We're such a Cliché

We’re such a Cliché

High school was by far Jin’s most hated place. He never really got along with the other kids at school and he couldn’t really find a clique that appealed to him, or one that would really let him join. Sure he had a couple of friends, he wasn’t a complete loner. His best friend Hoseok was a part of the dance club at school and tried to get Jin to join but even he knew he looked like a deer fresh out of the womb when trying to dance, so he mostly sat at the side lines being a good supportive friend. Jin however did have one thing he liked to do, Jin loved to draw. He loved it so much in fact that when his biology teacher passed back his test that read, “Nice doodles but you failed,” Jin was not surprised. Jin was just not understanding what they were learning but he didn’t want to be rude and just sleep all day in class so he drew, he drew flowers and monsters and everything he saw.

He even drew a picture of Kim Namjoon, the schools most popular junior. Everyone loved him for his good looks, and the fact that he was the schools Lacrosse captain. Namjoon had lead the school to the championships and put them back on the records after the past years had nearly made them less than memorable, but Namjoon had made them something great. He was almost revered as a school hero at this point. Mark however did not admire him for these reasons instead he admired because Namjoon was extremely kind. While most of the jocks on the school Lacrosse team were , Namjoon didn’t act as if he was better than anyone else.  He was just another average student who played Lacrosse, or so Jin thought. After biology ended the teacher, Park Jinyoung called Jin to stay behind.

“Jin could I speak with you for a moment?” Mr. Park said, his smile friendly, but his tone meaning business.

Jin waited for the rest of the students to file out before walking over to stand in front of Mr. Park’s desk.

“Jin, I’ve seen that you have been distracted lately and it clearly shows in your work. You are a really good student I know it but I think you could benefit from some tutoring. I’ve spoken with one of the other students who understands the material and they said that they would be happy to tutor you on this unit.”

“But Mr. Park, I…I know I’ve been distracted but I’ll do better next time I promise.” Jin said not wanting to meet with a tutor at all. He was embarrassed to be failing a class and he did not want anyone else finding that out.

“Oh I know you will, because you will be meeting with this student. I set up the date for your first study session during your study hall so please don’t be late, this other student is very busy and even has practice later so please do not waste his time. Don’t be scared though okay? Fighting!” Mr. Park said before sending Jin on his way, handing him a piece of paper for instructions about this study session. The note read in very neat handwriting,

Meet me at the Library by the biology section, I’ll be seated in the cubby furthest from the right. I’m also wearing a black jersey if you still have difficulty finding me so just look for that.

Sighing Jin decided he did in fact have no other choice, even if he didn’t want this tutoring session, he shouldn’t standup whoever had taken time out of their apparently busy schedule to help Jin learn something. Because Jin had study hall right after Biology he headed to the library right away. Not surprisingly Jin did not know where the biology section of the library was and was even surprised that the school had one to begin with. After asking the librarian who seemed bothered by the sudden intrusion on their daily task of shhing people she pointed to where he needed to go and he hurried on to the back of the library. He was worried because there were a couple of people there already but he followed the direction and perked up when he saw a black jersey sleeve sticking out. Walking over Jin took a seat and said Hi, but choked when he saw that it was Namjoon. What was he doing here?

“Hey Jin, you made it just in time. Mr. Park was saying that you needed help on Unit four, about the stages of Mitosis?” Namjoon said pushing his black glasses up his nose before smiling at Jin. His smile is perfect, Jin thought before sitting down nodding his head.

“Uh yea, I just can’t remember what goes first, second and you know the whole order of it all.” Jin confessed, still staring at Namjoon wondering if this was some kind of cruel prank from the earth.

“Yea that’s okay a lot of students have trouble with this part but I’ll show you the way I learned it and maybe it won’t be so hard.” Namjoon said opening up his notebook. While Namjoon tried to teach Jin the material he couldn’t help but watch the other boy. Here his crush was sitting right in front of him, talking to him about Mitosis and Jin just couldn’t help but blush.

“So do you get it? I know it’s a little tough but I’m sure with some practice you’ll understand.” Namjoon said, running his fingers through his black hair.

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t really paying attention I get distracted really easily and…yea I must be wasting your time,” Jin said getting up quickly, nearly knocking his chair over earning a hateful glare from the librarian which Jin ignored before he continued to nervously ramble, “and you have lacrosse practice and here I am staring at you and.” Wait did he just say that out loud, god he was such an idiot. Here he was wasting the time of someone who could of actually taught him something if he didn’t have a stupid ridiculously large crush on the boy who just so happened to be smiling at him.

“I noticed,” Namjoon said grabbing Jin’s hand before lacing his fingers with it, pulling Jin back down to the tight chubby. “But I don’t mind, you know you’re really cute when you’re flustered like that.” Namjoon said smiling again, his dimples just there to torture Jin.

“I…I am?” Jin asked confused, even more cautions that this was a prank. Had Jin hurt and puppies in his past life, was he about to be tormented?

“Yea, you know I didn’t notice how nice I looked until I saw the way you drew me.”

Looking up shocked, Jin just stared confused before saying how?

“I help grade all the papers for Mr. Park for extracurricular activities. You turned in a photo you drew of me by mistake instead of your homework once. I guess Mr. Park didn’t tell you about it because I kept it.” Namjoon confessed, even going so far as to pull the picture that Jin didn’t even know went missing.

“I…I like you?” Jin said, or confessed really. There was literally no denying it at this point and he wouldn’t have even wanted to because before he knew it Namjoon leaned over the small table and placed a soft kiss on Jin’s lips.

“Well that’s great, this would be completely awkward if you didn’t like me back. Also I’m going to ask you to go to one of my games and I’m hoping you’ll say yes.” Namjoon said bringing their jointed fists up to his mouth to place a soft kiss there on each of Jin’s knuckles.

“This…We’re such a cliché.” Jin said smiling but agreeing anyway. It was safe to say that Jin did not in fact learn about Mitosis that day, but he did learn about a hundred new ways to piss off the school librarian while sharing kisses with Namjoon, and if they got banned from the library well he didn’t care, it was totally worth learning about the biology of one.
