sometimes it's nice to relax a little
Jisoo lets out a yawn, taking off his glasses to rub his eyes. He collapses from his chair onto the bed, almost crushing Nayeon underneath.
"Hey, watch it!" Nayeon warns, wiggling out from underneath, rumpling the covers in the process.
"I'm so...tired..." he complains, throwing a disdainful look at the biology textbook on her desk. They had been studying in her room for the past three hours, creating a review guide and doing practice questions until their brains were fried. "I think we need a break," he declares, as his eyes slowly move toward his guitar in the corner of the room.
Nayeon follows his gaze in amusement. A pause. Then a good-natured smile. "Why not?" she agrees, sitting up on the edge of her bed, patting the spot beside her.
"Hmm," he murmurs as he tunes the guitar while Nayeon helpfully massages his shoulders (she's good at giving massages, he says). "What shall we sing today?"
She shrugs, closing her eyes. "Surprise me."
So Jisoo starts out with an acoustic rendition of "Sunday Morning," then smoothly transitions to a more somber and heartfelt "Breakeven" by the Script. Nayeon nods along with the soft strumming of his guitar and the crooning of his voice, even harmonizing with him sometimes.
Eventually though, she finds herself dozing off, and in her daze, she can sort of hear his light chuckle in the background. The playing still continues and he sings softer now, as if purposely trying to lull her to sleep.
When she wakes up after who knows how long, the playing has stopped. She lazily opens one eye to discover that she had been leaning on his shoulder the entire time, his chin somehow propped on the top of her head. She straightens up, yawning but suddenly very awake, a sheepish look on her face.
"What," she deadpans when he starts laughing.
"You were drooling," he remarks, amused.
Nayeon is unfazed. "So what? People drool all the time when they sleep," she retorts, sticking her tongue out at him and kicking the bed comforter up to cover herself so she can continue on with her nap. Screw studying, seriously, especially if she has to stare at that smug face.
"Yeah, I know," Jisoo grins. "It's just that it's particularly funny when it's you."
She glares at him, then turns her back on him, hugging the covers close to her body until she's enveloped like a burrito. The last thing she remembers before drifting off into her nap is the melodic strumming of the guitar accompanying his quiet hums, the breeze rippling through her curtains.
When she finally wakes up again, he is nowhere to be seen, save for a scrawled note on her biology notebook: Finished the study guide for us while you were sleeping! Rest well, Nayeonnie.
She crinkles her nose at his nickname for her, but she smiles, knowing that it probably made him cringe just as much when he wrote it. "Thanks," she murmurs to the empty air, hugging her pillow to her chest, an uncomfortable fluttering feeling rising up within her.
She hates it, but she can't say that she hates it enough.
