The faint chirps of birds off in the distance, the sun brightly shinning down from the cloud painted sky, a gentle smile danced upon your face admiring how palliative the weather had been, you happily sauntered to the small but sufficient garden in the backyard of your shared quaint little home.

Vibrant red tomatoes stood out from the array of green plants and assorted colors of freshly grown vegetables and fruits, a sun hat resting on your head to prevent the light from blinding your vision. Hands adorned with gardening gloves, gardening tools at ready.

Cheerful sounds of children playing around with one another over the sounds of honking cars or the gentle screeching of brakes halting the car to a stop at the bidding of a red light, the awaiting vegetables and fruits sat patiently ready to be picked and transformed into an ingredient of a breathtaking meal or a sweet treat.

A mahogany woven basket just centimeters off to the side of you, one by one with the hum of an amusing tune, vegetables and fruits were picked from their original homes and were placed with cordial care into the basket. Minutes soon raced by in the blink of an eye.

Back into the comforts of your home, you stood in the kitchen preparing a small supper for your boyfriend Do Kyungsoo as you awaited his arrival from a tiring day at work as usual, the relationship between you was a special and wonderful thing, as the two of you both agreed that your relationship was unparalleled in your point of view.

The familiar chopping sound of a stainless steel knife colliding against a washed fruit on the worn out wood of the cutting board laying against the cold marbled island countertop bounced off the small walls decorated with windows or a few pictures here and there, the need necessity of a calendar and clock added into the mix of hanging ornaments.

You were so caught up in your mesmerizing culinary skills you obtained from your boyfriend himself, you hadn’t heard the clicking of a lock being freed from it’s singular task or the creaking of the metal door hinge that obviously needed some Lithium grease.

The soothing humming from earlier returning to your vocal chords, the swishing of a metal utensil against a plastic bowl filled with a light yellow mixture– you were making a shortcake again.

Kyungsoo, on the other hand silently sauntered into the kitchen after getting the hint that you were in the kitchen off in your own world from you not greeting him when he came inside, watching as you, with a foot tap inducing tune, prepared a light supper. It put a smile on his face watching as his beloved wholeheartedly made a dish without him present–– without him beside you.

“Jagi,” he finally spoke up, easily grabbing your attention, the smile that nipply rushed to your lips made him chuckle, you abandoned your station and buoyantly gave Kyungsoo a kiss on the lips, “welcome home, you surprised me.” Your reply rewarded you with a peck on the forehead and a warm hug, along with the dotty response he gave you.

“Surprise.”
