There was something about the rain today.

It beat simultaneously with her heart, circulating throughout her body.

She shivered as she heard him strum his guitar to the pit-a-pat of her heart.

And then the melody changed, no longer the steady rhythm of a healthy heart.

It was broken, and so was she.  

Who was at fault here? The one who’d closed the door a long time ago, or the one who never tried to unlock it again?

Today, the melody of his guitar left her cold. Today, the song wasn’t for her. Today, the owner of the guitar was lost to her.

She stood in front of the unmarked doors. She heard the instructions ring through her mind, pick the right door and a surprise waits inside.

            Pick the wrong door, and you’ll be left with nothing but a cold, hollow room- an empty heart.

Which one was it? The one that she closed? So long ago, that she even forgot where she kept the spare keys.

Was it all up to chance? To fate? Or to her rotten luck?
