[ tut ] Motion Blur Animation
g a l a x i s [ portfolio ]
Hey, guys! I'm going to be showing you all how to make one of the easiest animations ever. It involves simple steps and isn't complex at all. I use it quite often if you haven't noticed, and it's a great way to add effect to your poster. If you're intersted, continue reading! Thanks! ^^
[ 1 ] Once you're done with your poster, keep it open and open up your animation tab.
[ 1a ] You should get a strip to open up at the bottom. If you get a screen that shows green lines, there should be a button on the bottom right with 3 squares. It's placement may vary depending on what version of Photoshop you have.
[ 1b ] You should have something like this:
[ 2 ] Duplicate that frame to get five frames.
[ 2a ] To select more than one frame at once, hold ctrl or command while clicking on a different frame.
[ * ] This is where it will get kind of complicated, so I'll try my best to explain.
[ 3 ] Select your second frame as well as duplicating your photo of your person. If you have two like me, only start with one. It doesn't matter which one you start with.
[ 3a ] When you duplicate your photo, make sure to hide the one beneath the one you copied by clicking the icon with the 'eye' in front of the layer. You should have something like this:
[ 4 ] Then, it's time to add the motion blur effect / filter. Make sure to select your copied layer.
[ 4a ] Your settings should look something like this. You can, of course, have the settings to your liking.
[ 5 ] When you've blurred your photo, other frames will also be affected by it. [ a ] Go to the first frame, [ b ] uncheck the blurred layer and [ c ] check the original layer. Refer to
[ 3a ] if you're confused. [ d ] Go to your second frame and do the opposite. Uncheck the original and check the blurred. All the other layers shouldn't be blurred anymore.
[ 6 ] Repeat everything for the second image if you have one. If you don't, you're good to continue on.
[ 7 ] You may notice a number beneath the icons of your frames. That number represents how fast or slow you want your animation to be. Mine is currently set at 40 seconds. That means that each frame will take 40 seconds to play. That's not particularly good. For this animation, I prefer anything from .08 - .20. Select all your frames and change the time.
[ 7a ] To select all of your frames easily: start from the first frame, go to your last one and press shift while you click on your last frame.
[ 7b ] If you want to use a different time then the preset ones, just click 'other' and type in the time that you want.
[ 8 ] You see that tab beneath the first frame that says 'Once?' Unless you want your animation to only play once, you can keep it there. If you want it to play continuously, click on the tab and you should have a little screen of three choices. Select 'Forever.'
[ 9 ] Now, we're ready to save! Go to File > Save for Web Devices. This may be hidden under a different tab in File depending on what version of Photoshop you're using.
[ 9a ] This is what your settings should be like:
[ 9b ] Most of these things don't matter but what matters the most are the things that say: Selective & Pattern. I beg of you, do not choose anything else that are not these two. These selections give you the best results and does not distort your poster as much. Many people use other selections that ruin their quality and makes the poster look so not attractive and kind of ruins it. Sometimes, imo, the settings I have will enhance the poster and kind of throw everything together. Here are some examples of other settings that you don't want to use:
This is Selective and Noise. It ruins the poster by ruining the colors and quality. Do not use this especially on bright posters. If you have a poster that is dark, it should be fine whatsoever. Even so, I wouldn't suggest this whatsoever. Keep it quality.
Anways, press save and that's all! Hopefully it was easy to follow. Let me know if you're confused about anything! ^^
