that he was the first person she saw when she woke up.)

last words.

comments/suggestions » otl. i tried not to make everything too long. i hope it was an enjoyable read and that there weren't any major mistakes ;; i can change anything if needed, there's just so much potential ;u;

scene requests »
- A moment when Qi is trying to battle some aliens and her foreign limbs keep up with her until after the battle is done and her leg suddenly malfunctions and she can't walk on it.
- A scene where Jongin fusses about her leg ( otl, i can't help think of something funny for this )
- A scene where Qi overreacts and panics because she's surrounded by complete darkness and she can't see anything but can hear something in the room with her.
- A cute scene like in that gif above where Jongin is just observing Qi doing something and then he suddenly shows affection towards her.
- A scene where somebody looks her in the eye closely for the first time and actually notice her two different eye colors.
- A scene where Jongin traces her serial numbers with his fingers while he tries to tune her up.
- There are so many chances for angst, omg. i love it.
- otl, i may add more later if that's okay with you ;u;
