Happy

The light flicked on in the bathroom as Kyung stumbled into it. His head, prompted by the light, put him into a heavy daze for a moment before he was able to move forward to the sink. He leaned heavily on it, fumbling with the faucet for a moment before cold water streamed out of it. His hands stuck out under the water, relaxing at the cold sensation as he got a handful and placed it over his face, letting it run down his face and neck, wetting the neck of his t-shirt. He could still feel Jaehyo's lips on him.

They had met at a party a few hours previous, before all of the alcohol had been downed. Or maybe before that. Kyung's head felt dense with misplaced memories, the only distinct one being when he first saw the other sitting nonchalantly on the couch. He had known instantly he wasn't a part of his ring of friends, and so he formed the same assumption that he was someone's date. Whose date he didn't know, but through the small pockets formed by the crowd Kyung could see his doe eyes dancing across the scene, taking everyone in with an interest he wanted to be looked at with. Without thinking he was crossing the room to meet him.

After washing his face Kyung took his shirt off, dropping it to the ground and quickly doing the same with his boxers. Exposed, he wobbled over to the shower and pulled out the nob. A rush of cold water came out and without a moment's hesitation he was under it, letting it wet his hair and run down his back and legs as his eyes closed. He could see the other's eyes more clearly now.

They looked misted when Kyung sat next to him. It was apparent that he wasn't sober -cheeks flushed, eyes fogged, and Kyung couldn't help but let out a small chuckle at the cuteness of it. He seemed naïve.

“Bad date?” He prompted, the doe eyed boy laughing in response. A grin formed on Kyung's face. “Where are you from?”

“Daegu. Ex-girlfriend's here but she broke up with me. She was my date.” The alcohol was clearly influencing what the boy said, because only a moment later his hands were over Kyung's mouth, doe eyes bigger than before. “Don't tell anyone, please! I don't know anyone. I'm just here to drink now.” Kyung laughed, gently pulling the his hands down from his mouth.

“I won't tell...”

Slowly regaining his motor skills Kyung began washing himself. First he applied shampoo to his hair, rubbing it in good before applying a quick coat of conditioner. The smells traveled to his nose -coconut, berries, maybe milk?- and he was quickly brought back to the boy.

With his loose tongue Kyung quickly found out that his name was Jaehyo, and he was a college student who worked as a model on the weekends, but had no real passions beside acting and photography. Kyung was fascinated by the other, and he let him talk until his words seemed to run out, giving Kyung a soft smile before looking down at the beer can between his legs. He got the sense that he never got to talk about himself much, and that maybe he embarrassed himself by talking too much, so he offered to get him another drink. Jaehyo had nodded excitedly, but right as Kyung stood there was a hand gripping his shirt, pulling his face down next to his. The smell of coconut filled the small space between them. Kyung felt like he couldn't breathe.

“Let's take shots.”

Part of Kyung was concerned that he might be drinking too much, or depending on the alcohol because of his recent break up, but he felt like he couldn't say no. It was like his smell, his whole persona had wrapped around him in that small suggestion, his words having let small puffs of air tickle his lips, making his stomach churn nervously. Of course he said yes.

Kyung doused his hair with water, the suds and soaps streaming down his body. He felt better already, the steam from the hot water clearing his head, and he halfheartedly scrubbed his hair clean. For a moment he fumbled around the small shower, looking for the soap before finding a liquid bottle on the ground. Uneasily he picked it up, unfamiliar with the type but not caring, and began washing himself with it. His hands rubbed his arms, gripping slightly, and once more he was lost in thought.

Jaehyo's hands were on his wrists, pulling him onto the small balcony of the apartment. It was four shots later and the pair was a giggling mess. Jaehyo couldn't walk straight, but he was determined to lead Kyung onto the balcony to show him the view.

Kyung had seen the view of Seoul before from many different angles, but he let the doe eyed boy lead him anyways. He already felt that he would do anything for him.

“Look!” Jaehyo exclaimed, his finger pointing upwards and towards the top of the building across the street. At first Kyung saw nothing, just an expanse of black, before his eyes adjusted and he caught site of a diamond shaped object caught on something.

“A kite?” Kyung questioned, giggling and looking over at the other. His eyes were still fixated on it.

“Why do you think they were flying it?” Kyung felt stumped for a moment, why were they flying it?

“Because it was windy?” He offered, grinning at how bad his response was, and laughing when the other shot him an incredulous look.

“Well wasn't that deep!” Jaehyo said sarcastically, trying to lean forward for effect but instead stumbling into Kyung. His back hit the railing, arms encasing Jaehyo as he now leaned against him, laughter muffled into his chest. Kyung felt himself redden, arms stiffly around the other. Jaehyo stood on his one for a moment before slumping against him again, causing both to laugh shyly, the party being all but forgotten to Kyung.

Kyung was slumped too now against the wall of the shower. He was bent over and washing his legs, kneading the occasional sore muscle. His legs were tired. His whole body felt tired, actually, and he very faintly remembers leaving the party with Jaehyo.

Kyung wasn't sure how many shots they each had by the time they left the party. Jaehyo was clinging to his arm, whispering incomprehensible things into his ear as they made their way to the train station. It was a fairly long walk and they spent most of it stumbling around, laughing and sharing jokes about what they saw on their walk. The other apparently had work the next day, and therefor had to take the train home now. But Kyung didn't want to let him go yet. Kyung wanted to know why he looked at people with such interest, and how a kite shadowed in darkness caught his eye at night.

And so he went with him, saying it was only because of how drunk he was, that he wanted to make sure he was okay. He knew Jaehyo didn't believe him, giving him a quizzical look when he had said the excuse. But there was no objection. Kyung felt that whatever doubts he had about Jaehyo's uality were soon to be proven, and they were.

Alone in a train car, the reflective surfaces of the car occupying their minds for a moment, there was a stillness between them. It was a quiet moment full of their breathing and the spinning movements of everything around them. Kyung was drunk, but Jaehyo was even more gone, and he didn't hesitate in kissing Kyung's cheek. His lips lingered there, the small 'o' of his mouth gently and moving downwards.

The soap was running downwards into the drain. Kyung was done, stepping out of the shower and wrapping the nearest towel around his waist. His feet carried him into the bedroom, where a pair of doe eyes were watching him.

“You showered without me.” Jaehyo protested, a small smile growing on his face. Kyung laughed, shaking some of the water out of his hair. Jaehyo sat up in bed, exposing his bare chest, and the other watched it rise and fall as he took a deep breath. “How do you feel?”

Kyung's eyes looked up into his. They no longer seemed so doe-like, they looked active, round. He could feel his every movement watched, every thought inside his head heard. Jaehyo was piercing. This question wasn't about their hangover, or even last night. It was about how Kyung felt in this moment at his apartment joking with him. Kyung grinned, softening the piercing looking, rounding out the fixed gaze.

“Happy.”
